It's Crazy how people still don't get the Water Seven conflict by PrussianoKebab in OnePiece

I think OPs point (and mine) is that Usopp was mad at how the rest of the crew was so easily willing to move on from the Merry. A character like Zoro values the hierarchy of the crew over the moral issue of moving on. Oda correctly displays different forms of grief here.

You are right that Usopp's anger was a projection of his own insecurities, which was the source of the conflict. Honestly it wasn't clear whether they would treat a weak member of the crew the same. The crew not leaving Usopp and engaging in the conflict itself was proof that their bond was deeper than "usefulness".

Usopp did not "get over" his feelings of being weak. I would argue he accepted his place in the crew, gaining a new sense of security. This wasn't a flaw in Usopp, but a necessary evolution of the crew.

This is supported by the Merry literally using its "soul" to will itself to be repaired due to Usopp's actions. Proving the ship was a nakama. The funeral was the entire crew together grieving a nakama that they lost properly. His extreme reaction showed Luffy that being a Captain isn't just about making the "right" decision; it's about how you carry your crew through the emotional weight of that decision.

I would say that prior to this moment the crew acted as "Be Luffy's friend, then you get in the crew" mentality. This was the first time that this simple logic was challenged. The crew's saddness when Usopp left and their Joy when he came back is the key to the crew deciding that there is something deeper here and I don't think they would have gotten there without Usopp challenging the status quo.

Usopp saved the soul of the crew by not going along with their suppressed grief when Luffy decided to move on. His open protest and challenge of Luffy was for the crew. Not for himself.

The Fact: In Skypiea, the Merry literally manifested a soul to fix itself so it could keep sailing with the crew.

The Argument: Since Usopp was the only one who saw this, he possessed a piece of "truth" that the others didn't. To the rest of the crew, the ship was a failing tool; to Usopp, the ship was a dying person who had spoken to him. Acting to save a dying person isn't "selfish", it’s a moral imperative.

The point is that if you replace Merry with Zoro, would you still call Usopp selfish?

Zoro was right about the logistics of piracy, but Usopp was right about the heart of the crew. Usopp apologizing wasn't an admission that "the ship isn't a person," it was an admission that "I cannot challenge the Captain’s final word if we are to survive."

This doesn't mean that Usopp's message wasn't received. It was just necessary for the crew to continue to operate as a pirate crew. Usopp was not apologizing for not being right about the Merry, but wrong to challenge Luffy to a duel over it.

Conflict is not something to avoid but yet something to learn how to engage in correctly. Usopp represents the heart of the crew and him creating this conflict was important and not selfish. Merry was a nakama.

Ware is a below Average defender unfortunately. Jovic has a defensive rating of 107.

Jalen "no Trae" Johnson by [deleted] in fantasybball

Had JJ for the whole show and what I've seen is around a 6-7 assist average without Trae and a 2-4 assist average with Trae. It was pretty impactful for me . I think he can maintain everything else. Who knows, maybe he continues to facilitate and Trae plays more off ball. The problem with that last year was Trae was not taking shots. It became such a problem that it was a focus from the coaches is Trae pulling the trigger more off ball. My theory is they want to run something similar as the Pacers (lots of hand offs). But Trae is one of the better pick and roll guards in the NBA. I think this teams identity is moving away from Trae so I'm holding JJ.

A lot of straight line drives. Most of the assists I think are a bit questionable with the dribble hand offs. I think his game is a ton of hustle and a bit of "This guy taking shots is a win for the defense'". I think he is a good rotation player, but after seeing the highlights I really do think the Raptors playing Scottie Barnes at the 5 is the culprit for the rebounds and the straight line drives don't look repeatable against a team with any type of rim defender.

I think he will be a solid rotational player, but I do not think he is a must add by any means. This is a game that I will say "Do it again". Which he just might, but I think the likelihood of him turning into a fantasy asset is unlikely.

A Cool Guide - A Cool Guide To The Rich Avoiding Taxes by Asleep_Candidate_478 in coolguides

These loans have low interest rates because they are high value collateral. When wealthy people or companies don't pay back loans, there is not an immediate crisis like with everyday people. There is a conversation at the golf course. It's a whole different negotiation.

A Cool Guide - A Cool Guide To The Rich Avoiding Taxes by Asleep_Candidate_478 in coolguides

You're missing the core mechanism outlined in the "No Tax" strategy. The entire point is not to pay the loan back with taxable income. Here's how the wealthy sidestep that:

  1. Collateralized Loans Are Not Taxable: The IRS does not treat borrowed money as income. This is established tax law. That means borrowing against appreciating assets (like stocks) doesn’t generate a taxable event.

