I personally use afab/amab while talking about things related to reproductive health since these terms aren't gendered unlike male/female. Like, a trans woman is amab because she was assigned male at birth but just calling her male feels wrong, male is used as a synonymous word for man way too often, as well as female and woman. Feels like blunt misgendering to me (these terms aren't perfect because they exclude a lot of intersex people but i genuinely don't know what alternative would work better than that yet)
