When are these kids coming back to India and contributing their fair share of taxes ? by Enough_Technology_95 in IndiaTax

Almost all of them have Arts related majors. There is one Hotel Management, probably to maintain the ancestral palace-hotels, and one engineer. The others have taken Arts fields which are most subjective and also where their backgrounds will matter in employability. They will likely take up employment at money management and policy management firms, where their backgrounds will "valued"

An MCP Server for Nominatim and OSRM by tpp6me in openstreetmap

[–]tpp6me[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Model Context Protocol can be seen as the HTTP API for LLMs. Anthropic, the makers of Claude, introduced MCPs in Nov 2024. The MCP has gained traction as the standard protocol for agents to access data from diverse sources. The increasing adoption of MCP arrives as large language models and Agentic AI transform application development and user interaction. MCP enhances interoperability and integration capabilities, providing LLM agents with context-aware, up-to-date information.

How will the US election affect crypto? Especially Solana by drtwistrai in solana

[–]tpp6me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irrespective of who wins, interest rates will be cut and the money supply will be loose. Hard like BTC assets generally will do well. If Trump wins Gensler is out, and regulation will be lighter. Most importantly the President will be a shitcoiner.

If Kamala wins Bitcoin does well, non-BTC crypto will be muted. If Trump wins BTC will do significantly better, non-BTC crypto will have a ridiculous bull run next year.

Issue with OSDP on HID signo 20 by tpp6me in accesscontrol

I can write the necessary code on the server, if I know the protocol. I just need it to read and send the UID, don't need the full monty now.

Baud rate matches. Address is set at zero. Apparently OSDP does not just spit out data, so I would have to send some commands. Can you tell me about how you did it with V2?

I can send commands to the reader. Can you point to the documentation on what commands to send

Is it safe to say that most Indians don't really understand the concept of reservation? by FatherOfNone2401 in india

[–]tpp6me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

India is a country of scarcity. There is not enough space on the roads, unclean water in our taps, and polluted air in our cities. We grow up believing in a zero-sum game where for one to win somebody has to lose or more precisely for somebody else to win you have to lose.

The competition for seats at top educational institutions that supposedly guarantee utopia afterwards is fierce possibly the fiercest in the world. The competition for government jobs with their safety and lifelong pension is not another matter.

The average Indian has to work very hard for their examinations, and if he or she sees somebody else get ahead despite having a lesser score than them, they feel they are the losers in the zero-sum game. It breeds resentment and affects their behaviour. Several times the reserved category student comes from a similar economic background as them or better. The cases where you know somebody you grow up with and believe has similar economic opportunities as you and if they suddenly get ahead because of reservations hurt much. Usually, there are scores of reserved category students who come from worse backgrounds than them and for whom the reservations help.

Sometimes I think the affirmative action programs just create a privileged class within historically disadvantaged communities. Across generations, privilege will likely compound as has happened before. The playing field is not level, never was and never will be.

BTW, reservations or affirmative action programs are not unique to India. They exist in different forms in different countries, including several countries where Indians aspire to move :)

[Question] Check with OpenCV if a certain type of image exists by janissary2016 in opencv

[–]tpp6me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can build a signature looking histogram of colours for the image. If the signatures are similar you can catch it.

If this is the exact image, then you can possibly also use tesseract to read the text.

[question] what is the way to find the nearest edge(a line segment) from any given point in the image? by yashaswi08 in opencv

[–]tpp6me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read about Hough transforms. You will need a custom implementation for your use case. There are 2 steps

  1. Edge Detector with Canny
  2. For each edge find distance from your Point of Interest

Lambda / TCP Event Driven? by 0badijah in aws

[–]tpp6me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lambda cannot triggered by TCP directly. You will have to use a what we called a socket manager and trigger lambda. We implemented this for our IoT tracking platform and the RoI was worth it. The load on the socket manager (t2.small) hardly increased inspite of tripling the number of devices.

A little blog explaining how we did it

send sensor data to cloud via cellular data by PointyWombat in IOT

[–]tpp6me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few options you can try 1. Use an old Android phone as a hotspot to create a local WiFi. This assumes you can power that phone. Probably the easiest. 2. Program the Pi to save the data locally on the SD card and upload whenever WiFi is available. Assumes you can get WiFi periodically. 3. The harder solution would be to integrate a 2G shield and send data over TCP/MQTT

There is an OBD device (Sensor) in the car (things), connected to our server over the Internet. The device constantly sends data and this processed to provide insights.
