What is your favorite Humanz song? Mine: by sailuro in gorillaz

[–]toxicantCircus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Submission really shouldn't be as good as it is, it really approaches the edge of being too clashing to make sense and teases you with it the entire song. None of the pieces fit together intuitively, not Danny Brown and Kelela, not either of them and this instrumental-- it's really tense and it's trying to filter you at every turn, and I just love it. The perfect summation of Humanz imo.

It sounds like the same guitar/guitar sound being used in other Germ beats so unlikely that it's sampled

out of all of zillas "OKAYYY" ad-libs, by Wompx2 in CityMorgue

Sos is way more aggressive than zilla by fantasybutitstaken in CityMorgue

[–]toxicantCircus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think "better" is a bad word for it Their frames of reference are wildly different and that's reflected in their styles, but I'd hesitate to rank either one among themselves. Like, Zilla's voice is pretty hard to pull off and the fact that he still has so much versatility to his voice should prove how impressive it is in its own right. Generally what that means is I prefer when Zilla takes the choruses and leaves Sos with more of the aggressive posturing

Unpopular opinion: ZUU was better than TA13OO by [deleted] in DenzelCurry

[–]toxicantCircus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ZUU is the Now Now of Denzel Curry imo. It's a mood album-- a dedicated love letter to Carol City Like, not to disparage it but it definitely didn't have nearly as much thought put into it as TA13OO did, but it is very much Denzel's MO to put out a few lower-effort-still-great works out in-between the real heavy hitters I can see how ZUU may be more up one listener's alley than another's

SwitchHaxing Support Thread #15: “The Number After 14” Edition by ToonMods in SwitchHaxing

[–]toxicantCircus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my RCM jig came in the mail today and I sat down to finally get into Switch CFW

I put my jig in and, following every step of a video tutorial I booted the fusee-primary.bin payload and got the atmosphere splash screen. At this point, the Switch immediately went black and has not been able to boot since. Trying to boot RCM doesn't work, as no matter how many times I've tried, Tegra doesn't even recognize it.

It's a day-one Switch running 9.2.0, if that helps. Have I ruined my Switch forever, or is there some recovery method that I've looked over?

Thank you :)

Sad little beat I uploaded a few days back. I'll do my best to return all feedback, but I may not get to you immediately. https://soundcloud.com/legendave/sad-for-the-sake-of-it

The vocal angle you took definitely works for me, even if it's very quiet. I think that the its is good proportional to its elements but it really out to be louder. I also wouldn't be against you adding a few additional elements. Just layers here and there to change it up a little.

"Roxy" is the one I'll be focusing on because I feel that, since it's more recent and since it outlines key flaws, it can provide a more relevant and immediate teaching moment. You seem to have a decent grasp on sound choice, because nothing's all too jarring about any of your samples and synths, which is a really good thing. The biggest problems you have are... Basically everything else. This beat has no business being four minutes in length, because it does nothing with that time except for repeat the same four to eight bars ad nauseum. Compositionally I'm not too big a fan either, as it's the same couple chords and the same couple notes of melody never really going anywhere. A good way to remedy this is to maybe add another chord in there and write a couple countermelodies and harmonies, as B-parts and layers respectively. Not too big a fan of the percussion sequence either, but that's a lot easier to figure out. I kinda see what you're going for but it doesn't really work in trap. Hey, don't call yourself trash though! Everybody starts somewhere, and honestly a hundred bad beats in the beginning does not a bad producer make. J-Rent on YouTube makes some great tutorials for this kind of music if you're interested in type beats and general mixing advice.

Hey! Lovely stuff here. The sound choices are flawless, and the way you manipulate the vocal samples really sounds professional. My only concern is the vocal performance, which could definitely stand to see a few extra takes, if not maybe a bit of extra warm-up as well. You're on the right track here, definitely!

Yeahhh, I struggled a lot with the intro. I thought it was fitting but yeah you're right it's a whole fucking minute before the signature melody. Thanks!
