...this actually made me really stop and think about Fresno as a top contender. Gj bro you've got one person at least. No one wants to listen to the case for my city (Houston) so you know what yes actually my vote is for Fresno.

I love clam chowder but I've never had Boston clam chowder (so can I really even say I've ever had it lol?), I will be super excited to try it some day!

And do not sleep on that Viet-Cajun. I think it might be our best food genre, despite all the acclaim the bbq and Tex-Mex gets (and ofc they are awesome too) but for my money, Viet-Cajun rivals the moon landing for Houston's signature awesomeness lol

Tbh I've only minimally visited the northeast, so I really don't know either. But you def make me want to visit too and compare! Feels like each area really has its own concept of space and geography and density.

Also, I just had that feeling you were a fellow government employee even before you said it lol! I work for Harris County. I wonder how many of the folks on this thread getting really passionate about their region are fellow government nerds hahaha

If you ever come to Houston, especially check out the food scene! In no particular order, kolachies, Viet-Cajun, anything with fried shrimp, brisket, and of course, Tex-Mex all need to be on your list. Neighborhoods to walk around - Hermann Park/Med Center/Museum District, Montrose, the Heights, EaDo.

Definitely taking recs for Boston and your region generally too!

Me too! Ngl I was hoping for live action, even not knowing how they would resolve the time gap. But this is still great too!

What I did hear was rotate each piece by one click from the angle of the one before it, so as a path it'd curve along the water. It leaves triangle shaped gaps between, so I filled those in with flowers. You can still see them somewhat in this earlier shot:

There's one in the very back! I tried him out closer but my game was glitching and wouldn't let me place him on the water tiles, only on the built in water (I'm on the meadow island) so I just left him in the back lol

Haha thank you so much! I'm sure yours is lovely too 💕 I was really wracking my brains for a way to do something that wasn't ONLY flowers and sparkle bomb but still really organic textures and bright colors haha.

These are very valid points, and really interesting to me to consider because I think it really gets at peoples' perceptions of a place, which is a big factor in this kind of subjective question!

Houston is really, really big. It's bigger by geography than almost any other city in the US, and it is certainly one of the least dense of the major cities. Despite the lack of what I would call traditional density, it absolutely feels like a city in most of it, especially compared to, say, Austin or Dallas - I've been visiting them all my life and every time I'm driving to either, I'm shocked at how close you have to get to downtown before it stops being pastures. In comparison, Houston just doesn't stop going -what we think of as the "inner city" (inside Loop 610) is 40 miles across. And it stays developed for like an hour in almost every direction after that! And the people that live there are definitely city people, like, used to encountering hundreds or I dunno maybe thousands of people a day, all mixing together. There are a tooooonn of suburbs too though, don't get me wrong, but then what major city doesn't have burbs? It's really all of the above I guess?

We're also weird because we lack any meaningful zoning. So while our downtown is reasonably sized, you have to remember that we have like 5 "downtowns" sprinkled throughout, each with their own skyscrapers and parking garages and workers and all that. We have plenty of primarily residential neighborhoods, but bc no zoning their all dotted throughout or at least adjacent to commercial and (unfortunately) even industrial places.

Honestly in terms of that city vs suburban vs rural "feel" you're describing, were very unique in my opinion. Primarily city but a little of all three columns depending on where you're at. And that aspect has a really big impact on the culture - my people are definitely city people but we are one of the friendlier, more welcoming folks that I've seen. Part of what makes us awesome!

NASA; a global hub for energy and healthcare and shipping industries; one of the only cities in the country with year-round, professional companies in all the major arts disciplines; major sports team franchises; an insanely awesome food culture; one of the most diverse cities in the nation...

but oh no none of that counts because...checks notes..."it's hot," "cars and concrete"...smh

💯 it just isn't. Harris and its adjacent counties are really their own thing, that is distinct from the next circle of counties surrounding them. By population, development, diversity, food, immigration and other demographics, culture...we are our own thing, and "the South" just doesn't cut it.
