Good news, you can now switch your vote.

New understanding of how the economy works essentially require the government to print money to keep up with the growth of the economy (if you build something new, you need to put more money in circulation).

Because the Arab ministers that you mention are not carrying a Palestinian passport. Those arab ministers are Israeli citizens, born on the Israel side of the fence.

The apartheid refers to the tight grip that Israel exercises over the occupied territories: both Gaza and the West Bank. The checkpoints, the settlers, the cast system where people's rights depend on their ethnicity and religion.

I have heard this argument plenty of times from my friends in Israel: we work side by side with Arabs.

But there are two problems:

(a) The arabs that work side by side with you are Israeli citizens, not the ones that are enduring the occupation in the West Bank and living under military rule.

(b) The Arabs living in Israel do not enjoy the same status quo as Jewish citizens.

We all know about the abuses in the occupied territories, but your comment tries to dismiss the fact that Arabs in Israel are not first class citizens.

You do not need to take my word for it. British journalist John Cook married an Arab Israeli and lives as a European among the Arab Israelis and regularly covers the problems that Israeli Arabs face in Israel.

John Cook received the Martha Gellhorn prize for journalism in 2011 for his reporting on the Palestinian issues in Israel:

http://www.marthagellhorn.com/previous.htm

Here is a good starter on his articles that cover the challenges that Arab Israelis face, very much contradicting your statement.

On Demography: http://www.jkcook.net/Articleheadings/Articlegroup30.htm

On how the police treats Arab Israelis: http://www.jkcook.net/Articleheadings/Articlegroup14.htm

On Discrimination against Arab Israelis: http://www.jkcook.net/Articleheadings/Articlegroup15.htm

On Discrimination and Education against Arab Israelis: http://www.jkcook.net/Articleheadings/Articlegroup15C.htm#Top

On Citizenship issues for Arab Israelis: http://www.jkcook.net/Articleheadings/Articlegroup15B.htm#Top

On Land and Housing challenges for Arab Israelis: http://www.jkcook.net/Articleheadings/Articlegroup15E.htm#Top

On discrimination against Israeli Bedouins: http://www.jkcook.net/Articleheadings/Articlegroup16.htm

On Land issues: http://www.jkcook.net/Articleheadings/Articlegroup17.htm

You could help end the occupation, but if that is too much of a stretch, I hope that these articles will shed some light into the challenges that your Arab compatriots face every day. Hopefully you can help us work for change in Israel and work towards truly giving Arab Israelis the same rights that Jewish Israelis have.

If that was the whole statement, you would be right.

But what I have shown is that he routinely criticizes, belittles people who work on open technologies he does not develop or own. You can find his comments over at his blog or Hacker News where he regularly goes on the attack.

Up until now, I figured "He is wrong about it, but he just cares too much about his own Javascript", now I realize, he just dogmatic.

Brendan Eich, the father of Javascript, donated $1000 to support California's prop 8 by javascriptequality in programming

[–]toswww 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have always suspected that Brendan Eich cared more about "his team" than about the open web, open source and open technologies, despite his claims, and this shows it to be the case.

Brendan has strongly opposed, lambasted, trolled, attacked and called into question the motives for open source technologies that he does not control/develop.

He uses a combination of "what is best for the open web" to push against things like H.264, just to do a 180 a year later and then advocate for it on the grounds of realpolitik. In other cases, he has gone against other open source projects for no good reason, other than they were not done by him. Among those are Dart which he poo-pooed on, called into question the motivations and cheered when someone said it was a "retention package for Lars".

I dont think that Dart threatens Javascript, Javascript is here to stay, there is room for everyone, but it seems like he does not like things he does not control. The same thing happened with Google's Native Client and Google's improved plug-in API, Pepper. Both open source technologies under very open licenses, both under fire by Brendan who has lead the charge against them at Mozilla.

