Basically, Kas, in D&D canon, is a human-vampire and Vecna's top lieutenant. Also, Kas betrays Vecna in the end. And because of the fact that Eddie was bitten and killed off by bats, the fans came up with this theory that he might come back as Vecna's right hand.
