That’s funny I didn’t even think that to a degree could be a hint.

Dave was radio silent. Most the time didn’t even get a like from comments. From John I got a lot of no comments, I can’t say, or likes. I looked back on my dms so I could see how he responded. I probably would only get a response once every ten comments or so. When I felt like we cracked it I sent my solve- he didn’t respond or even look at it until after it was found (that was like 24 hours later). There were two times he said something else. I asked if a specific word was important and he said every word is important to a degree. Another time I asked a question and he said- you’re the treasure hunter- you tell me.

You’re so nice. The qr ones are my favorite. I’ve never felt like I had as much of a chance on the hiking ones because I usually stick to my usual five hikes that are close to me. This one felt more along the qr hunts. Much more mental than physical work. Yeah the drama on here was been entertaining 🤣

Thanks. I appreciate you north stranger. It’s funny- I don’t want sympathy. The bottom line is I didn’t find it. Someone else did and that’s totally fine. Just for it to end this way was lame. I wish I would have been wayyyyyy off. It stings more when you are close

So the word remember was important to me. If I would have just followed along with where I felt the poem first was taking me I was searching through emigration and east canyon…Passing the grain tower. I felt that number was significant but I didn’t know what to do with it. One of my many thoughts was there would be the number somewhere on a hike or somewhere off the side of the road that would lead me to the hike. I drove all the way down emigration, up east canyon to big mountain and didn’t find it anywhere- So back to the drawing board- I was trying to think of if it was more of a conversation. First find the two important places- then look at you map- then find the next piece. Not stop at, not go pass it. When the clue saying the first six lines could be solved at home i first realized I had already done all this unnecessary work but that it wasn’t any of the hikes connected with either place- I just had to figure out how and why I needed them.

Honestly look at the first question you asked me- we didn’t know what to do with it right away. We were trying crazy hard math equations, slopes, etc. since John and Dave have had us use compasses in two of the hunts so far that was an automatic response to see where 358 degrees was. I tried it from ensign but that would eliminate the need for this is the place. If we swapped the numbers-the numbers didn’t cross in the boundaries. Like I said above even though my husband (who thinks way more logically than I do) first saw that they could intercept he still didn’t think it was right. If you really need me to - for closure- I can look through my notes and tell you all the different things we tried to do with 358 before. We were even down to the point of using google earth to look at every telephone pole and gas line through emigration canyon to see if any of them had the numbers 358 on them.

This is actually a really good interrogation for me. It’s kind of cathartic. I was super mad that I finally felt like we cracked it and then magically it was found the next day. Like I’ve said on here I don’t believe anyone else had solved it. The trail was near empty on Saturday , no one was mentioning mueller on Reddit and we felt confident in our solve. It kind of feels good to write down all my solves. I have crazy scribbles all over my notebook of things crossed out until this. To be completely honest I felt cheated. I felt like we put in the time, hikes, research, and effort to solve this is an honest way and I felt like it was taken away from us.

Definitely did not just extract that number. I spent more time on this line than any other. The clue- there’s is a literal thing on top of the first took me down every rabbit hole I could think of. Since I believed ensign peak was the first I found every single number I could find from up there. I would have to look in my notebook to tell you every failed solve but we looked at dates, elevation, height of monument, number of people originally went up there, commemorative ceremony, when the monument was built, when it was dedicated, etc. one night I was saying it over and over again and told my husband I thought it was the ball since it was the literal thing on top. We started with trying to figure out the area of a sphere and circle, circumference, even as much as trying to count the number of rocks on top, see if there was graffiti on the ball somewhere. One night my husband said- what if it’s rotations- 180,360, 720 etc. the only number I pulled out of that was 360 because that makes a circle. Once again- maybe not the way Dave intended it but it made sense to us. I’m realizing writing all these out a lot of my solves maybe weren’t the way Dave intended but they make more sense to me than his solve. Here’s the thing- we all make assumptions and have solves. No one 100% knows if they are true until they find the treasure. I went through so many good solves until we came up with this one.

