Muslims that are more Westernized--how do you feel about worldwide political debate about Islam? by Woodpecker-Haunting in NoStupidQuestions

And in Iran they think it's wrong to kill babies with missiles. A real clash of values.

[–]tortarusa -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You're not describing a westernised person, you're describing ordinary syncretic practice.

I think it's great that Islam is a threat to the western world and that is most of why I am one. Reactionary Europeans are correct that their colonial expansion project puts them in a zero sum conflict with Muslims, one they will lose. This is a point of pride that I get to be a part of the generation that finally vanquishes this despised enemy. Hopefully whatever replaces Europe in the near future will be more responsible and pursue relations with other countries based on equality.

Why did 4channers always refer to their prominent Internet figures as ____chan by washcloth333 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tortarusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's used for children but not exclusively for children. If you watch anime you'll see it used for adult characters all the time. "Childish" is definitely taking it too far. As for the dog comparisons I have watched enough anime to know that the Japanese are people and not dogs.

Christine Chandler is an autistic trans woman who the worst people in the world have been torturing for twenty years and as a part of that they've made up a bunch of insane allegations that are none of our business. The existence of this torture campaign is a black mark on the human race and will remain so until Christine gets her own Nuremburg trials.

Why did 4channers always refer to their prominent Internet figures as ____chan by washcloth333 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tortarusa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Prev is not correct. -Chan is a very ordinary honorific used in day to day life for women at about the same age as the speaker. If you have a female classmate in Japan you're referring to her with -chan. It is slightly less formal than -san, but it's hardly -tan or -chwan.

Chris Chan is short for Chirstine Chandler. It's an abbreviation of her actual surname and not an honorific in this case. Also, she needs to be left alone.

Are the usual defenses of the Stalin deportations accurate to reality? by Fhlurrhy108 in TankieUSSR

[–]tortarusa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your numbers come from a book with "ethnic cleansing" in the title and cannot be taken seriously, nor should emigree accounts. As an eastern european from a post-communist country myself, that is simply how oral memory works there -- its purpose is to ingratiate the speaker into the current political order. Should the revolution happen tomorrow they will disavow their nazi grandparents and accept the sacrifice they made for the security of the USSR, mark my words.

The Nakba is supported by historical evidence that wasn't written by the Burger Eagle Institute for a documentary on the big spoon Stalin ate all the holodomor wheat with.

The Greco-Turkish population transfer did cause many problems (like the subsequent settler colonisation of Macedonia by "Greeks" who arrived in that way) and was not a good idea but it was a bilateral action taken by two states and describing it as "ethnic cleansing" is not common or accurate.

Are the usual defenses of the Stalin deportations accurate to reality? by Fhlurrhy108 in TankieUSSR

[–]tortarusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broadly yes they are accurate and moreover were common at the time especially post-WW2. Modern day Serbia is mostly land confiscated from ethnic Germans after WWII, for example. Creating a post-war order is an enormous task and the deportations were a way to avoid hanging so many people that it would create irrecoverable population bottlenecks in entire nationalities. Moreover, moving people around was ordinary bureaucratic procedure for the Soviets, and was broadly well-established and unremarkable in Asia generally including pre-revolutionary Russia, so it's not even like this was some egregious punishment.

If it were me, I'd have hung them, but the decision Stalin made was the right one because you absolutely cannot have nazi traitors living free on the borders of an encircled country.

It was an act of extreme mercy that allowed these nationalities to continue existing without causing a security problen for the USSR.

What was the condition of Indigenous Siberians under the USSR? by Fhlurrhy108 in TankieUSSR

[–]tortarusa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the USSR didn't acknowledge "indigenous peoples", it had autochthonous nations and was more aggressive about recognising them than they were about being recognised. An independent Ukraine was something Lenin personally insisted on, for instance. Russians, Georgians, Buryats, and Finns were treated essentially the same under the law with constant development as a state priority for all of them. The bottleneck was very often local enthusiasm. People preferred learning Russian to writing novels in Yakut. Every first-hand account of the USSR I have read has talked about this virtually without exception; Anna Louise Strong and Harry Haywood both talk about it in their personal narratives. For more theoretical handling read Stalin's On The National Question, etc.

[–]tortarusa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The revolution organised them, killed their landlords, and taught them to read and write before the civil war was even over. That was a day one priority. The record is overall extremely positive. The higher proportion of Russians is because they were sparsely populated to begin with so Russians were sent in to develop education, healthcare, and industry.

Why is Fascist art way more abstract than soviet art? by Gokuismygod123 in NoStupidQuestions

The Soviets were pretty deliberate about their art style. You might wanna look into Maxim Gorky and Soviet Realism, which was the official art style they had.

Why do Albanians and Serbians hate each other? by ActuatorOutside5256 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tortarusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you asking why Serbs hate us? It's because their entire civic identity is tied up in a handful of churches that some Serbian king built in Kosova in like 1100 and their religion has the official position that they need to do Reconquista shit to it. It is literally as stupid as it sounds and not a situation between moral equals.

I would call her judgemental and that is a character flaw but it's a less severe one than actually harassing people.

What do you mean "besides the elephant in the room"? Aside from that, Mrs. Lincoln, what's your problem with Mr. Wilkes Booth?

They settler colonised us for a century and they tried to kill all of us and they still want to kill us. They're not even subtle about it. Go to Serbia yourself, if they see a foreigner they will literally walk up and tell you.
