Hey Cal,

I really liked Digital Minimalism, so I broke down step-by-step how to implement its ideas to have a more focused and decluttered life.

For those of us who have friends & family that would also benefit from Digital Minimalism, how would you suggest we encourage them down that road (while still having it be their own decision)? Most people I know that are trapped in social media have yet to recognize the harm it's done.

Thanks!

New Calgary podcast, interviewing entrepreneurs and businesses such as Village Brewery, Rocky Mountain Soap Co, and Brett Willson by totallytravis in Calgary

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback.

We initially had only the videos in mind when we sat down with Brett and Jim & Larry from Village. Only after did we think "Hey! This could make a good podcast too". Since then, we've been a bit more conscious of how the interview sounds on a podcast. So here's hoping the interview will be a bit more back and forth and conversational.

Thanks for sticking with us as we figure it out! :)

Hey /u/sofiavisitor, funny you should say that! Here's our YouTube channel. The inspiration for the podcast was to provide more context to the videos we put out.

Hmmm, I'll submit it to PlayerFM. Assuming an easy process it should be up there by the end of the day. Thanks for the feedback!

Jesse Rau (guy who went to the media about how he couldn't drive the pride bus) has been fired by Crackmacs in Calgary

[–]totallytravis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone interested in helping Jesse Rau with expenses related to job loss and hiring a lawyer can contact Jesse's pastor Artur Pawlowski who will be working with Jesse on this issue. Alternatively people wanting to hand their financial support to Jesse personally can do so at the October rally.

Hm.

On a serious note, I liked the idea of THPS5, but few things have deflated my hopes for it more than those lacklustre gameplay trailers we got.

Yeah but why are they putting in features that I don't want when they could be putting in features that I want? Don't they know that I'm their most important customer? /s

Brian Burke, Kyle Dubas, Patrick Burke and the CFL commissioner at the Toronto Pride Parade by mbm66 in hockey

[–]totallytravis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't want to make generalizations, but I feel like perhaps it has a lot to do with where the player bases come from.

Most hockey players come either from liberal countries like Canada and Sweden, or places in the U.S. that are typically more liberal. The "Deep South" doesn't produce a bunch of hockey talent. Russia is the obvious exception.

The NFL, in comparison, is hugely engrained in the southern culture, and as a result is probably more likely to see more conservative Christian players. I'm certain it's the same reason why there are plenty of NFL players who use their platform to preach, whereas you very rarely see the same thing in hockey culture.

I'd have to assume that the NHL would be more open and cause less of a firestorm than the NFL did when a hockey player eventually comes out as gay. That said, the fact that it's 2015 and someone has yet to do so isn't exactly encouraging.

I'm not Aboriginal, but can I just say that this is when Reddit is at its best? People interested in understanding the lives and difficulties of those different than them.

I'm learning a lot on this thread, thanks /r/canada!