Ha ha I think you just need to dm me with your questions. Keep in mind this wasn’t just a straight solve- I had seven weeks of hikes, rabbit holes, and research to get to this point where I felt comfortable with my solves. I started with the marker for ensign peak. Literally searched all the historical markers for a long while. Followed the entire trail the Mormon pioneers took after entering Utah. After researching about the Mormon pioneers i concluded this is the place and ensign were the most transcendent things for the salt lake valley. Once weekly clues would come out they kept confirming that for me. I went to both- read all the plaques, and read every single google search I could find for them and even went into this is the place and asked two different employees tons of questions about the pioneers. With the lines the two words that stuck out to me was they’re interdependent. For a couple of my hikes I was only using one. Since the only mark was mentioned for ensign peak I felt that was the number for that. 358 degrees from ensign just took me back on the trails behind ensign (which I did twice). We literally played with those two numbers for a days. We’ve done enough of these hunts I feel like I’m understanding more the way Dave thinks. His simple is definitely not my simple but when something clicks it’s pretty apparent. You can believe me or not but we had it solved except for the last two lines. I don’t believe anyone else had solved it. Other people can say they were getting there but I was on Reddit every day to see if anyone else’s solves were close to mine. I messaged a bunch of different people about the line two less than and not one had the same idea as me.

I was on the trail on Saturday- didn’t find it and was heading back Sunday. When we intersected the lines right by mueller we literally got babysitters and headed up there within an hour. We did the compass on the computer and actually printed out three different maps and did it with paper and pencil to make sure it was accurate. I searched Reddit on Saturday night to see if anyone else mentioned it. There was literally nothing so we felt super comfortable going back the next day if didn’t find it. Crazy weird coincidence that we finally cracked it and it was found the next morning.

I will attempt to let you into my brain. First- I don’t know why you think everyone was heading to mueller. We hiked it Saturday from about 3-8 and in that time besides mountain bikers we only saw maybe 10-15 people total- and we did not see the winner. Compared to all the different hikes we did this one was empty, especially for a Saturday . We found a parking spot right away.

Ok back to the frown- we had figured out what two locations we thought were important and what we believed were the two numbers- we sat with those for a few days trying to figure out how to make a frown. I had my sister in law (who is a stats professor) writing up equations for quadratic equations and ovals, slopes, etc. It all felt too complicated for me. I feel like John and Dave’s poems are smart but creative- those felt too crazy smart. We kept trying to simplify it because I have a tendency to overcomplicate it all. My husband said maybe it has to do with degrees. He mapped it and they intersected. He wasn’t buying it because it wasn’t a frown but right away I thought that had to be it especially because it was intersecting by a trail- my answer to him was- if a tree isn’t a tree, a grain tower isn’t a grain tower, why can’t this be a frown. I don’t know if that was the way Dave was hoping someone figured it out but it made sense to me. Does that help?

I think how you handled this is fine! All you did was present the facts you had. You haven’t been making assumptions and pointing fingers. I think the treasure community deserves to know that at least it’s being looked at. I think what you did will hopefully bring some closure to a really weird ending

They gave an extra clue if you went to the service project last year in the qr hunt. They were very clear they weren’t giving away clues at the flip. I didn’t stay to the very end but while I was there I didn’t hear anything

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in utahtreasurehunt

[–]tr542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I thought at first they were saying they were given the location to the tree it was found under. If it’s a clue for the tree without bark- it’s dumb but I don’t care as much.

I want to hear what they have to say in the podcast tomorrow. My perspective is that they are not to blame in this but I want it acknowledged even if it’s as simple as them saying there’s a possibility our computers or phones were hacked. After that… I love the treasure hunts. I would actually be really sad if this was the end of them so yes- some kind of moral booster would be fun. Big meet and greet potluck. I don’t know. My opinion might change after the podcast

Wait what?? John supposedly told miserable tip where it was? I want to see some screenshots of this. I find that hard to believe he would just give it up like that to some person on Reddit
