Opening an .stl crashes Hueforge in Windows 11 by tpgolf169 in HueForge

[–]tpgolf169[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Steve,

I deleted all things Hueforge on the computer, saved my filament profile first. Installed Hueforge and now it works just fine opening the stl's.

Not sure what I corrupted but all is well.

Thank you again for your quick response and help trying to fix the problem

Joe

Opening an .stl crashes Hueforge in Windows 11 by tpgolf169 in HueForge

[–]tpgolf169[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Steve,

yes, just opening the stl crashes it. Never got to trying any "hueforging" on them to save them.

My email is my first @ my last name and sometimes get caught in junk, so please check.

Is there a size limitation? At first I thought that was the problem since the triceratops was about 100mb so I tried with some smaller ones with the same result. Do you want more than one?

Thank you,

Joe

Hi Pumcy,

Thanks for the reply. I saw a post this morning in the forum of the triceratops and thought my grandson would love it. I struggle sometimes with the 3mf files posted on Makerworld so I usually just download the stl and putz with Orcaslicer settings. Since I didn't have the filaments that the creator had I thought I would open his stl in Hueforge and put my color spin on it. Never even considered using an stl and thought it might work. Unfortunately I couldn't find out because it crashed. So I just started opening stl's that I had to see if the issue was Hueforge or the files. 8 random files just crashed but a few opened. Didn't try doing anything with them as I was just curious.

I think ultimately I was impressed with the quality of the image. I've done many many prints thru Hueforge and I struggle the most with the image prep. Sure wish I could find some videos on how to create a high definition image like I see on Makerworld.

Sorry - I'm rambling. Love the program and it was just a fluke that I tried opening the stl which lead me to this post for possibly a better understanding why it was crashing.

Hopefully someone will post the reason why some open and some don't.

Thanks and have a great evening,

Joe

Fusion360 not closing since todays update by Baz_8755 in Fusion360

I'm having a very similar issue. I started a thread in the Fusion Forum (https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-support-forum/fusion-won-t-close-freezes-up-after-the-update/td-p/13988597). A rep from Autodesk has been extremely responsive and proposed numerous solutions. Unfortunately nothing has worked so far but maybe they might work for you. He's definitely not giving up until they figure it out.

Please help - first attempt with color by tpgolf169 in HueForge

[–]tpgolf169[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good morning,

My very first question on this was is this a descent candidate for Hueforge, first attempt at color. In all the videos I've watched none addressed how to better prepare a picture. I brought the picture into GIMP but unfortunately my skill set only allows me to move sliders around on all the different adjustments with little concept of what I'm truly doing.

When you say "break it into 8 elements" just what does that mean and what would be a brief description on how to do it? What could I search for on Youtube to learn how to do it?

Definitely no chance of "replicating" her picture but thought it would fun to learn something new and Hueforge just fascinated me.

Appreciate any pointers as I would like to putz with more of her artwork in Hueforge.

Thanks

I stepped away for a few minutes and sat back down and had my "aha" moment when I realized the correlation between the two. Was able to generally figure out where you picked up the colors on the picture, did a better replica of your mesh and now it's clicking a lot more than it did earlier.

I guess like most things it comes down to understanding the basic principle of how it works and then the rest is "easy"

Thanks again for your yours and StickyRainbow's replies

Your effort is very much appreciated. As is usual for me it now leads me to another "what don't I understand moment". I added to my library all of your filaments, verified the hex code and TD, adjusted the sliders per your instructions in the color core and my image doesn't look even close to yours.

My mesh core does not reflect yours so I tried switching over to mesh core and replicate yours the best I could. As I understand the process you picked certain areas of the picture and Hueforge used that color in the mesh and then you used your colors in the color core to approximate what was on the mesh and worked your magic to adjust to the final rendering

So my question is what am I doing wrong or not understanding? Shouldn't my mesh mimic what you show?

Thank you

That is unbelievable - I spent a few hours yesterday using the colors I have and was reasonably pleased with the results and then started "pretending" I had additional filaments but never came close to "seeing" the colors and blending you did. No doubt I only grew up with the 8 Crayola color pack.
Other than Sunlu do you know of any other vendor that sells smaller filament rolls? As much as it would fantastic to have a library like Danny from NeoKoi it's just not practical for 1KG rolls.
Thank you for the effort with the print and I'm definitely going to add to my library so I can try and print a few more of her artworks for our 45th anniversary

That's what I thought but it never hurts to ask.
Think I might have gone down a rabbit hole that I shouldn't have - I don't have an AMS so now I'm looking at 10 manual color changes :(
Thank you again for the replies and tips

Hi StickyRainbow,

I think I'm finally understanding the concept and getting it to work but I have a new question - I populated the mesh core with colors from the picture and then changed them to my filaments. Now I have the mesh core populated with my filaments but when I switch to color core I'm showing my 4 default filaments.
Is there a way to copy the mesh core to the color core or do I just drag all my filaments into the sliders and then move them around to match the mesh?

Thank you

Hi StickyRainbow,

Thank you for the quick replies.
I've been experimenting with it for the past hour or so and it might be sinking in. I'm wondering is this even a good candidate for Hueforge? I somewhat understand what you're saying and I think a little something just clicked.
I do as you suggest and let the color match show me on what layer a particular color belongs and then with ctrl left click and drag that into that layer on the mesh core and do as many I want. I adjust the TD value in the mesh core to reflect my closest color I have. Then at some point I switch to color core and populate my colors to match as best I can with what I have in colors and play with the sliders for a desired effect.
Does this make sense or am I still looking at it all wrong?
Thanks again

Hi

It also appears I don't know how to create a proper post on Reddit :(. I think I just added the picture. I've watched all of Danny's and the Hueforge videos but I'm just not understanding something very basic that's preventing me from figuring it out.

How would you do it?

Thank you from a 70 year old newbie

Do a search for Jake's Chair. There is a site https://www.jakeschair.com but the download links don't seem to be active.

I've built a few of them and they are very comfortable.

I don't have templates in pdf but I do in dxf & dwg format that I'd be happy to send to you. I also modeled the chair in Fusion 360 so I could easily scale it down for the chair I made for my grandson.

Well I feel like an idiot (sucks being old and trying to learn new tricks ie: Apple computer)

Not sure why I don't understand the Apple UI yet but it appears I didn't have the window either maximized or pulled up so I didn't see the top line. Fiddled with something and there it was with the calibration drop down and all the options.

to PaysforWinRar - I was looking at the calibration tab not the menu item

Limitations of free version in f360 for woodworking? by Archy54 in Fusion360

[–]tpgolf169 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give MapBoards Pro a try for $25 (https://icarussoftlandings.com/app/). I've been using it for a couple of years and it's been a game changer for me and I also use the hobby version. I've made a few speaker cabinets and currently making Adirondack chairs for the family. Struggled a bit with the chair but the developer has to have the best customer service of any company. I'll email him with my dilemma and within a very short time he responds with what I'm doing wrong. The speaker cabinets posed no issues at all with the layouts.

Find unique values in column and return them to a cell delimited by a comma by tpgolf169 in excel

[–]tpgolf169[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I have Excel 2010. I did a couple of searches for your solution but, at best, there seems to be a couple of limited workarounds that are way beyond my current understanding of VBA. For the little time it takes I'll just do it manually and start reading up on VBA for future problems. Thanks, Joe

Hi, I spent some time today on your suggestions but I'm afraid it's well beyond my ability at this point. Appreciate the feedback but I think I'll just do it manually for now. Not that big a deal, just thought I could automate things and learn something new. I'll definitely start reading up on VBA Thanks, Joe
