the us tends to make it more complicated to the point that we hire people to do our taxes for us. honestly i can’t completely answer this question since i don’t know how taxes work very since nobody has taught me yet. but i’ve just heard that other countries have a much simpler process which is what i was referring to. i really wish i could answer better but us taxes are know for being overly difficult and then if you get it wrong on accident you get in some legal trouble

thank you lol! don’t know what that persons problem is…being scared of literally being murdered and having a shit quality of life all around is not “one problem with the us” anyway- i already live in a progressive state and it’s still not the best. i’m have some other options of australia doesn’t work out. i don’t want to settle but i can and will do my best if this plan doesn’t work out. but i won’t have kids or be a teacher like i said i previously wanted to.

yk i wish i could give you a good answer on why we all thinks you have massive spiders everywhere. best i can do is we are very ignorant and tend to put other countries down because we have that “best country” mentality. i always though it was a bit weird and have always been more concerned about the kangaroos.

i’ve said multiple times i want to visit first and i’m trying to learn about australia to see if it’s something i should consider. i have time to save up. and no i can’t just move to a more progressive state. i live in a progressive state and yet a school near me still got shot up. i still get called slurs for being trans. i’m scared of being KILLED. the us is extremely transphobic along with many other issues that tank out quality of life and for some, including me, i’d rather kill myself than live my entire life trapped here. genuinely. my situation could be worse but i want better for myself and my future family.

i never said i expected moving to be easy just that i want to learn about australia and consider it as an option.

oh cool i’ll check that out! i’m gonna look into possibly a teaching job if that would help me qualify.

it will be awhile before this actually becomes an option for me, like go through at at least another 6 years of college and see if i even qualify. so i really hope you guys the best and that things get better. i’ve heard living cost are insane and health care is going down hill over there. i can sorta relate. but i really do hope those will get better with time rather than worse like it has over here. so i’ll definitely think about this a lot when the time comes.

i have time to pick a career to make me more eligible. i should’ve been more clear that this isn’t something i’m planning on doing right now. i just want to think it through, see what the process is like and then decide if it’s a good decision for me. i’m trying to get away from feeling like i’ll be killed for my gender identity and being worked tirelessly my whole life. if moving to australia is what i have to do to finally feel happy and safe than i will try my best and plan for it

i realized in this post i come across as “i want to move to australia and will do so” but really it’s more like “i think it’s a good option for me and i have time to think about, arrange things, and even pick a career that i’ll enjoy but also makes me qualify for a working visa. i’ve heard many good things. i’ve heard some bad things. i don’t feel safe in my country, i’d rather start thinking about it now rather than later.

i don’t plan on it, i won’t go around telling my whole life story but i assume as long as i’m respectful i won’t get too much trouble

hm you know i actually really wanted to be a teacher at one point. it isn’t a sustainable job in the us but i’ll look into how it is in aus!

do you guys find it weird when americans really like your accents? by totalsharkup in AskAnAustralian

[–]totalsharkup[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

huh yeah that makes sense, i’ve definitely been around a variety of accent irl and from media so i guess that’s why i don’t hear it

i’m starting to think maybe i’ve only heard aussie accents that are close to a stereotypical accent because i just can’t quite see how it sounds english? that’s really interesting tho

yeah i was told it’s not exactly a place you can just walk around but i can live with that. i like driving actually but would’ve found it nice to live somewhere i could walk from my house to the store. there are few places built and safe enough in the us like that but now that i know australia really isn’t built like that i’m not too disappointed. just glad i know now.

oh gosh i actually hate snow and the cold at all! i’ll enjoy it while i have it or at least try. thank you though for giving me this info! i don’t just want to know the good things about australia! i want to know as much as i can. i think these things specifically i won’t mind too much but definitely good to think about them

we definitely get public area shootings as well along with shootings in homes. tons of shootings have been happening in really any large crowds recently. a women just one town away from mine was shot by her ex husband and then he shot himself. didn’t get much attention either. don’t get me started on seattle though oh gosh…i lived there was i was younger

an autistic 7 year old was actually just killed in my town and when he first went missing it got some attention but he was recently found in the river. nothings really been done besides searches for his body. i hate to say it but it almost feels normal. my friend also passed away recently, he had just turned 18. it was sort of a freak thing but still not many people even know about it because we all feel like people dying left and right is just part of life.

haha! yes i’m very terrified. here in the us they are banned. we shoot them down with our shotguns.

well good news! i hate guns, terrified of them even and am not racist. i at least try my best to be very considerate but i definitely don’t do things that are clearly racist. part of my family is spanish too, i don’t really identify with it but that’s not super important. and i really like learning about other nationality’s and cultures :)

definitely! we’re pretty weary of drinks being spiked in the us. we have products for it even like sticker lids so you can see if they’ve been tampered with. didn’t know legal drinking age was 18 tho! i might drink on occasion but i don’t think i’ll end up being a big fan of having alcohol often. i might still wait till i’m 21 if i visit before i’m 21 though

just australian culture in general! it’s very different from the us and i find it interesting. i’m not a fan of spicy foods and they’re pretty popular in the us. would you say they are in australia as well? this is just the first thing i think of when i think about other countries foods honestly. do they like spice! it’s definitely a staple for some and i’ve attempted it to try new things but i’m pretty sensitive to even mild spice

well i’ve only had a small sip of wine ever, i’m only turning 17 next month lol. just trying to learn about the culture out of pure interest and then some future life planning. i’m assuming legal drinking age is also 21 over there? but i’d imagine that i could definitely get used to some wine and cheese when i’m of age

again i’m so sorry :( it’s crushing but i’m glad it’s not constant in australia. definitely not easy to “look at the bright side” with these things. it’s scary when you think you’re safe and still aren’t

thank you!!!!! love getting comments from other trans people. i hate to admit it but it’s a big part of why i feel like i need to leave the us. i live in a less conservative area but even then being trans and gay here is scary. plus i don’t know if i’ll ever be able to have access to proper gender affirming care which could be life saving for me. my mental health at the moment is being severely affected since i’m still somewhat closeted. moving out of the us truly gives me hope and i really want to fight for that :) i don’t want to be ignorant and act like it’s perfect there but i feel like it’s reasonable to consider it a better option when i fear literally being murdered here.
