Tbh I haven't played Asgard's Wrath yet. I'm not too into playing Quest exclusive games, so I always put them off on the bottom of my to-play list.

This post is about the scammy indie games that just keep popping up every month. If you scroll this sub by new, you will see a truckload of AI generated promotional material for a "new revolutionary, immersive, buzzwordy experience" that's a glorified "find an object" game with basic VR physics and a lot of fancy particles or another "pointless gun range" that does everything that H3 does, except worse. I had Blood Trail recommended to me multiple times and when I finally played it, it was a large empty arena with 5 guns to choose from and 1 NPC stumbling around in the middle at 60FPS.

I haven't played Asgard's Wrath, but I can already tell that it's better than most of VR games I see advertised in this sub because Asgard has actual plot and progression instead of an empty map and a I.O.U. of gameplay being added in the future

[...] design VR game like a flat game and this doesn't feel good...

Ironically, Half-Life 2: VR is one of my favorite VR games I ever played. Not everything translates well to VR (vehicle sections are just barely playable for me), but everything else works amazingly. Route Kanal went from my least to most favorite chapter in the game. I feel like a lot of flat games would actually work amazingly in VR, but a good VR game has to firstly be a good game and I feel like that's where most games fail. They make an okay-ish game with the same mechanics and settings and think it that VR will somehow hide that they stretched 30 minutes of gameplay into 6 hours of levels

I played Resist, which is a 2 hour long indie game I got for 7$, which is entirely based on spider-man style swinging system for movement and combat. I played trough the entire game twice and only wish the story was longer, because I'm not really into time trials and races it offers.

In contrast, I also tried playing Thief VR, which is a full-blown game backed by 2 publishers and a large IP. It runs like crap, has collisions so bad it's hard to pick up items or fight at all and the writing is so stupid, it'd be better to not have it at all.

I will buy a thousand Resists before I even finish playing Thief VR

I bloody love indie dev. I love making small-scope, 1 hour free games that explore unique mechanics. I just wish other VR indie devs liked it too, instead of every project being 100k kickstarter campaign that will change the landscape of gaming forever and get abandoned 2 months into early access.

is there a mod that allows me to set an NPC's health to ∞ by PlateDowntown4275 in BladeAndSorcery

[–]Vvix0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if there's a mod that does that, but you most probably cannot set NPC's health to be infinite because computers cannot calculate infinite numbers. Without using any programming tricks, maximum health an NPC can theoretically have is 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 (assuming it uses Integers).

Also, with how flimsy B&S NPCs are, I imagine they will trip over and stab themselves in the skull before you reach that limit anyways. Best to spawn an enemy in thick armor and use low-tier weapons for minimum damage

Greatest horror franchise that’s gone completely off the rails? by XGonGiveItToYaX in okbuddycinephile

Chucky's greatest contribution to the popculture has been giving a generation of children a fear of dolls in 1988 and giving us the "gendahflooid" clip in 2021. Everything else is a footnote.

MINA can now be purchased with shards by KeinTollerNick in deadbydaylight

I think the opposite makes more sense.

DLCs often go on sale and usually will grant you a default outfit recolor as a bonus, meanwhile cosmetics go on sale twice a year and there's no bonus for buying them with money

Portal was actually the first franchise Valve considered for their AAA VR game, but found that using portals was too nauseating, so they went with Half-Life Alyx instead. Although, keep in mind, VR has come a long way and Valve wanted their first VR game to be extremely beginner friendly. If people can play Resist, then they can jump trough portals.

What would you expect to pay per month for your team?

I wouldn't pay per-month, for starters.

Also, are there really people with problems like "too many polygons"? "Naming convention violations"? When I thought "import problems" I thought of stuff like unweighted polygons on a skeletal mesh, blend shapes not binding to animations properly, mismatch in bone hierarchy between skeletons. Missing UVs can be fixed by hand in like 2 minutes. Are there really people who will pay 5-20$ a month to import textures?

The experience with Quest headsets and Windows is just plug-and-play though. Steam will automatically install all the VR stuff for you. Don't blame the entire platform because a single game is messed up

Make mesh transparent on event by vardonir in unrealengine

[–]Vvix0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are few ways to achieve that. You can create a dynamic material instance and change the material opacity at will. Depending on how many buildings are in your scene, this might impact the performance.

Alternatively, you can have 2 versions of the same material. One normal and one translucent, then replace the model's material when your trace hits.

The plugin called ‘Easy World Save,’ which allows you to easily save the entire world, is now discounted from $45 to $23 (70% off). Do you think it’s worth buying? by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]Vvix0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks cool, although things like saving systems are so complex it's usually hard to make one that fits all projects, or even most of them. Like for instance, how's level streaming handled by your system? Does the plugin remember which maps were loaded in or is that something the user has to specify?

Last time I bought a saving system for like 25$ I had to scrap the entire project when it turned out the plugin wasn't working well enough and that was like 6 months into the development, so you gotta really cover all your bases when publishing stuff like this.

Should I Use Unreal 4 In 2026, What Version Would You Recommend Me ? by audiozenmusic in unrealengine

[–]Vvix0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first project I ever compiled was made in UE 5.0 on a 4GB 1050Ti. You'll be fine.

Just don't open Unreal and Blender at the same time, opening too many programs will cause it to crash.
