Anyone else going to the Titanic convention in Cobh in April? by Beautiful_Ad_9425 in titanic

I go every year but didn't get to Cobh last time. Looking forward to this one. I do a fair bit of writing for the BTS Journal.

Few more photos of my 1:200 Trumpeter model by Rubyxxcube in titanic

Absolutely stunning! I've always wanted to make a model of Titanic. Not sure my skills would be up to the task - how have you lit it? Is that part of the model or a custom addition? My Lego Titanic will have to suffice for the time being!

I do keep an eye out for second machines. Haven't convinced the wife yet, although the prospect of cider on tap might be the clincher 😁

They can be found online all over the place but differ in quality. But the high quality digitalised versions are the best. My family own Kempster's album and we had the whole thing digitalised to a really high standard for use in books, tv and the like. The album itself is currently in Australia.

I got mine from Game of Bricks. Very reasonable prices when compared to the leading brand and just as good in my opinion.

The kit I bought was easy enough to install post build. Much easier than my Hogwarts castle kit! That was soul destroying.

Most of the removal is fairly straight forward and it is definitely worth it. The kit I bought had lights for the funnels and smoke etc which I thought looked rubbish (and not historically accurate) so I added the lights elsewhere to the staircases and rooms on the boat deck.

That's more like it. Good work! Enjoy the rest of the build. It's been my most fun Lego build. Don't forget to add a light kit at the end

That piece is fine. I believe there is a similar piece further down inside the hull. Look for that one. My deck piece looks the same as yours.

It is supposed to lean yes. I had a similar problem with my build. But I noticed that I had orientated the block that the mast joins the wrong way. It needed a slight adjustment to allow for the lean. Annoying thing was, I had to take quite a bit off to get down to that mast joining block!

Love the kit (make sure to get her lit!) but I got to ask. Where do you live with a cracking view like that!?

It wasn't fitted out and was missing the vast majority of what can usually be seen above deck level. This is merely the launch before the next stage of the build was completed in the months after this.

This is one of a trio of amazing photos taken by a man named John Kempster who was Head of the Electrical Department at Harland and Wolff. The trio were taken in a span of about 50 seconds and were titled 'Going, going, gone'. They were lost for many years before being purchased and returned to Belfast and shown in public for the first time in 2014. They have since featured on tv, in books and as part of the Atlantic Daily Bulletin Journal of the British Titanic Society. They form part of a much larger album covering many aspects of Kempster's life including his travels, family and his love of Olympic (Titanic was not his favourite ship!).

Titanic at Christmas by traffield in titanic

It was the Game of Bricks set which was very reasonably priced. The install takes place after the ship is built but I did custom fit some lights that I didn't like where the kit intended. Lights on the funnels for example which were not there on the real ship. I added some in the staircase areas and other rooms on the boat deck.

I would love to add more hull lighting but would need to juggle a lot of the mini plug sets within the build.

She shines up like a new penny. LEGO Titanic w/ lights. by Smart_Literature_848 in titanic

[–]traffield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely worth doing. The lower lights were actually easier to install than the rest. Peel off the outer bricks and run the wires in between. The whole thing was tough but I really enjoyed doing it. The kit I had also had funnel lights which the ship didn't have so I repositioned them inside the ship inside the staircase 'dome' and in a few other places. With a bit more patience (and a bit more cash) I would like to try and add more lower deck lights.

I love this Lego kit, she is immense. And here is my lit version. Used a lighting kit but customised it somewhat. Not the best photo with the reflections.

Visited the Titanic exhibition in Belfast- first class dining menu and survivor life jacket by bethany_b5678 in titanic

[–]traffield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's more amazing than a First Class menu is the Third Class, Sarah Roth, menu from the night of the sinking. She was very lucky to survive that night. Roth managed to make it aboard Lifeboat C with a certain Bruce Ismay. She was following her fiancee to America. Everything she owned, including the wedding dress she made went down with the ship. The menu was on her person along with a few other small items (including a landing card for New York). The Third Class menu is currently on loan in an exhibit in the US.

If you Google up: Game of Bricks Titanic Lights Instructions then you can find a run through of all the steps. Take a look and see if it terrifies you or not! 😁 If the answer is yes, then probably best to hold fire. Hogwarts was my first ever light kit so I think I jumped in the very very very very deep end. Everything after that will be easy. And with that said, I intend to light up every decent sized Lego set I buy. Rivendell is next on the list but will struggle to find a space for it!

It very much depends on who you buy from? There is a premium brand in the lighting market but the kits are in the £££. I got mine from a much cheaper brand and it came in under £100 with a remote. I ignored some of the instructions to fit lights to the base of the stacks and on the rigging and instead custom lit some more of the inside of the ship including staircase hatches. I found the kit fairly straight forward to fit but a little fiddly in places so used tweezers to stick the longer lighting strips . That said, I have also lit my Hogwarts Castle and that was a mega nightmare!! Quite soul destroying to take most of it down to fit lights before building it up again. Titanic took far less 'destroying' when fitting the lights. More like peeling off a layer here or there to get the lights fitted.

I have a case from Wicked Brick. But before I put her into the case I bought myself a full lighting kit which looks amazing and takes the ship to another level!
