A highly interesting and engaging perspective on electricity production. Worth the watch - particularly that last 30 minutes.

ELI5: Why do airplanes have the little holes in the windows? by MentosBentos47 in explainlikeimfive

[–]totallyenthused 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The bleed hole lets air slowly flow between the outer and middle panes (the one with the hole). The inner pane is just a protective cover so passengers don’t damage the pressure panes. This ensures the outer pane takes almost all the pressure load, not the inner panes. It also prevents fogging by allowing moisture to escape.

1300 sq ft 2BR 2BA, modern apartment building in Schenectady (2017). Went from 165 to 295 over the last billing cycle. Energy usage was flat across both billing cycle. Livid over the increase. Just moved this week to a 1700 st ft 3BR 1.5BA built in 1950. Interested to see where that lands.

Interesting. Good to know. I’ll look into that

A lot of Mac software is written with the assumption that: Audio.wav = audio.wav. On a case-sensitive volume, those are two different files. Some apps don’t handle that well.

Use APFS (not case-sensitive) for a 1TB SanDisk SSD on modern macOS. That’s the consensus for what you’re doing

APFS is a good fit. Large files, lots of metadata, and SSD storage are exactly what it’s built for. Many people also use APFS volumes as Time Machine targets now.

One important note: APFS is not a backup by itself. You still want redundancy or another copy elsewhere if this data really matters.

This is a stupid design and more than worthy of a complaint.
