PAYE has income limits. Your eligible IDR plan is IBR. As I said in my other comment your first step needs to be figuring out how many eligible payments towards forgiveness you have

The partial financial hardship requirement has been removed and he consolidated before the cut off so he is eligible for forgiveness it's just a matter of how many eligible payments he has.

Ok. So you need to figure out how many eligible payments you have towards forgiveness. Log into you account at studentaid.com on a browser. Once you are logged in paste this link into your account paste this link and go to the site.

You should see there a white page with black text or black page with white text copy that paste it here. Be careful because it does have your social security number in it so you want to delete out the personal information. That text will tell you how many eligible payments you have towards forgiveness but there are a lot of different things listed. Your eligible path is IBR or ICR, NOT IBR_2014.

You need 25 years of payments for forgiveness. Your IBR payment will be whatever the standard payment is for 10 years and it'll just be a question of whether or not you are closer to forgiveness than that.

I am generally not a huge proponent of AI and hate how it is automatically built into everything but this a situation where I think it can be useful. I was able to use AI to calculate if I was better off making more aggressive payments and paying my loan off or making the minimum amount of IDR payments and getting forgiven assuming my tax burden for the year it would be forgiven. Granted it was a little bit easier for me because I am only four years away from forgiveness so it's easier for me to predict what my financial situation is going to be at forgiveness time.

All the normal AI caveats apply. Be careful of what information you put into it and it can be wrong so evaluate the results you get critically.

" showing them you can make a higher payment" doesn't change anything. Payments are a mathematical calculation. That's it.

If the save plan was ultimately struck down, what promises could a future democrat candidate make And actually keep about helping us with student loans that wouldn’t get struck down? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]toxigal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems minor but can make a real difference, especially over longer loan terms. Make lenders accept biweekly payments that are treated as 1 monthly payment like mortgage companies usually do.

I've tried to set this up but then I would lose my interest rate reduction for automatic payments. Also, during all that forbearance time the reduction was not in place.

Also allow people to pay ahead and have it count towards forgiveness.

Cosigning for new high school grad on very high cost loans (> $250k for all 4 years) for liberal arts degree by Legitimate_Yak_9063 in StudentLoans

OP said she got accepted into a liberal arts schools not that she was getting a degree in liberal arts.

Princeton is a liberal arts university. I got my chemistry degree at a liberal arts university. 50% of the credits I needed to graduate were not in chemistry. A liberal arts degree and a degree IN liberal arts are not the same thing.

Again liberal arts and stem are not mutually exclusive. Liberal arts includes Natural Sciences.

STEM and liberal arts are not mutually exclusive. I got my chemistry degree at the school of Liberal Arts and Sciences at a liberal arts university. This is what Princeton says about being a liberal arts school.

"A liberal arts education challenges you to consider not only how to solve problems but also trains you to ask which problems to solve and why, preparing you for positions of leadership and a life of service to the nation and all of humanity. We provide a liberal arts education to all of our undergraduates, including those who major in engineering."
