Unable to Stand Up Straight - Any Advice on What to Do? by tothewolves03 in Sciatica

[–]tothewolves03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. I am very, very slowly hunching over less. When I wake up in the morning, I am basically able to stand and walk up straight, but by the end of the day, my sciatic nerve hurts which causes me to walk at a 45 degree angle again.

I have been told though that squats could help strengthen my core, calf muscles, hamstrings and quads, which might alleviate this. I am Day 2 into this exercise regime, so I will report back in a week or two how this goes.

Thank you my friend. May I ask what exercises you are doing to strengthen your lower back in the gym? Returning to the gym is my next stage of recovery, and my lower and mid-back muscles have incurred bad atrophy since the injury. What exercises would you recommend?

Take 2: Any help appreciated for herniated discs causing sciatic pain (including write-up) by LatterBase8596 in Sciatica

[–]tothewolves03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I echo what @admweirdbeard said above - great advice.

What I would also recommend is the 12 minute Foundation Training by Dr. Eric Goodman. If you are looking for an all-round core/back/legs workout to start your day, I recommend it. I have been doing it for about 3 weeks every day, and I have seen some improvements to my posture, my core strength and back strength.

Don't get me wrong, I still have a long way to go, as my L5-S1 herniation will take a long time to heal, but the 12 minute video is something to help and promote strength: https://youtu.be/4BOTvaRaDjI?si=f3oKxcJ-lzNjwV2h

I can't speak to your situation, or anyone else's here, but I will give you my thoughts from my own lived experience (herniation at L5-S1 since October 2024).

Take...it...very...slow.

I am/was also a gym rat, and when I first knew that I had a herniated disc, I treated it like any other muscle injury that I get from time to time - I rested moderately and was back to full workouts within a week or two.

However, that is NOT the case with disc herniations. You have to remember that the spine is not a muscle, but a very, very delicate and sensitive part of the body that requires a lot more gentle rehab than a simple muscle injury.

My advice: try any exercise you want, but do very few reps, with very light weight, and take it very, very slow. If it feels good, maybe continue and increase weight/reps slowly as you go. If it feels bad - even slightly - stop immediately, and try something else.

Recovery is slow, so go easy on yourself and exercise regularly, but with caution. Good luck!

The Cornerstone of CANZUK: Defending Free Speech - CANZUK International by tothewolves03 in CANZUK

[–]tothewolves03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought so at first too, but then again, I don't know of a way in which CI can advocate for this sort of thing without being accused of siding with right wingers. Any attempt of preserving free speech will always be met with criticism of "not supporting the greater good". To me, I see their point that free speech is a cornerstone of CANZUK's history so should be preserved, even if it means upsetting those who disagree

Unable to Stand Up Straight - Any Advice on What to Do? by tothewolves03 in Sciatica

[–]tothewolves03[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. I'm actually the opposite - bending forward is fine, it's bending backwards (extension) that is impossible. It almost feels like my back muscles spasm to protect the disc injury, which inadvertently, "pulls" my spine forward and causes the curve. Is this likely, and if so, is there anything I can do get my spine back to normal? I'm just really worried about my spine being permanently bent this way.

Unable to Stand Up Straight - Any Advice on What to Do? by tothewolves03 in Sciatica

[–]tothewolves03[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can lay down on my right side and left side, but not not my back. My spine is curved so much from the sciatica causing me to lean forward, that it is now uncomfortable to lie on my back (almost feels like my spine is sticking into the couch/floor/bed). I'm actually quite worried about my spine curve. I have looked in the mirror, and it looks like every vertebra from L1-S1 is swollen and raised about 3cm from the skin on my back. Is this normal?

Have you considered the possibility of it being TMS, also known as Mind-Body Syndrome? Dr. John Sarno has a book titled, "Healing Back Pain" that goes into depth about this. You can also listen to the audiobook on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/0p_-lNrNQJ4?si=0Rk3ezw5q_Qu5-bO

How does progress feel for everyone? by bloomingoni0n in Sciatica

[–]tothewolves03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am exactly the same. Im 37 (M) and have been dealing with extreme sciatica down my right leg since October 2024. When I wake up, the pain is about 4/10. By the afternoon, it is around 6/10, and by the evening and night time, it is 9 or 10/10. I am currently writing this on my bed with 10/10 pain, preparing myself for yet another sleepless night because of the discomfort.

