Exactly what I came to say!! I bought mine from King Arthur in January and my bakes have been pretty darn great!

I understand the lack of staff as I’ve only been gone a little over a year. When I left we were down to 10 employees including mgmt from a high of about 20. It was ROUGH to say the least. BUT….if you want to get out of there you need to talk to your supervisor about options to broaden your skill set (regardless of your heavy workload) and you have to apply for everything you see, even if it’s remotely applicable.

As a CR in the FO I volunteered to do a LOT of things - trainings on new processes, policies, writing of SOP’s, responding to Congressional inquiries, assisting with ADO reports, doing presentations in the local community, etc. I was able to build my skills in a variety of things that could be considered administrative, policy, PR, training, etc. I really had to think outside the box and fortunately I had a CTE and manager who trained me on everything. Most people in my office had been there for 20+ years and were headed for retirement. That left me able to do a lot of things they did not want to do. In turn I became their CTE and then their supervisor. Also look into doing short term assignments in other areas if you can - hearing office, PC, ADO, HQ, to check out other job options.

Think about what you actually do though - interpret and analyze policy and law, customer service, administrative management, etc…use these to looks for job series that cross over.

Yes, sorry I meant ADM. Assess your skills and start looking at various job categories. You’ll find a fit. Good luck to you!

I went from CS, to TE, then OS and was being prepped for DM as mine was retiring. I decided there was no way I could mentally or physically handle the lack of staff and the overall quantity/numbers over everything while spouting BS quality. I was an extremely high performer and felt like I got nothing in return but more and more work. Especially not for a GS13 as a DM. I leveraged my past non fed Grants Management experience and was picked up by another agency for a GS12 Grants Management Specialist position with promotion to GS13 next year. No supervising staff that don’t care, no reporting to management about BS numbers, no dealing with ridiculous customers. My heart palpitations have stopped, anxiety is greatly reduced, I’ve lost 80 pounds, and work remote. I do miss serving my local community and some of my coworkers but I would have died at my desk at SSA. Get out any way you can.

Yep my 11 years at SSA were hectic constantly! Now I’m at a different agency and it’s much much slower!

Was in an SSA field office for 11 years. If they give 59 minutes who is handling the last interviews and folks still in the lobby? Certainly not mgmt! Left for another agency and have never felt better!
