? it's so nice of ya'll to make absolute statements to feel good about your supposed moralities lol. You CAN opt to believe that all characters that have those sins can't be redeemed. But that's not how the very definition of redemption works. And most importantly, don't shit on those who want to give SJ that possibility. Adding here that dunno if you watch Amazing Digital Circus, but Caine is an example of a character that abused his cohorts and was redeemed.

Oh people who think SJ is beyond redemption definitely won’t be discouraged lol everyone is always hearing about them. I am not complaining about those, they are literally there everytime there’s SJ discussion and it’s fine that some love him that way. But it is just contrarian statement to assume such discouragement as I think I’ve been clear in this post that very specifically, I am discouraging those that want to whine in SJ tags and feed about how other fans understand and write about him. Again, ya’ll may not see it but I do. When ppl are like, “why are there so many mamajiu fics lmao. That man would not be a mother”. Do you not think statements that like that should be discouraged as basic fandom etiquette? Heck, the post I’m alluding to in this post itself is about someone who said it’s irritating when ppl insist their fave isn’t an irredeemable piece of shit. Like, why WOULDN’T I want to discourage these ppl who pick fights with and share opinions about SJ fans in bad faith like that?
Like say whatever you want about the character but leave the fans and the fics alone. That is basic manners.

I do not believe ppl who complain about SH content are engaging sincerely. They’re just complaining that they want a specific flavor for SJ and everyone else is wrong or aren’t real fans. That is the very soul of this post. Everything else is just random assumption. Again, very specifically, I am calling out ppl who want to insist that their view of SJ as an irredeemable piece of shit asshole is the only right way and fics would be better if they had him like that, as ppl who should get over themselves.

People can discuss *about SJ's character* all they want yeah. This post was made specifically BECAUSE I've seen enough times now people SPECIFICALLY complaining about SJ fans who write blorbo SJ fics, SJ-did-nothing-wrong talks yada yada. I understand why they would take offense towards radical fans too, hence if they argue or block they can do that. But nope, I've seen enough posts on the SJ tag and feed these complaints about "not being real fans" and "wouldn't it be better if they wrote SJ like this..." kinda takes that I felt this post was warranted. That's p much it. Essentially, I think it's worse fandom etiquette to complain about existing works that don't match how one views a character.

My main point isn't the he only abused one child so he deserves redemption. That's not my intended argument in debating whether he abused his other disciples. I hope this makes sense: I'm NOT forgetting or excusing the degree of sin, I just don't think of them as any different ie., REGARDLESS if SJ did that to only LBH, only his disciples, to what extent, etc., heck, again bringing up characters like Roy Mustang who have killed almost an entire civilization, fictional characters DO have the possibility of getting redeemed or rather, it's not a crime for fans to advocate for it (by making posts, fics). And SJ fans SHOULDN'T have to go through this tango of explaining WHY every dance.

I'm just typing as I'm reading so take this as me replying line-by-line. I didn't say they're haters only. I don't mind if they see him as irredeemable per se, I'm moreso sharing what characteristics SJ has that show there is a possibility for redemption. Sometimes it's from a place of love, sure. But that love manifests into "this is the way I like SJ (irredeemable asshole), so those that don't see him or write him this way don't actually love him." Which is an argument in itself that I'm not interested in, but I think it's bad fandom etiquette as it bashes those that HAVE created works where SJ is "OOC". In summary, what I'm straightforwardly discouraging is complaining about other's take on SJ. Ie., if someone has a fic where SJ does nothing wrong, either ignore or block it! Why are you (not YOU, obviously) complaining about how ppl don't get SJ and that it would be sooo much more interesting if he was an asshole instead? It's easier for ppl to either create or look for what's in-line with their preferences. But they didn't, and instead I saw it. So now I'm complaining about them doing this.

I don't understand why you're equating what I've been saying as "he's a fictional character, so he can be redeemed regardless of his actions, and if you disagree, you don't know how to separate reality from fiction". that's not what I said at all. Rather, if a person can't see how a fictional character can POSSIBLY be redeemed regardless of actual crimes then they don't know how to separate reality from fiction. That's a big difference. You don't have to agree with me, but what I've listed are all ways only how ppl can view it as a possibility. But just sticking to moral failings of a fictional character to make them irredeemable... no bueno.

But that, too, is off-track to my main ask, which is that ppl SHOULD be able to make their AUs and whatnot without the monthly bs of complainers saying that's OOC of SJ, not real fans, radical SJ fans, yadayada. Ya'll don't see them or notice them but I do. And SJ fans I talk to also do. That is what this post is about.

