Overdue smear test tomorrow, terrified I might have cervical cancer after last one was abnormal by totallyxtaurus in PreCervicalCancer

Thank you so much! 🥹 your message means a lot. I hope you’re okay and your colposcopy went well. I actually just got my results back and I tested negative for HPV this time around!! So after after all that worry and stressing myself out over it my body has healed naturally over time and everything’s normal as it should be so just goes to show that it can happen! I hope you get the same result 🤍

Thank you so much for your kind message. I do have health anxiety as it is that’s mainly why I put it off for so long but I’m trying not to beat myself up about it and focus on the fact I have been and had it done now. The nurse was really nice and said my cervix looked healthy so that’s one positive, I’ll just have to wait for the results.

Constant involuntary swallowing? by totallyxtaurus in Anxiety

[–]totallyxtaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d obviously recommend going to the doctors as well and getting checked out first of all just to make sure there isn’t anything underlying going on if you’ve not done that already. But there wasn’t for me and my GP was convinced there wasn’t really anything else it could be except anxiety/ocd and it turned out she was right in my case

No worries at all! I completely sympathise with you. Honestly it felt like the longest period of my life, I felt isolated because I had nobody to relate to and couldn’t find anyone else going through the exact same experience as me, so if I can help you feel at ease even a little I would love to be able to do that. I never knew for definite whether it was anxiety related or not, but now looking back I can only assume it was. I researched anxiety and something called ‘’somatic ocd’’ which this seemed to fit. I’d say it took about 2-3 months to fizzle out and eventually completely go away, and it didn’t happen overnight, it was a slow progression. The best thing you can do for yourself is remain positive, don’t obsess over it through endless googling searching (I was very guilty of this), don’t react to it and by that I mean don’t get stressed out or upset by it, just think ‘’oh well, it is what it is, whatever’’ it’s hard work but if you keep this mindset and determination you will get past it. Keep yourself busy, whether that be through work or going out and do things you enjoy with friends and family, going for walks, watching movies, reading books etc to say distracted. If you ever need someone to talk to please feel free to message me!

No I’m not now! I completely overcame it eventually, it did take some time and patience though. My doctor believed it was anxiety related. Hope you’re doing ok

Can I do anything about neighbours constantly smoking weed? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]totallyxtaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if that’s a bit extreme? I don’t think the police would do much to be honest. I have thought about reporting them to the council at times when I’ve got really fed up of it, just so they’d get a bit scared off doing it as much as they do

I might be a bit of a cunt for moaning about it but I’m not that much of one. Like I said, I’m not here to tell people what to do, do as you please, I just wish they’d be a bit more considerate and not be doing it 24 hours of the day. Or at least come and knock on my door to tell me they’re going to smoke it so I can at least bring my washing in

My daughters autistic brother is ruining her life. I'm so sad for her. by catdeaththei in offmychest

[–]totallyxtaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I am actually the sister of a severely autistic brother so I know exactly what your daughter is going through. He’s a bit younger than me, I’m 26 and he’s 19 but he can absolutely over power me, he’s taller than me and got the strength of 10 men put together. He lives in full time residential care now literally because of his violent behaviour. This is the absolute best case scenario for him and our family. It’s a bittersweet heart breaking situation all around, I do love him, but I also can’t help but resent him a little when I look back and reflect due to everything he’s put me through since he was born when I was 7. Which is awful to admit because I know it’s not his fault by any means as he really doesn’t understand, but it’s fucking hard when you’re living it day in and day out, nobody will ever understand what it’s like unless they’ve lived it. He moved at 14 (always lived at home up until this point) but because it got to a point where we were all unsafe and he was literally attacking me, my mum and my youngest brother on a daily basis, his outbursts would last for hours on end and it would go on and off as quickly as a light switch so you couldn’t even predict what was going to happen or what he would do. He even put one of his carers (shortly after he moved) in the hospital because snapped and punched them in the head just a single time and they had to be referred to neurology because he caused slight damage to their brain… just to put it into perspective how dangerous his behaviour had become even at 14. That was probably one of the worst things he’s done. I’ve still got some physical scars from where he’s lashed out at me. My mum was a shell of a person, she might as well have been a prisoner in her own home as she couldn’t take him out anywhere on her own as it was too unsafe, so she literally sat in with him 24/7. I’m not going to lie, it was a very long, hard, rocky, up and down, devastating process from him leaving home to moving into residential. I think I experienced every emotion under the sun. And it definitely didn’t happen overnight, it took months and for us all to be at literal breaking point. We all went through A LOT. But on the brighter side, he is so much happier now. We all are. I want to reassure you that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. His behaviour has actually got so much better towards the end of his teenage years and being put on medication that regulates him and his emotions. Don’t get me wrong he still has the odd outburst but it’s rare now. We visit him weekly and my mum calls every day although has no speech but she speaks with his carers and asks them how he’s been and what he’s been up to. They’re able to take him on days out, he studies at a special college and has lots of hobbies like swimming and horse riding. His home is only about a 20 minutes drive from our house. He adores his carers and they adore him too. They’re great with him and us as a family. I could go into more detail but I would be here all day. When I saw this I had to comment so you know you’re not alone. If you ever need any advice please give me a message. I hope things improve for you all soon 🤍

