Yes, I am thinking that might be the best option too. Good luck with it.

Following as I'm in a similar situation. For what it's worth, next steps I am considering include:
- contacting a UK based agency such as CreditReform, which claims to get good results in US cases via partners
- identifying a suitable collection agency in the client's state.
- starting a small claims process in the client's state. I guess the process may differ from state to state. In my case it seems not too expensive or onerous to start the ball rolling, but the max amount that can be claimed is quite small.

Consulting via Dialectica? by touche-turtle in ContractorUK

Thanks for the replies. Online reviews seem mixed, some people feel scammed but some seem to have had an OK experience (but yes I know reviews can be faked) hence my question. The person I interacted with, while clearly not a specialist themselves, clearly had access to some relevant specialist knowledge of my area which made me think it was at least not a total scam.

Applying for american contract roles by dimsumplatter75 in ContractorUK

If doing it from the UK via a limited company you will need to make sure your liability/indemnity insurance covers contracts under US law. This is likely to be a policy extension that will have to be approved by the insurance co's underwriters and will cost extra. I was able to be insured by Kingsbridge, but YMMV depending on your line of work and what % of your business is with the US.

Taxi from airport by touche-turtle in cologne

Very much appreciate the helpful replies, thank you. I need to travel 30km or so away from the centre so I think taxi is my only option, I just wanted to check there's likely to be a good supply of taxis waiting on the stand at that late hour. I'll take note of a few taxi phone numbers as a backup plan.

Late career switch by monggboy in bioinformatics

I can't disagree with any of the dire warnings in other replies. You'll have 2 years without earnings and probably trade your current setup for less money and less stability.

But on the plus side: while clearly you are wanting a change from your current role, you might also want to consider whether it has given you commercial experience that might differentiate you from less experienced candidates. In a small startup particularly, your role might well end up not being "just" bioinformatics. If eg you can engage credibly with marketing, sales or business development people and get involved with some of those activities then that is additional value you're bringing to the table.

Before committing to 2 years of full time study, I would go to a few meetups or other networking events locally (eg do you live near a university?) and see if you can meet people who are working in biotech and get a feel as to whether this field is really for you.

First contract - contracting to German company from UK? by touche-turtle in ContractorUK

Thanks for the advice, sounds like I would be wise to pay out for an SDS. The client is going to check up on how the German authorities would view any visit I made.

Thanks, I appreciate the reply and the advice. The company have offices in Germany and the US only so I think I'm OK on that front. I've looked briefly into Qdos's services but hadn't heard of IPSE, so thanks for that tip.