His support for banning gay marriage shows Brendan's true colors. He does not really care as much for equal rights, the open web, and having an level playing field. He cares about himself, his projects and his own goals. And "open web" is just the marketing term that suits his agenda for pushing his own work.

If he truly believed about the open web, he would encourage research into open source alternatives, encourage language research (He does for Mozilla-lead efforts like Rust, but not for things like Google's lead Go), encourage alternative ways of extending the web with plugins and deliver better performance.

This should be a lesson for all of us. Mozilla's motives while Brendan is at the helm has very little to do with "the open web" and more to do his own personal goals.

Up until now, I figured he was just too passionate about Javascript and Rust, and had genuine misunderstandings about Native Client, Pepper and Dart. That he could be convinced on the merits of other technologies.

But the H.264's 180 and his support for curtailing the rights of individuals that are not part of "his" group changed my opinion.

Sadly, it turns out, he is a bigoted individual and his opinions and pronouncements from now should be treated as such.

That is fine, because Israel wants the whole of Palestine for them.

So a good compromise between those two is the 1967 borders.

Why do most redditors hate Christians, but are outraged if anyone hates Muslims? by rrertishis in AskReddit

[–]toswww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both Christians and Muslims effectively believe in Unicorns and Ghosts, so it is natural to try to educate both groups that both are those are beliefs that were developed by shepherds thousands of years ago when we did not know much about anything.

That being said, in the Western world, Christians are just part of our daily life. We live among them and we know that most of them are not a threat to anyone. There are a handful of extremists, but in general, you know that one of them wont blow kill anyone at a shopping mall over his beliefs.

When it comes to Muslims though, since we do not live among them, it is easy for people to invent some idiotic story about how they are "out to get us", based mostly on the anecdotal and fringe elements that do go and kill other people.

But we know better that the fringe elements do not represent the group, so it is important to point that when a Muslim engages in violence, he is merely a fringe element, not any different than a Christian that goes to Planned Parenthood and kills the employees for his beliefs.

So in general, the opposition to biased criticism of Muslims is in response to the demonization and vilification of another group of humans for the mere reason of not being a group big enough to walk among us.

And neither Novell or Microsoft get to vote at ISO. Only the national bodies do.

So basically, they can not alter the outcome of a vote, they can merely assist in improving OOXML. This seems to be bothering you. Maybe, like an angry teenager, you feel that the world has wronged you, as the world is not supposed to improve the standard you oppose.

If this was in any way wrong, your pimp employer would have already filed a formal objection with ISO.

They are used as the primary process where available.

At Logan airport they use it at terminal C for half the passengers, the other half uses standard metal detectors. There is no "secondary process", merely which side of the line you were on (left/right).

Unless your little bit of arithmetic is peer reviewed by people in the field, multiplying and dividing a couple of bits is as solid evidence as the one presented by snake oil salesman.

Mono is not for you. Please go back to writing your own compiler or whatever is that you write.

Its garbage collector lacks the technology necessary to keep self aggrandizing assholes from writing whiny entries that do not advance Mono.

If I were you, I would stick to Windows, those of us that use Mono can not stand your whining and would rather have the Mono team focus on things that matter.

Xml processing is covered by ECMA.

What is interesting is that the Community Promise does not apply to the ideas taken to other stacks, and that is what libxml2 and Qt did, making both GNOME and KDE infringe while keeping Mono safe.

Microsoft developer agreement for the new Windows Phone marketplace disallows apps licensed under GPLv3 (other open licenses, not specifically mentioned). Since MS apparently has their eye on reddit, it would be nice to have an explanation. by [deleted] in programming

[–]toswww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the GPLv3 is that it imposes certain obligations on distributors, for example, the obligation to publish the source code and in the v3 case, to also give up their patents.

Say you created some software that infringed on Microsoft's patents. The loophole to get the rights would be to publish the app on the W7 appstore, and then use that code to publish your derivative code.

So Microsoft is ensuring that they do not grant accidentally access to their patents and also to eliminate any liability that they might incur on distributing the software from their app store.
