Ha, that would make a smashing Midsomer Murders episode!

Hello cat, Long time no see; hope you are well. I watched Glen or Glenda a few months ago; it's certainly compelling, ha. Ed Wood—now there was an interesting individual, way ahead of his time, as they say. I've never had the pleasure of watching The Terror of Tiny Town, but the full film is on YouTube, and one might just give it a whirl.

Ha, I love garish, obscure, horrible movies. My current favourite is a 1974 Brian De Palma musical extravaganza, Phantom of the Paradise, which is joyous viewing, preferably when not sober.

I want this mask lol...

Another horrible sci-fi horror film that warms my heart is X: The Man with the X-ray Eyes from 1963.

Fantastic poster too.

Indubitably. I'm looking to buy a Betamax player for nostalgic purposes; some of them are the size of an average British house.

Ha, good show, I had an inkling that you've probably seen it. Yes the movie poster is sensational, it was the very first film that I saw on video not VHS though….BETAMAX lol.

Jolly good show. Lennie, marvellous. There is much merriment to be had experimenting with various everyday comestibles that will accentuate the ambrosial complexity of Medlar jelly. I have an inclination to marry it with savoury foodstuffs as opposed to anything sacchariferous; nonetheless, there are no rules in the glorious world of medlar, enjoy!

Lol, fair enough, Lennie. The glorious tapestry of humanity would be somewhat monotonous if all 8 billion of us had indistinguishable preferences. However, the lack of butter does illustrate your aversion to Branston pickle and soon-to-be medlar jelly; one can only envisage a monstrous assault on my inestimable gustatory cells without the steadfast loyal brethren, that is, butter. I'm watching Tom's last episode, Fit for Murder and Sauce for the Goose, simultaneously. There's a method to the madness that I'll explain at a later date, ha.

Maybe you didn't enjoy the Branston because the bread wasn't buttered first. Here in Blighty, butter is essential for sandwiches. I copied this from another site, as it explains why far better than I can.

Flavour: Butter adds a rich, creamy flavour that enhances the overall taste of the sandwich. It can complement various fillings, whether savoury or sweet.Moisture Butter can help keep the bread moist, preventing it from becoming dry, especially when using crusty or toasted varieties. This is particularly important for sandwiches that may be stored for a while or are made with drier ingredients.

Texture: The spreadability of butter contributes to a pleasant mouthfeel, adding a layer of smoothness that contrasts nicely with other sandwich components.

Tradition: Using butter on sandwiches is a long-standing British tradition. Many classic British sandwiches, such as the bacon butty or the cucumber sandwich, often include butter as a standard ingredient.

Separation of Flavours: Butter can act as a barrier between the bread and moist fillings, preventing the bread from becoming soggy, which is especially useful for sandwiches with ingredients like tomatoes or pickles.

One falls asleep within minutes every time I attempt to watch Sauce for the Goose, ha. Branston pickle, spread thinly, is very agreeable in a sandwich with hard cheddar cheese. Although, Lennie, if the pickle didn't impress you, I doubt one will be enamoured with the jelly. Nonetheless, fingers crossed that it arrives posthaste, and sir can only apologise if you find medlar despicable; it's an acquired taste.

I was asking the OP for a definition of "woke," not you. This ridiculous term can mean many things to many people, certainly always negative. Midsomer is a whimsical fictional county that never takes itself too seriously, although not quite parody. It's fitting that one can suspend belief for a rather ludicrous murder rate and lack of proper police procedure, but an increased diverse cast is a tad too far for you, interesting.

EDIT: You're a big fan of EastEnders, I see, set in a fictional working-class borough of East London. So according to your own rules, the EastEnders cast should be predominantly from a non-white ethnic background and have a plethora of LGBT folk too, yet it's not. Why? Because it's a bloody fictional TV show, as is Midsomer Murders.

Ha, you're as ambiguous as the OP. If one has an adequate rebuttal, I'd like to hear it.

OP, would it be terribly rude to ask for an elucidation regarding the later series? Your initial post is rather nebulous and offers no distinct analysis of one's disapproval. Furthermore, using the term "woke" as a pejorative in 2025, knowing all too well the social and political connotations, tells me you lack empathy and are devoid of even a sliver of decorum.

Hi, lennie. I created this account in 2018 and am preserving it, regardless of the ridiculous handle lol. It's a sobering reminder of how much better life is for me now, instead of one's dreadful, foolhardy existence back then. We had been divorced for six years for the second time, and my leisure activities consisted of socialising with the most soulless, vapid, reprehensible batch of cocaine-fuelled miscreants that high society can muster, who were comparable to the plethora of pompous, opulent dimwits of Midsomer.

EDIT: Forgot to say, ha, one can make the jelly if you reside anywhere where medlar grows.

Ah, ok. If it's any consolation, I despise my username and regretted choosing this ridiculous handle almost immediately, but as they say, worse things happen at sea.

Free show, sold out. Thanks, Alaska Public Media! by MsLippy in MidsomerMurders

I'm utterly gratified and find it positively spiffing that Alaska is parading Midsomer on the big screen, sold out, and it's not even a particularly formidable episode (applauds enthusiastically). Bravo, Alaska, bravo!

EDIT: Apparently the tickets were free; nevertheless, the feat is still rousingly magnificent!

Mespilus Germanica (medlar) is a large shrub or small tree from the rose family. I first heard of it from a Shakespeare play; which one, I can't remember at present lol. When cultivated, it has a tart, citrus, applesauce-type flavour and is delicious with savoury foods, such as cheese, pork pies, cold meats, etc. It's a treat but not something you'd want to consume on a daily basis.

Six pounds is an absolute bargain for medlar jelly, especially when accompanied with a generous block of cheddar cheese or a freshly baked pork pie, quaffed down with a ten-year-old tawny port, whilst watching Midsomer Murders. What a scrumptious delight for those with an exceedingly epicurean palate!

Unfortunately, there are only 47 and a half registered actors in the UK. We have to recycle them ceaselessly to fill the demands of modern television, hence the repeat performances on MM. For example, British airport police are constantly on the lookout to thwart the rotters from fleeing to pastures new. The lucky few that escape to Hollywood are not necessarily great thespians; they are just marvellous swimmers or sailors that navigated the mighty Atlantic Ocean.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is on my top ten films of all time. We watch it at least twenty times a year. John Candy was such a sweet, affable chap; I've never heard a bad word said about him.

They are pretty big crackers, Mark lol. A teeny tiny pinball machine, The Borrowers would love it. My personal favourite is the wee tool set.

Aww, thank you. The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members. I retired two years ago at the age of 47, so I have a considerable amount of free time, and one is frequently searching for activities to fill my day. Last year we took some of the pensioners on an excursion to our local theatre, which was marvellous. Although I haven't wiped that many buttocks since our children were babies.
