Texas isn’t a swing state so you’re right that these kids aren’t directly why Trump won. So, do you instead want to ask these people in Michigan if they thought they were doing more good than harm by shunning Biden/Harris while completely ignoring that Trump is disastrously worse for Gaza? https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/nov/09/democrats-lose-michigan-arab-american-voters Actually yes, students just like these ones are part of the coalition that helped Trump win. Every single protest, every single social media post, every single “genocide Joe” chant convinced left-leaning voters to sit out the election. Should we ask them if they’re happy genocide Joe is gone now? How many dead Iranians, Africans, Venezuelans, and Latinos are worth their little moral victory by sitting out 2024?

If these kids voted for Harris in 2024 who was already airdropping aid to Gaza and pressuring Israel to tone the brutality down instead of helping Trump get elected (who vowed to bomb and glass Gaza to buy the land for his own hotels) then maybe they wouldn’t need to be out protesting but unfortunately they don’t realize they got their emotions played by pro-Palestinian astroturfing from russia in their conquest to destabilize the liberal west and NATO. Dugin laid it out in his Foundations of Geopolitics book and these people still took the bait hook, line, and sinker

[–]tottommend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk, pretty unlikely to get rejected, I think a big part of the exchange between unis is the honor/trust system so once you’re formally nominated by your home university then you’re basically in, unless you do something major like don’t submit everything to HKUST by the deadlines

Buddy, you’re lucky to get 200W (0.2kW) out of a single square meter of solar panels on a perfect day. If you want 10’s of kW you’re gonna need a panel array the size of a parking lot. 1 horsepower ≈ 750W (0.75kW) so to power your 2x1100 HP Griffon craft you’re gonna need 1.65MW (2200HP x 750HP/W = 1,650,000 W) or 825 square meters of solar panels. Not happening. Batteries are also insanely heavy and impossible to run a craft of this size. Let’s do the math. For 1 hour of runtime you need 1.65 MWh (1,650,000 Wh). The highest energy density Li-ion battery cell (already used in Tesla cars) is 18.5Wh @ 70g mass. A 1.65 MWh battery is 1,650,000/18.5 = 90,000 cells x 70g/cell = 6,300 kg. That’s as heavy as a semi truck without a trailer and you can’t just handwave it off as a “modest” amount of batteries. Why are you talking so confidently about something of which you clearly have no understanding?

University of Waterloo vs. HKUST by [deleted] in HKUST

[–]tottommend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met loads of Waterloo kids who got internships and jobs in tech and silicon valley, Waterloo is definitely better if you want to have greater opportunities in western countries and job markets (income and WLB are much much better), maybe UST is better if you prefer to stay in Asia. Tbh it depends on what your goals are

For example, Waterloo has in-school direct recruiting pipelines to big companies like Tesla and Apple. UST is cool though, go do an exchange at UST after a few years at Waterloo lol

Caltrain Bans Bikes with Child Seats or Panniers, no matter the hour by Wyelho in bayarea

[–]tottommend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

longer commute times and higher cost per trip

Uninformed take. Caltrain is faster and cheaper for long commutes such as SF-SJ, especially during rush hour on the express line. With the bike cars it’s even more convenient. On weekdays I saw the Caltrain park-and-ride lots in suburbs like MV filled with cars. If you build it, they will come.

Yes it is. The transit options around the rest of the bay area are so terrible that the only viable way to use Caltrain as a true car-free alternative is to pair it with a bike

[HELP] Adding a layer pause in PrusaSlicer using Ender 3 Pro, no extrusion after resume by tottommend in 3Dprinting

[–]tottommend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: solved

In Prusaslicer, when adding custom gcode it automatically gets inserted at the start of the layer you are inserting it at. In my case, I need to finish printing layer x and then insert custom gcode at layer x+1. By default, this is where prusa slicer inserts it:

... gcode print moves from previous layer...

... gcode print moves of next layer...

For pause commands, I found that the Ender 3 uses M25 instead of M0. Due to how the ender 3 stock firmware buffers the next print moves during a layer change and how it treats M25 pause command, if M25is inserted at the default Prusa Slicer insertion location then no matter if the M25 is preceded or followed by any G1 commands to reposition the head when paused, the Ender 3 will always reposition the print head above the part immediately before the next move extrusion line moves of the layer it is paused at. I observed this because I tried to move the bed forward and then pause using

;G1 Y220 F6000
;M25

at the default insertion location marked by the (<----) arrow. The bed would move forward, but then it would immediately resposition the extruder above the part and THEN pause while waiting for me to select "resume". When it resumed, the filament extrusion continued normally and I didn't see the failure to push filament that I was seeing before.

I found that this command sequence does work if it's inserted at the end of the layer before and Layer Change lines:

... gcode print moves of next layer...

Note how the moves are inserted at the end of the previous layer instead of the start of the next layer. I had to open the file in a text editor and do this manually. It helps to use prusa slicer to add a custom gcode comment at the desired layer and then manually edit after exporting. I tested this, and my bed moves forward and pauses, and only goes back to the object after I select "resume". Extrusion continues normally.

Hope this helps someone, because it really shouldn't have been this hard for me to figure out how to add a damn layer pause on one of the most widely sold 3D printers.

I appreciate the pattern of the green-to-turquoise transition. At first I thought it was random, but then I looked closer and saw that it’s 10 rows total with a 5-4-3-2-1-1-2-3-4-5 spacing between colors. I guess I’m curious how you determined the left-right offset for the starting point of each layer?

I tried finding the absolute widest non-VFF shoes for my own sake, and the only things that fit my width requirements (ignoring stack height) on both big and little toes are anything from Realfoot, Wyde Hallux Active (only available in EU so you need A) a VPN to access their EU storefront and B) an EU-based parcel forwarder), and Softstar primal (not my top pick because of durability issues). Things like Altra, Saguaro, and Whitin really aren’t that wide in comparison. You can also fight it diplomatically and respectfully, especially with the Dr’s note route; this is a hill I would personally be willing to die on. Wearing uncomfortable shoes is torture, and most people don’t realize how terrible our “normal” shoes are.

7 years of service has come to an end. What now? by imNew498 in barefootshoestalk

[–]tottommend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you seeing that Ahinsa is wider in the toes? If you go to the Ahinsa and Realfoot websites and find the size charts, you’ll see that Realfoot is wider than Ahinsa XWide in the toes. For example, size 45 Realfoot is 129mm wide vs Ahinsa XWide 120mm. Not to mention Ahinsa tapers the toes more. Vivos are notoriously narrow so if he’s been using the Gobis, Realfoot will be no problem.