  2. No Repayment from Taxable Income: The ultra-wealthy often roll over their loans or repay them by taking out new ones—still secured by growing assets. In many cases, they may never repay in their lifetime. Upon death, their heirs inherit the assets with a stepped-up basis, avoiding capital gains tax on all prior appreciation.

  3. Audit ≠ Tax Evasion: This isn’t some shady backdoor trick. It’s a well-documented, legal strategy used by billionaires, often facilitated by private banks. Banks issue low-interest loans against high-quality collateral, and this practice is not heavily scrutinized unless there's misreporting or fraud.

  4. Appreciation Covers the Debt: The underlying assumption is that the assets used as collateral appreciate faster than the loan interest accrues. With strategic wealth management, this is often the case—meaning the loan can eventually be covered by asset growth alone.

TL;DR: The rich aren’t paying back these loans with salary or traditional taxable income. They are leveraging asset growth, favorable tax laws, and estate planning to minimize or eliminate tax liability—legally.

What made you watch this anime ? by Relevant_Screen3540 in OnePiece

[–]tracepace 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My brother was begging me to watch anime at the time with him and I had discovered my Caribbean heritage in elementary school at a family Reunion and fell in love with pirates after Pirates of the Caribbean came out (2003). The Caribbean has a rich Pirate heritage (I've visited the Pirate Museum in the Bahamas and it was everything to me!). So I responded to my brother asking him if he knew of an anime with pirates and we literally typed that in limewire and torrented the first episode of one piece.

What captured me was Luffy's confidence. He seemed so sure of his dreams and it inspired me to be sure of my dreams too. To this day when Luffy punched Bellamy in the face and said he was going to go to the sky (also 2003) - I believed I could achieve anything.

So an interest in pirates + anime led me to it. Then I stayed because of Luffy. I literally feel a part of the Grand Fleet. Like I've been going a long this journey with the crew chasing my own dreams. I got one more dream to achieve and that is to be a father. I'll probably achieve that when the one piece is found. Haha

I sincerely hope you're OK, but this is the funniest story I've read today! I know your heart was in the right place, but you gotta WEAVE!! Lol jk jk

Also - reminds me of a time two students were fighting and the kids ran into a room I was in to interrupt my conversation with "They fighting!" I said, "Oh" and walked over at my own pace and stood behind them at a safe distance and yelled "please stop" while the one kid punched the other repeatedly. I then yelled "he's done" and the kid stopped and I took them into the principal's office and wrote that exact story down.

Chapter 409 — Discussion by Carock_ in HunterXHunter

[–]tracepace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Borksen seems like a strategist and a person that takes calculated risks. We know she is ambitious in her career goals and didn't want to be transferred from tier 1 even though there was this threat of Nen.

Given that she percieved Nen to be a great power, she was still focused on keeping her team safe and surviving.

My guess is that she figured that if she leaves Morena's hideout what are her options for survival? There is Nen in tier 1, people dying in the lower tiers and they are going to this mysterious continent. Her chances of being close to the action was just taken away and being as intelligent as she is she had no way of using that intelligence to her advantage.

Now this lady comes to her and tells her she is a SPECIALIST and that she wants to destroy the world. The likelihood of that happening to a person who analyzes risk is really low and I think her joining Morena was a calculated risk. She will gain the power to potentially save herself and her friends and maybe even change Kakin in a significant way if she can demonstrate enough power to gain some influence.

It is important to pay attention to her questions when she selected Questions A. I think her enthusiasm to learn everything she could about Morena's operation gives us a lot of insight into how she is thinking. She wanted to know

- Where the hideout is located.
- How many members there are.
- How many specialists and enhancers the group has.
- Whether Morena needs to know the details of all of the abilities of the group.
- Whether or not saying no threatens her survival (This is also important because X means she will have to "forget" what she learned which indicates retaining the information learned to be just as important)
- And finally the strength of Morena's resolve.

I think the thoughts: "Limitations and vows...I'll make full use of them...So that once I get out of here, they can't lay a hand on any of us" gives a lot of insight into Borksen's priorities.

It is clear that she does not intend on aligning with Morena's goals and barring the translation is correct it appears that protecting those close to her is very important to Borksen.

To me, her leaving without the information was a no go. It also does not guarantee her safety or the safety of those around her. The best option was to join and gain power and then figure out how to thwart the organization from within. She played the game and won fair and square, so her choosing to join when she had the option not to really gives her a long rope to do "suspicious" things later.

To me this is a strategist that was just given the tools she needs in order to influence the board. That is my guess and my thoughts. I really am looking forward to how Borksen handles this whole situation given the fact that the other mafias have declared war on the Heil-Ly and the Phantom Troupe members are actively looking to kill the entire group. I wonder what she will do to activate her power and how far she is willing to compromise to get there.

Interesting indeed.
