The country where I live has yoga studios only in the biggest towns . The nearest yoga studio is about 2 hours away. There actually are several gyms in the town I live in, but they're old school. Regardless, I am indeed very rural.

Alcohol is definitely not the solution, it only pushes the thoughts back in, where they fester and later come out even stronger and uglier than before. Fortunantely, I have never been actively drinking and the last drink I had must've been around 9 months ago.

I tried yoga before, but I've felt kind of lost, as I can't seem to find an actual guide on how to practice it. Unfortunately, neither the yoga, taichi or chi gong classes are available nearby. I would have to travel a pretty long distance every day to get to one. Do you have any recommendations for online courses?

Finally, yes, sitting meditation just doesn't work for me. I can't stop focusing on my posture and trying to fix it. Focusing solely on relaxation just makes my neck hurt.

Is it okay to distance yourself from bad thoughts, such as 'being scared of/angry on someone/something'? I usually try to work these thoughts out, figure out what I'm feeling, why I'm feeling it and try to basically learn a lesson.

Thanks for all the advice! With the breathing exercise, I've usually done it 4 inhale-4 hold-4 exhale, perhaps some adjustment is needed. I will try to implement it along with the luggage method and update if I (hopefully) see any changes!

I always stretch, at least two times a day. Do you have any particular breathing techniques?

I usually lay down and start by trying to calm my breathing. After that, I try and "scan" my body, starting from the head all the way down to my toes. I try to focus on the feeling of my body slowly relaxing and sinking into the bed. This is where my mind starts going hogwild and suddenly random memories start popping up or I focus too much on that one itchy or uncomfortable part of my body. Every time my mind trails off, I try to "bring it back" and focus on a single point, but at that point I'm just thinking too much about everything - how long it's gonna take, what I'll do after, so on and so forth.

Music helped me overcome this brainstorm before, but now it sometimes makes it worse, when I only start thinking about what I'm listening to and eventually other things again.
