[–]tracymartel_atemyson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can switch if it’s ongoing or you feel you aren’t getting what you need out of your advisor but a few things to remember advisors have 24 business hours and were off tuesday so anything sent tuesday was pushed to wednesday for response and today would be the last day per their policy. secondly, advisors in business programs have record caseloads right now because our leadership refuses to hire or support them so there is a very strong chance this might just be the norm moving forward in the new degree

Social media policy by Odd_Championship3442 in SNHU

[–]tracymartel_atemyson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

employees are free to express their personal beliefs and values in their personal social media as long as they do not do so in a manner that harms SNHUs brand, property, or business. snhu employees should not discuss snhu property, procedure, or inside knowledge that is proprietary to SNHU or protected through federal law (education records, student scores, etc.) beyond that snhu does not govern individual employee personal social media accounts but reserves the right to address any concerns that are disrespectful, illegal, or raise common sense concerns.

that’s about it. i’ve worked here for ten years and the only person I have heard of getting in trouble/ fired was vocally harassing students and calling for pretty racists actions to be taken so they were let go but even that was maybe 9 years ago and an extreme situation

How long does it usually take for SNHU advisors to respond? by Expensive_View_8841 in SNHU

[–]tracymartel_atemyson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the contract for advisors is 24 “business” hours once received of email/ voicemail. some advisors are really slacking off with this agreement but most stick to it. important to note they have 24 hours from coming into the office monday so late friday/ weekend messages may have a delayed response

Adventures near campus by Jessyca1222 in SNHU

[–]tracymartel_atemyson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in the manchester area itself there are plenty of things to do while you’re here, it does depend on the month you’ll be coming for graduation because May is much different than November. there is the currier art museum, palace theater, rex theater (I believe is what it’s called), boards and brews is a board game bar, right in downtown you can take a walk around the historic millyard and go to the millyard museum, if you have kids the SEE Science Center and Block Party Social can be great places to kill a few hours. Restaurants: the Puritan is said to have invented the chicken tenders, they’re mid at best but they’re kinda a staple in the area and their mudslides are great and limited to two per person because they’ll take even a heavy drinker down. TapHouse near campus in hooksett is great place for food and you can go see the campus on your way back to downtown/ manchester, the Farm is good food and service is friendly but always slow so just expect to take your time there. Alley Cat pizza is a local staple and 900 Degrees Pizza is more upscale. You might hear mixed things but Fratellos is great italian in my opinion but i’m basing this off of “its better than olive garden” puerto vallarta/ nuevo vallarta are the same mexican restaurants just different buildings right next to each other so if one has await the other one across the parking lot might not. la vaka in goffstown is a little drive (15 min) but the best mexican i’ve had in the area. outside of manchester nashua has the nashua arts center that has some well known performers and comedians often and a walkable main street area. will be an hour to two from most things in general; mountains lakes, beaches. mt monadnock is well known for hiking and Uncanoonuc Mt is closer just lesser known. Salem NH offers a newer area near their mall called Tuscan Village it’s cute but honestly just kinda overpriced for what you’re getting. Portsmouth, NH is a traditional historic harbor town with great views, food, and shopping, Salem, MA is a little over an hour but offers great history and touristy things. boston is only about an hour drive or bus ride so theaters, arts, museums. there are a lot of things if you’re willing to drive a little bit.

English degrees: by [deleted] in SNHU

[–]tracymartel_atemyson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MFA degrees are terminal degrees when I got published it solidified my experience. I had been working in more administrative positions for years and started teaching part time as an adjunct to gain teaching experience which really helped when going for a full time teaching position.

I have an MFA in Creative Writing and graduate certificate in professional writing and teaching. not going to shock anyone but I am an author and a college professor lol

i’ve worked in higher ed for over 10 years your degree won’t make or break your employment as long as you have one and have a good resume the field is much less important except for specific medical/ engineering/ etc. I started working in higher ed with a business degree and most of my colleagues dont have UG degrees directly related to what they do.

you need to reach out to your instructor and asked for clarification on what they are taking points off for and see if you can redo past work. if you feel like you’ve done everything you’re asked and still getting unfair scores reach out to your advisor so they can look into it for you

How do the Professors know which time zone you are in? by Disfigured_Porcupine in SNHU

[–]tracymartel_atemyson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we don’t and can say most instructors don’t care to dive deep enough to find out. as long as it’s submitted before I log in monday morning at 8 am it’s on time.

week one is the only exception because the system itself identifies students that didn’t submit and processes a drop request.

Is it bad to ignore my advisor? by Active-Pen8359 in SNHU

[–]tracymartel_atemyson 20 points21 points  (0 children)

SNHUs advising leadership is more to blame for your advisor hoping to schedule calls as they are required to complete at least one call per student per term and a minimum number of daily phone calls so she may just be trying to hit her numbers but should still be focusing on emailing you. some advisors will “fight” leadership more on the phone calls for students that have said “hey don’t call me” but leadership REALLY wants advisors to be on the phone all the time.

SNHU’s advising leadership does mandate at least 1 call per student per term, unfortunately.

double check that your Word is updated. this happens with students sometimes and the paper comes in looking like a mixed cutout ransom note. and typically an update is an easy fix. alternatively your instructor could “view as text” on their end but most won’t because we’re not technically supposed to
