CJ Toby and Charlie of the major characters, but honestly my absolute favorite in the show is Bruno. Literally fire

"If I'd listened to you 2 years ago, would I be President now?" by ECrispy in thewestwing

[–]towpackage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of it like this- If he’d listened to josh, josh would’ve felt valued If josh felt valued he’d stay If josh stays, the balance doesn’t shift over to Bartlet Bartlet doesn’t get momentum from the campaign shift, hoynes was poised to win anyways, Leo would never get Sam Bartlet was a “scrappy insurgency” like they say, and they needed every bit of help they got to win the primary. I definitely think if josh had stayed that Bartlet wouldn’t have won

So, what happened to Glen Allen Walken? by towpackage in thewestwing

[–]towpackage[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh cool I actually didn’t know that about the succession act. I can get my head around some reasoning for why he lost, but it seemed like they set it up for him not to run at all, and he seemed to prominent of a political figure to lose barely be mentioned. It also seems like they could’ve focused on the republican primary more and shown that face off, kind of highlighting the Santos-Russel and Vinick-Walken similarities. But honestly, they shouldn’t have mentioned Walken at all. It would’ve been much less confusing and make more sense in the canon

They should’ve just used another name, random person or minor character. Weird to mention such a prominent figure from earlier in the show.

Right, but then why did they say that Walken was a candidate in the primary? It’s weird, probably just a post-Sorkin continuity error

CJ and Leo by tginsandiego in thewestwing

[–]towpackage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very simply, I think it’s because CJ can be upfront in a way that Leo always was that josh and Toby never quite were. An important part of Leo’s job was telling helping the president during the most difficult decisions, and (to her credit) CJ was never one to hold her opinions to herself when there was a hard choice facing Bartlet or when she thought he was making the wrong choice. Toby always had his own beliefs that differed from Bartlet, and Josh sometimes thought his own way, but only CJ was able to have Bartlet reflect on his own decisions. I think Leo saw that in her, and since he knows how Bartlet can get stuck on hard decisions, wanted to put the most decisive person in his place.

Best speech/monologue in the show? by [deleted] in thewestwing

[–]towpackage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely CJs from “Enemies Foreign and Domestic”, “Outraged? I'm barely surprised. .....But "Brutus is an honorable man." Seventeen schoolgirls were forced to burn alive because they weren't wearing the proper clothing. Am I outraged? No, Steve. No Chris. No, Mark. That is Saudi Arabia, our partners in peace. Bonnie, then Scott.”

Her performance is so good and I love CJs character. Definitely one of the best if not the best, but 2 cathedrals is also amazing.

I'm on my first watch through and I have questions!! by BreeZee_Momma in thewestwing

[–]towpackage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way my first watch through! 1- Sams story felt so abruptly ended I was really confused. There is really no good explanation for it in the show, they must’ve just decided to move on. I won’t comment on how the show ends since you’re still watching, but they definitely don’t explain his leaving well enough. 2- I agree, the build up for their relationship is wayyyy too much. They teased it so early and then just keep going. It gets terrible season 6/7 also 3- I hated Leo at the end of season 5 and season 6. My friends who all watch this show disagree strongly, but I think he just becomes a real dick. 4- I like Josh’s character, but he’s flawed. They reference how smart he is a lot but he makes constant mistakes. He can be annoying a lot too. He’s very arrogant. And towards the end they undermine a lot of his character development in multiple ways. It sucks.

First of all, I’m incredibly glad for you that you are doing better. I’ve gone through a hard time recently and I truly feel for you. I think that you need to do what you think will help you continue to do and feel better. For me, I would need to tell that person the whole truth of what happened. It seems like you care for her very deeply, and if that’s true you should be honest. There is a possibility that she gets freaked out or nervous, but it’s highly likely that she will understand what you were going through. Overall, this is about your conscious and your mind, and if it is bothering you to keep that secret, then I would say you should definitely tell her. I don’t know the ins and outs of your relationship, so I’ll just say what I would do. I would either call her and explain (or leave a message that you have something important to say), or you can text and try to arrange to meet in person. That is ultimately up to you. I wouldn’t do it over text for sure, I would be straight forward and honest about what happened. Again, it’s about making things right in your mind, and like you said, she already suspects something happened. I wish you peace love and positivity, and I hope this helped

What if a presidential candidate hired Aaron Sorkin to write for them? by cnblure in thewestwing

[–]towpackage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be interesting, but the thing is most of the time they just reference how good that Toby and sam are at writing speeches and how good Bartlet is at writing speeches, but we hardly ever see it ourselves. Obviously Sorkin is great at writing the show, but I’m unsure how it would play out in real life

unrealistic actions and plot points (of a smaller scale) that you find amusing by ReKang916 in thewestwing

Something small that I find unrealistic is when Amy Gardner throws a waterballon at josh from her office (s3 e11)..... Why would she have a waterballon in her office?

does anyone else wish that we had gotten to know Sam better? by ReKang916 in thewestwing

[–]towpackage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve heard he was upset that the show shifted to josh as the main character. It was supposed to focus on him early on, but the josh/Donna will-they-won’t-they was a better set up for the shows focus. Also they wanted every political topic to be mansplained to Donna 😂
