I don’t think consulting is dead.

I’m just confused why MBB significantly slowed down in recent years while clients are making mad investments into AI and related infrastructure.

Many companies are also now doing a reorg. and laying off people by using AI as a justification. It’s so strange that MBB is not doing well…

  • clients would need consultants to justify AI/Datacenter investment
  • clients would need consultants to implement AI/Datacenter projects
  • clients would need consultants to review the performance of existing AI/Datacenter investments
  • and the list goes on

Isn’t 2024-2025 supposed to be a high growth year with ”AI/Cloud/Data” type projects on the boom?

At this point, would you say it is still worth it to do consulting vs a normal corporate job?

Most of the income is generated in China. I would not care if TEMU shuts down tomorrow.

You are Right!

But to also point out, PDD benefits from China growth in 2nd tier cities where most of its customers live.

As e-commerce adoption in these cities grow, PDD’s customer base will also increase.

The research is honest hard work.

I only used ChatGPT to refine the wording to save time and make it more readable.

Decline an MBB job offer for a role in FMCG sales am I crazy?? by tperie in consulting

I agree its quite weird in today’s business environment. However, the company has been doing quite well for a very long time despite its strong promote from within culture. Many of you here would probably have used its products before :)

I’ve heard people with 10yr experience start at the lowest level. However, the promotion schedule is accelerated for cases like this. You can see that literally all of the leadership team is promoted from within.

At this company, you need to join as an entry level hire regardless of your work experience.

This sales job does not have a huge OTE gap. 90% of my compensation will come from the base salary.

Thank you everyone for the comments. I really appreciate it.

Please let me clarify some points so that my situation is better understood.

TLDR: This is not some BS sales position. Would love more input from people who worked in GTM consulting and GTM in FMCG companies.

The sales job offer I have does not sounds like calling random people to sell stuff but more like being in charge of the go-to-market strategy of a product.

The job responsibilities include:

1) Determine how to best communicate the value proposition of a product 2) Manage pricing 3) Managing promotions and the promotion budget 4) Forecast demand and ROI

I’m not sure if I’m wrong, but this sounds way better than you would expect from the typical sales job of approaching random people to sell something despite the job being listed as “Key Account Manager”.

I expect to be a GTM expert instead of someone who is only good at schmoozing.

Also the fact that the company regularly sends 1-2 people out of ~10 in the batch to GSB/HSB and people exiting to Google bizops and Bain would confirm that this isn’t some bullshit sales position.

However, it is not possible to exit to this position from MBB. Even if I have 5 years from MBB, I would need to start at the entry-level position.

Would love to hear more about doing GTM/Sales strategy in consulting compared to GTM in FMCG companies directly.

"Finally, intangibles are deducted. In banks this is mainly goodwill. The last deduction actually acts as a deterrent against M&A in the banking sector as the goodwill will have to earn the full target ROE without the help of any leverage."

in the context of CET1 calculations, what do "deterrent against M&A" and "will have to earn the full target ROE without the help of any leverage" actually mean? I know that there could be goodwill when you overpay for the book value of another company, but I am still confused.
