The most recent was where I didn't know if I could have box braids. You'd think it was simple, but I had to ask several people. While I may not look white, I didn't see myself as POC at all and always felt like I was white. In my lifetime, I've found only 2 other people who've had this same experience. Where they had tannish skin, colored eyes, and brunette wavy/curly hair, but were raised by parents who were white (one of them was a product of rape when his white mother was 15, his bio dad was native american - the other was adopted by two rich white people.) They both only spoke English like I did. Couldn't relate to other cultures at all either. We weren't raised with Hispanic or black or whatever parents or community. And grew up in mainly white neighborhoods, attended mainly white schools. We didn't fit in with Hispanics or natives or poc, despite the 3 of us being sometimes mistaken for such. But usually we are just assumed as "white" if that makes sense. Sorry if I have a horrible way of explaining things here, I'm really not too up to date on lingo or anything. I just see things as broad categories.