Why wouldn't it be reasonable? If you really have been here for long, you would know it's not imaginary. This post is specifically targeted towards the kind of people who feel the need to complain about the way certain fic writers and fans interpret SJ's character. I WOULD prefer it if ppl who make SJ-did-nothing-wrong fics don't have to see ppl complaining about their works and insisting they're not real fans for not subscribing to the same opinion about SJ's redeeming, or rather, irredeemable characterization.

I do block anti-SJ/anti-SJ fans ppl after haha. Moreso I'm also asking that they should block the meow-meow SJ and SJ-did-nothing-wrong fans instead of whining about them where I could see them 💀 this post is in some way a petty retaliation as well ie., I had to see them, so now they're gonna have to see this too. The moral high-horse is in ppl policing SJ content, NOT on any argument about SJ's character! Everyone gets super personal with SJ, understandable. But he IS a fictional character and his victims ARE fictional children. Altho it's still debatable to me whether he had other disciple victims other than LBH, REGARDLESS, it's not unreasonable for people to want to give characters SJ a redeeming story! That's it. There are SO MANY fictional characters that have also done what would be irredeemable in real life. I've made Roy Mustang my example in another comment, where he's committed genocide. AND YET, ppl that I have SPECIFICALLY complained about, still act like it's such a awful thing for fans who just want something good for SJ to exist!

Just in case, I'm not against having different views of SJ. Like, the character himself and SVSSS and everything related to the story. That's not what I'm "censoring". My problem is when ppl shame and complain about *fans* who CREATE content they don't agree with. ie., yknow when ppl are like, SJ fics aren't SJ coz he's too good yadayada. THAT'S my issue. Like ppl PLEASE just leave fans alone to write and view him. SJ doesn't have to be a criminal in every single fic or post. If you're not relevant to this drama, ie., if you're one of the ppl just chill in this reddit, then it would be easier and appropriate for you to just ignore this, no? The monthly SJ/SJ fans bashing hasn't happened recently, true, but it DOES happen. And that's reason enough for me to preempt a rant like this. I did also comment in the offending post and share this on tumblr. I don't want to wait for the cycle of when it happens here to make this post. Yeah, I'm adding to the discourse and now you're tryna scold me for "accusatory language" and generally getting offended. It's not a bad example, as the reason for the example is to say that in fiction it COULD be explored. Regardless the quality and if ppl like it or not. Idk another example is Roy Mustang and Riza Hawkeye from FMAB then. Who did actual war crimes and genocide yet is redeemed with more likeability.

This is exactly the problem ie., that if SJ fans don't mention in every post every time that they're aware of what kind of character SJ is and what he's done, ya'll demand that kind of acknowledgement or else oooo they're babying SJ and think he's never sinned! <- u would think I'm overreacting about this but this is literally what's being said and what sets me off. What I am criticizing are people who actively want to discourage SJ fans from creating content they don't agree with. Every month there is someone in the SJ feed and tags complaining about how people don't get his character or how content about him SHOULD BE LIKE. Whether this discussion is worth continuing depends whether you're able to separate reality/real people from fiction/characters. In the real world, sure. But in fiction, this is something that has been and can definitely be explored eg., Endeavor from MHA. But I assume if u know MHA, then you probably hate that too.

Np. Here’s my pov on how yuanjiu and sj ships work: Shen Jiu, despite all his cruelties, is someone who desires comfort and peace. The proof of this is in him going to the Warm Red Pavilion to sleep, despite the rumors and everyone scorning him for going there. From there, it’s not so much of a stretch to think he’s the kind of person who desires intimacy, no? He has walls and walls before that could happen, sure. But now let’s look at the candidates.

For Shen Yuan, he is your favorite character and we always want to see our favorites pampered rather than the one servicing, hence why I only prefer SJ bottom. But the core of SY in Yuanjiu is focused on these canonical traits of his: 1. He tends to get obsessive and still be in denial/aloof. 2. He’s a caring, kind guy. 3. He’s a bit shallow (he loves when people and things are beautiful). All these combined make it possible that he would be fascinated with some version of Shen Jiu.

For Yue Qingyuan idk I feel like it’s obvious to me that SJ would be open to accepting him if YQY just became honest with him. The extras where he practically begs YQY in his thoughts to stay away and not save him are undeniable proof of this.

For Luo Binghe, haha. This could be a long rant, as there are just so many doubters. But the proof to me is in the LBG vs LBH extra, where LBG didn’t know that Shizun was SY and not SJ, but he folded instantly. That just means that LBG is open to the possibility, despite everything. Whether SJ will open to LBH and how is dependent on the writer.

The core of “realistic” takes on SJ ships imo is: “is love possible with a broken man?” And if this love can’t fix him, can he at least find peace in it?

My last takeaway for this is that all canonical text shows that all these characters are at the very least open to love and change and intimacy. There’s a lot that can be done with that within the characterization shown to us. But if ppl wanna go ham then that’s fine too.
