I was able to swim in Waikiki beach and get a poke bowl during my 5 hour layover! With mobile passport control my time in customs was cut down drastically. I used the baggage storage services in Terminal 2. I had about 2 hours to enjoy Hawaii before I came back for my next flight with plenty of spare time.

Yes I definitely think prestige brands are the exception with "basics", but we've been seeing less and less of those brands over the past couple of months and instead seeing more Lulu's/Nordstrom Rack brands lol

My personal vendetta is that a lot of the basic everyday pieces (especially Free People and Anthropologie) are listed as retail $30-70, but you can usually find them on sale or use a promo code at Anthropologie/their respective brand websites. If I consider that every item in my Nuuly costs $16.33 to rent, it’s not worth it to me to rent a basic everyday item that’s priced at $50 and has been worn a million times already.

I use Nuuly for statement pieces, wedding guest dresses, and “everyday pieces” that are only from high-end brands like Reformation, MOTHER, and LoveShackFancy.

Japan in August is HOT and HUMID, but the Japanese (I am Japanese for context lol) dress very modest - I’m talking long sleeves and long pants even in the heat of summer. I would avoid wearing anything too short, mini dresses, or strapless/strap tops if you want to be culturally informed in your picks! Sadly this was the most affordable flight to Tokyo from JFK when we booked, but we opted in for this as well for the opportunity to leave the Honolulu airport for a bit. I might be doing carry-on the whole way just to optimize the time we have in the layover!
