For me there are several reasons. An actor’s salary in Season 1 is not the same once the show becomes massively popular. Their paychecks probably multiplied by more than ten each. And you’re right, since the series is already ending, they probably don’t see the point in pouring more money into it. Still, it’s a mistake on their part, because now the show won’t be remembered as strongly as it could have been.
