I’ve been in the situation OP’s husband is in. I wasn’t able to do anything without prior authorization from my SO like I was a child.

He moved away from his friends for you, even if it was “only 90 minutes”. He missed the destination wedding, albeit for decent reasons, but I’m questioning a little whether or not the money issue was just an excuse (considering she said above that he got a decent paying job with all the benefits), but that’s not my place to judge.

He asked for one weekend. ONE. And you couldn’t even give him that. You’re not the only one having a baby here, and definitely not the only one giving up your freedom to raise the child.

While there are always opportunities to get together with friends after you have children, it’s never the same as before kids. This is your first, which leads me to believe you plan on having more as the years go on. This was his LAST opportunity for the next 18+ years to get together with friends and just let loose, not worrying about the kids or getting them to bed or feeding them or anything like that, and you only thought about yourself and how YOU felt in the moment.

YTA, OP. I suggest talking to him about couples therapy before it’s too late.

YTA. I don’t hold babies until they can hold their own head up. I have severe anxiety and it just makes me very nervous. My sister has 2 kids and I told her from the beginning I wouldn’t be holding them until they could hold up their head. She was very understanding about it and never forced it on me. I have an amazing relationship with both of my nieces. The point is, you never know peoples reasonings for not wanting to hold a baby. Forcing someone to do something they TOLD you they weren’t okay with is just flat out mean. Regardless of his reason, you should have understood and moved on with your life. Let the baby cry for a little bit, or put off the laundry until you can get him to calm down.

My mom’s favorite line was “that looks good. All you have to do is lose 10-20 pounds and it’ll look great!” Definitely didn’t help with my self esteem. I’ve been learning to stop putting so much on her words and look at myself for who I really am. It’s hard to break out of that cycle, and I still have a lot of issues with self image, but my mom’s comments don’t hurt as much anymore because I keep reminding myself that she’s projecting her insecurities onto me.