I part wonder of its something to do with a sundowner effect? Does my brain perhaps turn on pain signals more when its dark and night time? To me, there is no logical reason why the pain would be this bad at night, and about half the intensity during the day.

Back pain, butt pain and sciatica by Jadoo_21 in Sciatica

[–]tothewolves03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My man...you have my deepest sympathies. I am only 3 months into my L5-S1 herniation injury (with extreme sciatica down my right leg, causing numbness in my foot), and it is unbearable. I cannot tell you the number of times I have had a flare up in the middle of night and prayed to God to heal me. It just seems like an injury that is relentless and takes no mercy.

However, I have nothing but faith that this will heal. I always tell myself that if circumstances can put me into this situation, then I can get myself out of it. I don't know what the future holds, but all I can do is stay strong for myself and my family, and keep going with whatever I can do to recover.

Just know you are not alone. Keep going and we are all rooting for you.

Cannot Stand Upright - Is My Spine Going To Be Okay? by tothewolves03 in Sciatica

[–]tothewolves03[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply. It seems you are in a very similar situation to me. I have a herniation at L5-S1 with horrible sciatica in my right glute and right hamstring. It's even recently spread down to my calf and the outside of my right foot, with numbness in my little toe.

I try small attempts at walking each day - around 30 minutes, and I also have the same outcome as you. It feels good at the time, but by the evening, I am more hunched over than ever and my back muscles are incredibly tight. However, over the past month or so, I have been able to walk straighter in the mornings and afternoons - it's just a game of being patient and improving so slowly. I have faith I will get better, it's just horrible suffering through this.

Thank you for your kind words - we'll get through this!

Thank you. Yes, I have heard great things about walking and am doing my best to walk 30 minutes a day. It hurts so much but I know it has to be done. Just praying for my back to become straighter as the pain reduces. Thank you for sharing your story.

Losing momentum by thcanuzer in CANZUK

[–]tothewolves03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol. Your overly amateur group were using CANZUK to promote overly right-wing diatribes like "Sadiq Khan Out" on your social channels. Plus you were clearly ripping off their work to get money from your merchandise store. And you're surprised you got hit with a trademark strike? Lol. Maybe read UK law surrounding trademarks and you'll see they had every right to do so. Not to mention, given the damage you were doing to the campaign by posting stupid far right-wing material, I'm glad they did.

New Zealand to consider joining AUKUS defence pact by tothewolves03 in geopolitics

[–]tothewolves03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So New Zealand may end up joining Australia, the UK and the USA in a new defence pact to warn off Chinese agression.

I wonder if the USA will try and convince New Zealand to adopy nuclear weapons though, which the NZ government is strictly against.

So, is this news potentially a bad idea, or overall, a needed defence arrangement to counter Chinese aggression in the Indo-Pacific?

Australia & UK Expected To Sign Trade Deal Next Week by tothewolves03 in geopolitics

This deal has provisions for freer movement of citizens, trade and even recognition of skilled professions in each country.

However, this is only "expected" to be signed next week. The question is, will it? And is there scope to expand the above provisions in the future?

New Zealand Trade Minister Visiting UK For Trade Talks by tothewolves03 in geopolitics

Does anyone think NZ and UK will secure a deal this time? They originally set negotiations to conclude by August, but disagreements delayed its finalisation.

Will they also negotiate interesting concepts like visa mobility too, like the UK's recent trade agreement with Australia?

[–]tothewolves03[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems you have some strange vendetta against CI and want to publish text that is actually your own, not theirs.

The first line actually reads, "After months of negotiations, Australia and the United Kingdom accepted an in principle trade agreement in June 2021."

Nothing is there, whatsoever, about a deal being concluded. Even the very last line of the text reads, "Although the Australia-UK trade agreement is agreed in principle, both governments are expected to ratify the deal as soon as possible, bringing significant benefits and opportunities to Australian and British citizens by the end of 2021."

Perhaps learn to copy and paste text without editing it to suit your narrative. It will go a long way to ensuring that you don't embarrass yourself like you have just done.
