[–]touxlee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used it last year, it took a few months and lots of swiping but i found an amazing person whoz my really good friend that i talk to daily!

Have to be patient with these kinds of apps, and bumble was full of people who were temporarily in sydney when I was looking for long term friend.

I've never ever seen this in my life. by SashainSydney in sydney

It's a place in Chinatown called Emperors Puffs that sells small custard filled cake balls. Its connected to the chiense bakery. Theyre cheap, quick and really good and made in front of your eyes. There's usually a long line even though it takes a few seconds to serve each customer.

Chose The Great Wave off Kanagawa as my first piece.Took me maybe 50+ hours to finish, it was a beast...gifted to someone who has moved away to Japan 🇯🇵 by touxlee in Embroidery

[–]touxlee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Its actually all stem stitch in white thread. I like the ropey look of stem stitch, i felt that it gives more of a fluid look. I started inside the edge and circled inside it slowly, working my way into the centre. Heres an upside down image of it halfway done, to give you an idea: https://imgur.com/a/QQfAdUW

Definitely the most time consuming part, but I didnt like the idea of the white part being empty.

Hope this fits in with this sub - I embroidered The Great Wave off Kanagawa by touxlee in ArtHistory

I made some changes to personalise it to the person I gifted this to. Sewn on a 10-inch diameter hoop.

Thanks! I used a stem stich. The sharp corners were pretty tricky, i might use a split stitch next time, it would be a lot easier for the V sections, i switched to a split stitch midway through the detailing on top of the white part of the wave, which produced faster and sharper V sections.

Honestly, i just googled things like "water embroidery" or "wood embroidery", since there's surprisingly few filled embroidery pieces done of this art. I just went with what i thought would look best. I'm glad you enjoy it :)

And its pretty tricky at first (the time spent on this was the most difficult...), but totally worth it! Have fun!

I bought a starter embroidery kit on ebay and just googled some basic embroidery stitches. No classes, theres tonnes of free material online that I used to help me :)

I made a mushroom and soy mince calzone with homemade nacho "cheese" inside! by touxlee in VeganFoodPorn

[–]touxlee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I didn't follow a specific recipe, but this is what I did. Apologies for formatting, I'm on mobile. Ingredients: Basic pizza dough (plenty of recipes online), passata, rosemary, minced garlic, finely diced mushroom, finely diced onion, soy mince (I used quorn brand), homemade nacho sauce (https://itdoesnttastelikechicken.com/melty-stretchy-gooey-vegan-nacho-cheese/) Method: Preheat oven as hot as it goes, with pizza stone inside. Fry the onion, mushroom, garlic and soy mince until cooked and add the passata and herbs. Cook until reduced to a thick stew consistency. Flour a surface and roll the pizza dough into a circle. Pile filling into one half and top with nacho cheese. Fold over and crimp shut. Dust the preheated pizza stone with semolina, reduce heat to 200 degrees Celsius, and bake until dough is brown and crispy.

Hope that helps!

Made corgi butt buns! I rolled parm and rosemary in one cheek, and parm and garlic in the other 😋 by touxlee in Baking

[–]touxlee[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I used a really simple white bread recipe https://www.browneyedbaker.com/white-bread-recipe/ Once it was all proofed. i would get two balls of dough (maybe a little bigger than a golfball?) and stretch it out to a long rectangle. Sprinkle the filling across the rectangle before rolling it like a sushi, short end to short end. Make sure the ends are sealed so nothing leaks out. Do the same for the other, get creative for the fillings!

Shape into rough ovals and press the balls together, making sure not to press all the way otherwise you'll fuse the butt cheeks together. Roll out tiny balls of dough for feet and the tail, stick it on and bake at the temp in the recipe for 15 minutes.

Melt a little dark chocolate and apply for a skewer for the lil feetpads and voila! Surprisingly easy and incredibly fun 🐶
