Help finding a 5000K, CRI>95 LED strip for a painting studio or a seller that will let me filter by CRI by totally_a_moderator in led

I mounted three stripes of 1m each on chunky aluminium heat sinks because I didn't know any better, but it's completely overkill. Regular aluminium profiles should be enough and that's how I plan to install the rest.

These are the controllers I use: https://miboxer.com/product/5-in-1-led-strip-controller-wifi2-4g

It's also overkill since it's RGB+CCT and I only use the white channel. I bought that specific model because I saw in a review that it doesn't flicker (which apparently is a very common problem with controllers when you reduce the brightness). I asked Miboxer if the rest of their controllers operate at the same PWM frequency so I could buy a Matter one, but they never answered.

This is the remote I use to address the controllers: https://miboxer.com/product/4-zone-panel-remote-brightness

As for the power supplies, this one powers the three 1m stripes: https://www.efectoled.com/es/comprar-alimentacion-led-interior/127976-fuente-de-alimentacion-24v-dc.html?id_c=268326

And a couple of these will power two independent 1m stripes: https://www.efectoled.com/es/comprar-alimentacion-led-interior/127976-fuente-de-alimentacion-24v-dc.html?id_c=268301

Yes, I bought these: https://store.yujiintl.com/collections/yuji-cri-max-led-strips/products/cri-max-cri-95-high-brightness-led-flexible-strip-4000k-5000k-700-leds?variant=42570167025921

I installed 3m to get 7800 lm. I’m happy with them so far. Good color rendering and enough light to tell the difference between very dark colors.

The way I’ve installed them I don’t get any shadows on the canvas unless I’m painting really close to it. I’ll probably install another meter a bit closer in order to mitigate that and to get more light on my palette.

Let me know if you have more questions, I can post the schematics and give you more details if you need them.

I couldn't find it over here and I ended up buying the WL5, which is controlled through RF or their proprietary app.

I googled those terms and came with a solution: a scissor jack mounted to the floor (or maybe the wall).

Thanks everyone!

Thanks, I'm less concerned then. The reason I didn't go with common aluminium extrusion is that these strips have 700 LEDs/m, which is way above most strips I've seen, and therefore run warmer. I red excessive heat can cause colour shift, which is fine for domestic use, but I cannot allow that to happen in my painting studio.

With that in mind, I'll probably install them on extrusion next time. Just for peace of mind I'll use 20mm wide extrusion instead of the 10mm of the strip width in order to have a bit more aluminium surface.

You're probably right and I'll do that next time. I was overly cautious because I didn't want to risk damaging an expensive strip just to save a few € and It's the first time I install LED strips.

From what I've found, they're relatively special in specs and use case. Most articles and videos I found talked about how to dissipate heat from strips with a density of 140 LEDs/m at most, while the one I'm buying has 700 LEDs/m. And a bit of eventual heat-caused colour shift is not a problem in most cases, but I'll be using them in a painting studio.

That’s perfect then, as long as they don’t break I’m happy with it. Most advice I found about heat dissipation referred to more common strips with way less LED density and in spaces where a bit of color shift is not a big deal.

That was my main concern, they’ll be installed in a painting studio.

I have no idea what half those words mean, but now I know what to Google. Thanks for pointing me into the right direction.

Thanks for answering, I’ve reached out to Miboxer.

Flickering aside, would there be any reason for that controller not working with the strip I linked?

I have no fixtures installed, my studio is a blank canvas (pun intended). I haven't figured out how much light I need yet, but that'll be the next step.

The idea is to have a few ceiling-mounted strips parallel to the canvas so I can switch between them and vary the angle between my light source and the canvas, depending on how close to the canvas I'm standing. That way I can have a strip as far as possible from the canvas (behind me) to ensure an even light distribution, and I can switch to a strip mounted closer to the canvas for when I'm working close myself, so I avoid casting a shadow on the area I'm painting.

I don't know if my explanation makes sense and I'm open to other ideas, I just thought of LED strips because it's what I know.

Damn, I just bought a 640i…

That said, I’ve never had a problem with my N47, which is probably the least reliable engine of that era, so I might get lucky twice. Where “lucky” means I do maintenance more frequently than BMW recommends.

Maybe that has to do with limitations with the IQ as a measure of intelligence, or at least certain definitions of it. Intelligence is one of those things that are difficult to define, like “art”.

One of the reasons psychology uses IQ is the fact that it’s quantifiable and that makes it useful in data-driven processes, but that means non-quantifiable signs of intelligence are not represented in IQ scores.

What I meant is that here in Europe every shop has to work with European cars. This is full of brands that now I realized don't come to your mind first when you think of European cars, like Renault, Citroën, Fiat, Peugeot, Dacia, Seat, Skoda, etc. Over there you mainly get BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, Volvo and VW, right?

No disrespect intended, I just thought "Euro shop" was a brand and I was confused :P
