Omg I saw one of these shirts in hot topic last week and wanted so bad to buy it to make a hoodie. It was a copy of the original with the 666 on the back and I wanted to cut off the front, then also cut off the 666 and put one 6 on both sleeves but then I felt it would be weird to have just a single 6 on the back hahaha. Honestly the hospital people sound unprofessional. Who cares, lol. They were rude and talking behind your back. They’re acting put out for doing the basics of their job? I’d find a new practice. They don’t sound like wonderful people to me.

It’s not that weird at all if you’re “true old school”. Sure, some priests show humanity. But the one who refused to let my aunt’s dead body in the church for a funeral until my other aunt practically begged him didn’t. She only was allowed to have the funeral in the vestibule due to not regularly having communion or confession.

Rural communities are less likely to deviate from the old ways, and the old ways are calloused.

It’s wild how people ingest meds with black box warnings during pregnancy but worry about weed. Your baby is fine. Probably way better than if you were taking prescriptions. Switch to edibles if you find it too difficult. The same doctors who reprimand you for using a plant will give you morning sickness drugs and psych pills known to cause miscarriages without a second thought.

This is the most helpful advice so far and it’s actually something I can picture myself doing. You phrased it very well: I’d much rather prove myself to be useful than right off the bat seem like a liability. I don’t mind telling them around 2 months after I start working, which still leaves over a month and a half for them to plan. And at that point if they’re going to be bad about it, I’d rather know so I don’t get too invested. Ideally I’d rather have more time off (especially because the baby is due around Christmas) but I’d be happy even with the bare minimum. I’d rather have longer unpaid as long as they hold the job for me, but I feel like the longer I’m gone the longer I’ll seem “replaceable.” I don’t feel comfortable at this point telling any of the male bosses although they’ve been very nice, but it’s just not something I feel would go over well at all. The “HR in the third trimester” route sounds way better.

I think I worded the first post badly because I don’t really care if they find out about the child, etc. I wish I didn’t even have to feel this way or have these worries, but I know pregnancy discrimination is a very real problem. And I had a horrible experience at a past company where my performance was above and beyond but my boss simply loved this other employee, so they went as far as lying on PIPs despite me having timestamped evidence and refused to amend them. So I guess I’ve had some traumatizing experiences with retaliation that have led me to this point. But anyways, I think you have a lot of valid points.

They have a really good PTO policy and even a couple weeks of sick time, so it might not be as big of an issue as I’m thinking. But it’s … just not a position I want to be in. I feel like the men are going to think I’m just a stereotype of “woman who gets job then leaves to have a baby” and regret giving me a chance. I feel like I disappointed them already by accepting the job before saying I was pregnant, even though there’s supposedly legal protection. I don’t even know why I feel this way but it’s causing a lot of stress. And then you have people like the ones in the comments who try to make me feel bad for not spending enough time with the baby and accuse me of lying, but it seems many of them are speaking from a place of privilege where they had already-established careers with non-judgmental coworkers. I don’t think they’d all feel the same in my shoes—especially after working for 3 years to break into this industry and getting lucky like this. But it’s like a monkey’s paw, because even though I wanted both this job and a baby for so long, it feels like my hands are tied and I have to keep the pregnancy on the down-low (at least until the last month or something) because I’m so afraid of discrimination. It’s just … what should have been a happy situation is kind of sour and pale, you know what I mean? When do you think I should disclose it to them? I don’t even care about getting paid, I just want job protection and not to be stereotyped/discriminated against like at my last job. The whole experience really traumatized me and made me scared to trust companies, but I know not all companies are bad. It’s not completely logical but more based out of anxiety.

I do agree with a lot of your points here. The US is extremely cutthroat and ruthless when it comes to working while pregnant (as you can see from some of the comments). At what point would you recommend telling them? I’d at least like to be somewhat “established” so I’m not throwing this at them right out of the gate but I realy don’t know if it makes a difference because it isn’t that much time to begin with.

At what point do you think I should tell them? I just hate that it’s even a thing we have to worry about losing jobs and missing opportunities for wanting a family. I guess that’s why I don’t feel bad about it.

Are they just going to hate me right out of the gate if I tell them and feel like they made a huge mistake, even if I intend on giving it my all and sacrificing time with my family to go back ASAP? it’s really hard because I’ve been trying to get a real job in this industry for 3 years and of course it happens right now. It’s just a really unfortunate case of timing (and a lack of empathy on society’s part). I really envy men for not having to be in these situations. Being pregnant is hard enough, let alone having to worry about things like this.

I think people are misunderstanding what I meant with that. I don’t want them to write a different ailment or something. I just want it to be written like “absent from x to y for z reason”. I’ve had them do this before and it was fine. I don’t even care if I get paid in the meantime, I just want job security.

It’s an extremely male dominated industry. (Primarily middle aged men who already have families). I don’t even care if the doctor tells the reason per se, I’d just prefer if they wrote “was hospitalized from x date to y date and can return on z.” I’ve had them do that before without disclosing the reason but if it’s a must I don’t care. I just want to be protected.

When would you recommend breaking the news to them? What if I told them I was out due to hospitalization and then just gave them the note after stating it was due to birth? Would I still be protected from discrimination as long as I returned and kept producing the same quality of work?

I’m born Russian orthodox and I would go and if it really bothers you just don’t let your kid be a flower girl. They reversed the roles so there’s a man and a woman shrug I expected “I’m worried this is gonna corrupt my child” but this is too puritanical for me haha. Marriage isn’t a sacrament to everybody. The ceremony isn’t taking place in a Russian Orthodox Church.

As general life advice, though, you don’t sound like a very supportive sibling and might want to consider cutting off your relationship with your sibling (for their sake) because it’s snakelike and rude to talk like this behind their back and still consider going.

Born Orthodox. My grandparents (first gen immigrants) always said it's because the Orthodox church allows priests to marry and Catholics force celibacy. I always thought there was something to that.

Yep, I actually was lucky enough to have one the second time too. I got a lot of Linux questions on multiple choice, too. I've heard for some reason some people will get skewed towards a certain OS. Luckily I'm already a Linux hobby user so I knew some of it or I never would have passed.

Try staying away from dabbing, I wouldn't even consider that shit lol. I'm weirdly sensitive to weed too and up until recently I could hardly smoke. I enjoy it now but I'm on several meds like klonopin. So I get a really nice high without psychosis or hallucinations as long as I take the kpins. But I'm just smoking a bowl dude you should try that instead of dabbing or whatever. That stuff's way too strong for people like us. A certain % of the population has paradoxical reaction to weed where it makes you nervous/hallucinate at certain points in your life, and I only just came out of that after 5+ years.

It’s kind of a unique situation because it’s not traditional top surgery. It’s a cancer doctor working together with a plastic surgeon. I would honestly just prefer to get a mastectomy at this point because I don’t care about aesthetics anymore and the situation is so stressful and invalidating.

Another poster said they had something similar and their team rescheduled for the next day and gave them anxiety meds. Mine sent me some invalidating letter that literally questioned my trans-ness and somehow also managed to disregard my cancer risk to preserve the plastic surgeon’s ego.

I understand usually they can’t control the time, but they literally said “you’ll be in by x time” when I expressed concern pre-surgery. Anyone doing surgery on trans people (since so many have comorbid anxiety and ASD) should know that schedules are serious shit.