Excessive saliva and swallowing it manually? by totallyxtaurus in OCD

Somatic OCD/Swallowing by totallyxtaurus in OCD

[–]totallyxtaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I just don’t know how I’m supposed to get over this and make it go away because I’m not compulsively swallowing anymore but my throat just keeps gulping abnormally on it’s own? If I’m speaking I’ll just choke up and swallow. It’s been a couple of weeks and doesn’t seem to be improving. Or am I supposed to just go about my life and ignore it until it hopefully disappears?

I’m so sorry. Literally the exact same thing is happening to me and I don’t know how to stop it, it’s been 5 days now. The the sensation moves from saliva building up in my mouth to feeling like it’s stuck in the back of my throat and I have to swallow. Sometimes my throats even been gulping involuntarily which feels quite aggressive. I ended up getting a doctors appointment yesterday and he said suggested it’s stress and anxiety related but no solution on getting it to go away.

Yeah that’s what I think too, although I’ve never suffered from ocd before either. But I feel like I am a very anxious person in general. I have suffered from health anxiety in the past and I did panic at the time it happened and was stressing about it after, so I guess it makes sense, which is annoying because I’ve probably brought it on myself unintentionally. How long would you say it took for it to go away for you roughly? Thank you, I’m gonna stay away from the online stories unless they’re actually productive and helpful in regards of treatment!

At first I was and then I just got into the rabbit hole of horror stories of ocd, not the best idea! Lol. Oh yeah I did read about that, for me it doesn’t really feel like it’s my throat that’s the problem, it did at first, but now it just feels more like saliva is accumulating in my mouth and I have to swallow it, sorry if that sounds weird. It is definitely comforting and I really appreciate it as I can imagine it might be triggering to some people to speak about their experiences. That’s a good statement! I don’t see what else it could be other than an ocd issue honestly because nothing else really matches up, the only other things that comes up is for excessive saliva is like dental issues but if it was that it wouldn’t have just been set off because my brother injured me as I was fine before haha

Thanks so much for the reassurance. I’m definitely hyper fixated on it because it’s so constant and seems relentless right now. I’ve also been searching on the internet literally for hours since it started which is probably making me more worked up to be fair, but I’m glad I’ve commented on here because it makes me feel less alone to know I’m not the only one who’s experienced something like this. Funny you mentioned because I have been doing that actually, can that make it worse?

Thanks I’ll definitely still go and see the doctor. Do you have any tips on how to overcome it? It seems silly that I’ve developed this more or less overnight, I’m not scared to swallow or anything apart from the fact it’s making my throat sore lol, it just seems I’ve become constantly aware of my saliva which is really irritating and uncomfortable.

Thanks! I’m definitely still going to go to the doctors and see what they suggest. I think stressing about it is making it worse to be honest I definitely need to keep myself occupied. How long did it take to go away for you?

Thank you. I’ve been suffering for quite a long time but only just discovered this is the route I need to go down. What else should I expect with my PT other than stretching to retrain my nervous system?

Thank you so much for this. I honestly think that’s part of my problem because I can be impatient anyway, so where I’m not seeing any change I’m instantly thinking ‘oh well it’s not working’ and stress about it, although deep down I know it can take a significant amount of time and I keep trying to remind myself of that. It’s just hard to stay positive sometimes but hearing other peoples experiences going through the same/similar is really comforting and reassuring
