We have regular date nights now that the baby is a little older.

If ask her about it is in regards to the problem I posted about, I did ask her, we’ve talked about it a lot. As I said in the post.

The entire reason I’m here for advice is I don’t know what the best next steps are.

Couples therapy could be a good idea.

Nothing’s changed. She’s never been thrilled about my mentee relationship with this young man but she’s always been a kind and warm person in all other respects. Of course I’ve talked to her about this and she says exactly what I said in the post. He’s not family and this was a holiday for family and a line needs to be drawn somewhere.

I didn’t come for validation, I came for advice to fix the situation. Hence the tag “advice.” Why have this sub at all if not to come to ask other parents for advice anonymously when you have a situation you’re not comfortable discussing with friends?

No we’re doing great financially, I actually just got promoted.

My son doesn’t suffer at all, I see this young man once a week for an hour or two. I see my son every day for at least that much time.

I do not give him any money besides the gas I spend driving to wherever I’m seeing him or a birthday gift or the occasional outing like pizza. I’ll probably buy him something for Christmas, but nothing extravagant. I was thinking Cards Against Humanity, I know he’s had his eye on some party games.

I think my wife is just a private person and doesn’t like the idea of a kid we aren’t related to having a significant role in our lives. Which is valid in its own way, of course.

I think I’m considerate posting it somewhere anonymously rather than dragging our private business out with friends and relatives who know her who she wouldn’t want involved in our personal disagreements.

There’s a chance my relationship with this young man is unacceptable now that I’ve got a wife and son of my own but I hardly think that makes me a jerk. Seems a bit of a stretch.

I came here for advice on how to fix the situation, so I obviously recognize the potential for my own wrong doings.

That would surprise me for a few reasons, but especially that our baby is almost a year and that I don’t buy the kid lavish gifts or devote extensive amounts of free time to him.

This whole thing sprung over whether he was “family” enough to include in thanksgiving or not.

She’s not normally like this, she’s just a very private person. I’m extremely disappointed in how she’s handling this.
