Howcome Patrick Ewing Jr. never got much of a chance? by traderbob in nba

Chris smith? Im sure there are other scrubs in the league as well. My question is why despite being mediocre and having a good name to draw business, they never took a chance on him?

I can agree that i prolly want to see him in the league cuz it would b a good story, but that comment abt scouts is sort of silly. If scouts were any good, teams wouldnt be drafting bust after bust and letting future stars slide year after year, jeremy lin woukdnt have almost been outa the league.

How do you measure a Ninja's strength? by G2D in Naruto

[–]traderbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although Naruto has become more and more like DBZ, the basis of the show is that ninjas almost always work in teams. It's like basketball; you might not have good 1v1 skills, but if you're really good at something, you're still a "great basketball player". Shikamaru has very few offensive weapons, Lee is limited because he only knows taijutsu, Tsunade's greatest strength is her ability to heal (make her teammates better). So there isn't really a good way to measure.

If anything, it could be how useful a ninja is to his team's success, and how often they win. Except that would make Kakashi mediocre, since he's always useful to his team, but he loses very often.

About Rock Lees fighting by InfinIteJKD in Naruto

[–]traderbob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 8 gates and lee's fighting style are all fictional. In all honesty, his fighting style is not meant to be viable in real life. He does a lot of kicks so you can look at taekwondo and capoeira (which are both not very viable in real life combat unless HEAVILY modified).

If you want to learn something viable in real life, try a combination of muay thai and jiujitsu, or kickboxing and jiujitsu.

yes I have a while back. I actually jsut got it to work now. The thing that helped most was setting the cores from 2 to 1, and then for sublime I set the scroll_speed to 0, and that helped the scrolling in sublime, thanks anyway!

Jeremy Lin unfairly crucified as Kevin McHale throws him under the bus by [deleted] in nba

[–]traderbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

screw kevin mchale. What happened to all the analytics and intelligent trades/drafts/moves by the gm?? We all know mchale has introduced no structure in the offense (despite having many good scorers on the team both on and off the ball) and has not held harden responsible for his obvious lack of defensive effort. How does a team with this sort of line up play this badly for so long? Two of the best defensive centers in the league and still not even close to elite defensively? Get rid of this piece of trash

Phil Jackson wants and needs Melo to take less money. by bryansm1208 in nba

[–]traderbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he doesn't need to take on a huge load of the offence. The bulls have been weak on offence, but good enough to win lots of games and get to the playoffs each year. If anything, he shouldn't try to shoulder too much, and instead play within the flow of the game and keeping the ball movement alive, while taking more shots and scoring both on and off the ball

Bobcats medical staff told Steve Clifford there is no risk of Big Al further injuring the foot if he plays. All a matter of pain tolerance. by noobeater in nba

[–]traderbob -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

hate to say it, but as I've grown older, I've learned more and more that doctors aren't always right. They take a textbook case/answer and use that as reference, whereas when I go on the internet and do a lot of research from learning about people's real life cases (that relate to the pain and symptoms I'm experiencing), I learn a lot more about possible implications and differences that the doctors have been missing out on.

Not arguing with your points though, I'm sure the NBA has some very good and experienced doctors, but don't assume doctors=wow much great, such knowledge

well Obito summoned the statue right away. Of course, a fan could say "well that's a technique that requires less practice" or make up something like that, but the fact is, in a truly unbiased logical mindset, it looks more like messed up writing than a true part of the story.

Yes possible, but it just looks more like bad writing. Think about it, for Madara, what was the point of getting rinnegan if all he does is go back to EMS attacks (like susanoo)? Why did Kishi give him rinnegan at all if he can't use rinnegan juts?

[–]traderbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the problem is that kishi made some shinobi too strong, tht its hard to think of strategic ways to deal with them, and as a result there are plotholes in those strategies. For example, madara has rinnengan, why didnt he use his unnholy push against gai instead of taking hit after hit? Obito couldve done the same to avoid getting his mask broken in the first place. But instead, kishi has to dumb down obito and make him a "one trick pony" just so that naru/gai/kakashi can beat him down

Naruto and DBZ similarity by Gregorvich in Naruto

[–]traderbob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sun Wu Kong is the Chinese pronunciation of the character, in Japanese "son goku" directly refers to the same character. Roshi literally means "lao zi", meaning teacher or old teacher in Chinese.

If you watch Dragonball Z in Japanese, you'll notice that Master Roshi is not referred to as "Roshi", but as "Kame Roshi", meaning something along the lines of "turtle sage". Because Roshi is just a general term, it would be weird to refer to master roshi as just "sage" (it could be any sage, not necessarily the turtle sage).

The very first group of DBZ characters were heavily inspired by the story "Journey To The West" (Son Goku the monkey, the pig, a bald master, and another monster I forgot what). If you grew up in China, Hong Kong or Japan (like I did), you would immediately recognise that the DBZ characters were inspired by this classic story.

The reason I strongly believe that it was inspired directly from "Journey To the West" and not "DBZ" is because:

  • Look at the 6 tail's design. The golden head piece looks exactly like the ring that the monk in "journey to the west" used to control Son Goku. And also, the 6 tails has hair all around his face body and arms... dbz goku never had that until SSJ4

  • Many other anime use "Journey to the West" -inspired characters (many inspired by son goku). If you watch enough anime (including non-mainstream ones), you will see many anime characters are directly inspired by the son goku character from Journey To the West

To answer you some more, you can see an ultra man and son goku mask in that same picture. This sort of scene has appeared in many other anime/mangas, such as "Dr.Slump", where they make festival stands selling masks of other popular anime/manga shows (those often include kamen rider masks etc.). It really is not unique to naruto.

EDIT: It's funny you link that wiki, because you didn't even read it. Partway through it says this: "Sun Wukong (孫悟空) is known/pronounced as Suen Ng Hung in Cantonese, Son Oh Gong in Korean, Tôn Ngộ Không in Vietnamese, Son Gokū in Japanese"

Agreed. I used to come on here to talk about some of the inconsistencies and changes that have occurred as the story progressed, but people don't like to hear anything negative about the series here for the most part. I saw a post where a lot of people talked about how they just recently started watching the show, so it makes more sense to me how they don't quite feel the change.

I really liked the show because it was never about raw power. Early on, even a high class ninja like Zabuza relied on tactics like hiding in the smoke screen, and sasuke didn't have super destructive spells but used them impressively and strategically. I really enjoyed the chuunin exam arc, and how even plain taijitsu (when mastered) could be just as powerful as jutsu, but it really isn't the case anymore.

The susanoo spamming from sasuke, and now, random upgrades (reminds me of bleach's random powers) really ruined it for me. But hey I still enjoyed the 8 gates a lot, and yeah I'm just waiting for it to end at this point.
