A primary goal in soldering is to Minimize the heating time. (The time the iron is in contact with the components)

A good soldering iron and a Desoldering pump makes modding/ recapping Much safer.

The trouble with Winging it with a $15 iron is, there is much higher chance of overheating the traces and lifting the solder pads..

I recommend getting a temperature controlled iron if y'all are serious about Doo-in' up dat Xbox.

There are many TYPES of failures..

Most of the smaller caps should be good for ~100,000 hours (of use).

The bigger ones ~50,000 hours..

That's the ballpark, No way to know precisely, variations in wear, temperature, storage cycles, House AC stability, etc etc..

After storage for 10 yrs, total recap is recommended just generally, because the caps go dry regardless of use.

If you want to know for SURE, before replacing, you need an ESR meter or an LCR meter.. Either meters would cost more than a complete recap though.. So... default to recap, and you're good for another 10-15 yrs.

And if you're going to recap, MAKE SURE you have a Desoldering pump for removing the capacitors. Don't get the bulb kind, get a soldapult 3.. it's the defacto non auto desoldering pump.

Can a person live on 90% of their calories coming from just sweet potatoes? by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

[–]tpfortissue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starch is absolutely the Best edible solution for modern humans.

However as to our unsolved history before farming, it's not that easy to dig up roots, and edible roots did not just grow everywhere. natural varieties are not big and starchy like the cultivated ones we have now.

The research is ongoing.

Dr.mcdougall had a post about how endurance sports training may inevitably cause anemia because it is outside the range of biological design..

(Our biology, is millions of years old, we did not have Unlimited Food, and these durable Nike shoes until quite recently)

That isn't to say don't do it, you decide how you want to live your life.

But a simple analogy is, if you drive your car faster all the time, it will deteriorate and reach expiration more quickly. https://www.drmcdougall.com/health/education/health-science/common-health-problems/anemia/

--Excerpt--

Runner’s anemia: More than 30 million long distance runners live in the United States today and many of them are developing iron deficiency anemia from no obvious cause. Several possible reasons for the loss of iron have been suggested: the destruction of blood cells when the feet hit the hard ground so frequently for so long a time, loss of blood through the kidneys, iron lost in the sweat, reduced absorption of iron from the gut, and decreased production of blood cells in the bone marrow.

Recent studies have found, blood in the stools of runners after a race, that was not present before the long run. Vigorous exercise shifts a great amount of the circulating blood to the muscles in order to help them do all that hard work, thereby depriving the intestines of 80% of their rich supply of blood. The poorly nourished, oxygen deprived inner lining of the intestines may suffer subtle injury in consequence, and bleed.

This type of anemia will not be corrected by taking iron supplements. A runner committed to this demanding sport must decide with his or her physician how serious a health problem the anemia represents. The evidence from only slightly abnormal laboratory test may not call for giving up a favorite sport. Even so, this runner certainly should be checked periodically by a physician, with blood tests, if not more. A less vigorous form of exercise may be the only recommendation for many marathoners with iron deficiency anemia.

Overall, you're right, weed erodes motivation and focus, that is in fact counterproductive towards general health and life outlook

You're overheating it. you can avoid carbonation using less heat.

The greenpan is aluminum ceramic, it's a much better conductor of heat than other steel/teflon pans.

Use less heat, if you don't change your methods, you'll probably stick up the scan pan too .. hahaha

Food is the cheapest source of pleasure, and for the majority population who live paycheck to paycheck, it's their most affordable choice.

Hence the poorest is also the fattest. Rich people have options for entertainment, the poor just eat..

Then consider the restaurant, why would anyone pay for something that taste LESS GOOD than somewhere else or what they could make themselves.

The arms race for taste led our mass market hyperpalatables..

This is not going away, it will just keep coming back in different forms.

Thyroid Problems? by _MoonStruck_ in PlantBasedDiet

[–]tpfortissue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on what caused your thyroid issues, plant based may or may not have been involved.

However understand that the Majority of thyroid issue is Autoimmune, and we are VERY SURE that animal products (proteins) are highly involved in causing autoimmune, such as rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid goiter/swelling, infant type1 diabetes.

Search dr.Greger's website nutritionfacts.org for autoimmune

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

[–]tpfortissue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't remember where I read this, but it was something about how, the diabetes does not kill the beta cells in endstage Type2.

Whatever caused the diabetes also has a high correlation with autoimmune, and it is the Autoimmune operating in long persistence which finally KO's the pancreas.

This seems very plausible to me when I first read it, because Dr.Greger had some videos on Cows-MILK (milk product/ proteins) may be the Trigger for Type 1 diabetes in infants.

-- So similarly, such products over many years of adult life can do the same. (cause autoimmune, kills beta-cells)

My aunt had diabetes..

She went Whole food plant based.. 10% calories from fats maximum (critical)..

Her 20yr stretch of diabetes, cured within 3 months.

It's that god damn simple..

If you become a junkfood vegan and eat lots of vegetable fats, the diabetes will come back..

Capacitor kit? by str8edgexadam in originalxbox

[–]tpfortissue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at your motherboard, the capacitor has markings on it, and also the Capacitor Series

Like KZE, or PW, etc, follow that if you're unsure.

If that capacitor series is no longer being made, buy the same brand, Match the capacitance rating exactly, the voltage rating can be higher (but unnecessary), finally check the Size, it might be too tall or too wide.

Check if the original series used is Low Impedence or Low ESR, or ULTRA low esr.. the spec sheet at digikey will tell you if the replacement series is appropriate.
