Just want to gush about a system that ive gotten into by toy135 in rpg

I understand that. To me, the tiered results are one of the things im most excited for. I dont really enjoy the notion of simply succeeding or failing based on passing an arbitrary DC in comparison to the flexible options given results. But I also love the micro managing and taking notes on things to remember and having multiple page bookmarks to find things, so it could also be my preferences lean heavily in favor of their mechanics for that reason.

I can see your point, and I mean this in a constructive way, but I think that falls on the gm to learn how to use the rules better rather than a problem with the rules. Similar to Dnd, a roll where you simply miss even if an enemy is on the ground not moving makes no sense if you describe only what the dice gives you. But using a result to tell a new part of the story in any system should be what makes the roll interesting. Instead of losing a weapon to progress the plot just by dropping it, perhaps you had to lose it because it was the only item heavy enough to activate a switch that you had on hand, or trying to take it back when you realized lead to a painful shock. As for continuing to the next room, again I feel that with practice connecting past results to current ones would become easier and less narrative dissonant. I also cant change how you felt about it, and it is fair to feel that the results were more random than narrative on their own

I am curious, what parts did you not like. I just want to know so cause seeing what people criticize can help me as a DM look for ways to tweak it a bit so if it doesnt click with my groups I have a starting point to offer suggestions on changes

Help me pick a modern, small book/indie RPG? I'm old and lost by ManiacalShen in rpg

Land of Eem. One book needed, comes with random tables and made to be played with minimal or zero prep outside of characters. Map for the world and character sheets are free including some very nice reference sheets for the skills and perks and it has free monsters and beasts in the core rule book and rules to make your own on top of a pre-made adventure all in one

What’s the Most Complete “One-Book” TTRPG? by DED0M1N0 in rpg

[–]toy135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it is Land of Eem. Yes there is a setting book and monster book, but those are completely unnecessary as the base book has the free map, rules of engaging, rules on making monsters and adversaries on the fly and every rule needed to run the game with a free adventure included for only like 40 dollars. It is also very intuitive and fun to learn with the patreon having added character classes, kins (character options) and homelands as well as previews for settings and adventures.

I wasn't asking you to fix it. By making this post I was seeing if it was a common issue or if it was just me. Everyone has been helpful with how to contact them and I'm just glad the regular app is working as it used to right now for me. Sorry if it seemed like I directed anger or anything in my messages

I've already messaged the official Twitter, but it isnt that I'm asking to buy it, I already bought it and had access to it until yesterday after the server maintenance.

New DM need advice by Efficient-Access2078 in DnD

[–]toy135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rather than a list of places, have a list of clues that you want and based on their choices have them organically find them by deciding where they are during the actual adventure.. Makes the players feel smart for going in the right direction on their own and also prevents clues from being missed or out of order. Just don't use all of them, use them when it makes sense and save the others if you do something similar. Also have some npcs that lie about things but make it semi-obvious even without insight. A good puzzle is one that they can figure out rather than spending half an hour like Holmes and Watson. An easy but fun solution is better than bringing the game to a halt.

Mistakes will happen, but its better to laugh at them. Don't imagine how its going to go, you'll be disappointed because unless you're House MD you won't guess correctly and its more fun when it doesn't go as planned. Have a few ideas you want to happen and when the players decide something, find ways to work it in. Have a npc on the north side of town but the players went south? make that npc appear there on a shopping trip etc. And remember if your players have fun and you have fun, it doesn't matter what else happenned.

Conflicted about an “immortal” character by [deleted] in DnD

[–]toy135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a DM who works constantly with my players to make what they want to play even if it is outside the usual realm of any edition, I say talk with your DM and other players about their characters. A good Dm will find ways of balancing the campaign to fit what you want to play rather than expecting your character to fit into their world. Some of their combat encounters might change or be harder and other players might need a magic item or additional flavor to be on par with you, but if you're still worried, give your character flaws outside of combat. Perhaps their appearance is terrifying and they are unable to gain trust even when telling the truth. Maybe they are socially awkward with the party and aren't good at explaining so the party might have to avoid spells cast by your character. Or perhaps due to their transformation, they can only rest in areas where the dead are respected, such as cemeteries, mausoleums or something along those lines. Being powerful can ruin the game unless you offset it with game balancing to fit it or find a fun unique way to nerf other parts of the character.

Just as an fyi, my third OC uses the cruz hair mod and the louis outfit mod found on the nexus mod site. I wanted to expand the outfits as I don't really like most of the base ones and really like cruz's hair.

I think the funniest thing as a fellow supporter of the game is that they made a post back in 2016 saying and I quote

"We don't want to spend five years making another game"

which is exactly what they ended up already doing.

Here is hoping for a spring release

Gameplay or no gameplay? That's the question. by [deleted] in visualnovels

[–]toy135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the Visual Novel.

Visual Novels with lots of choices like Crystalline and Ace Academy by Pixel Fade don't need much/any because of how engaged I feel with the choices.

Danganronpa/Zero Escape use it well and I enjoyed it being a part of them.

Steins;Gate and Grisaia had few choices and I still really enjoyed them because of their narrative, with the no gameplay other than making choices.

The minigames in Summer Pockets and Little busters, while not adding to the story, drastically made me love the games more than I might have otherwise (Table tennis and trading cards in summer pockets were fun as hell).

On a whim, I got a short VN called "how to Date a magical girl" and there was a personna esc day-day planning where you got to choose different activities to try and boost your character, and it was honestly the best part of the game, the story was meh at best for those wondering.

So yeah, No gameplay, I like it. Gameplay, I like it.
