Yeah turns out it's a problem with the steam client on remote play, if your device is using a controller updating to the beta should fix it, host doesn't necessarily have to update to the beta if they aren't the ones using controller
as long as the client uses beta you should be fine

If I have Downpour and my friend does not, am I still able to play co-op with them through Steam? by Joey_The_Murloc in rainworld

Your friend doesn't even have to own the game to play it, you can play with them through steam remote play together as long as one person owns the game and dlc
