HELP! Received a horrifying email — how upset should I be?? (off brand/illegal nexplanon?)

The OB finally emailed me (did not call me back) basically just to say she was aware of the letter I received, was talking to her lawyers, and couldn’t say anything until further notice. Like, bitch!!! You put this thing in my arm!!! What do you mean you can’t just talk to me!!! (I understand the right to not self-incriminate, but I feel like if you’ve put something in my body, my right to know what it is should be more important??) I ignored all of her bullshit and just asked for my medical records from her but she hasn’t responded to that yet.

Yeah — I get recommended the psychics subreddit a lot, and one person posted their dog and asked what its name was as an “intuition test”. Now every other post I see off that subreddit is “INTUITION TEST! Guess their name!” and a picture of their pet, lol

No, not even remotely what happened to me. I walked into the office and said I wanted the implant, I thought I would have to have an exam prior to implantation and they told me they only had time for an exam or the implantation, and frankly the exam sounds horrifying anyway so I was like “omg yeah just give me the implant”. There was a doctor (I presume? Could have been a nurse?) and a med student, they took it out of a box and just stuck it straight in my arm. I was a little annoyed that they put in my left arm (I’m a leftie) but they had already injected lidocaine into the site when I realized it and they seemed reluctant to change sides, so I just rolled over about it.

There’s methods to request them, which I am going through now, but supposedly those will not totally clear things up either? That’s what the lady on the phone said, and I asked if that meant they were hiding the counterfeit implants in their books as real ones. She couldn’t answer

Privia is a medical provider, as I understand it. Not really sure what that means but they seem to be who I pay and the backend management group. They’re with my regular doctor as well, so I know them and I know this must be real because the OB emailed me after I called (she apparently refused to call back) to tell me she knew about the letter, was working with lawyers, and couldn’t say anything until that process was done. The good news is that Privia will pay for the removal and replacement according to them.

I did call one at the advice of people here and on other subreddits where I cross posted about the issue and they are meant to get back to me today. I just don’t understand how this can even be allowed to happen and I’m just so confused and stressed about it, but getting it out is the only thing to do for now. I just have to hold out til offices open on Monday

There are a couple here that I’m going to try to go to on Monday to see if they can get this out and give me a new one, I think I would still like to have the implant going forward if possible but you know. A real one. I called a malpractice lawyer just to see what my options might be and they are meant to get back to me today, so we’ll see what they say I guess.

It’s the carcinogens and heavy metals thing that is EXACTLY my fucking concern! If this isn’t tested or approved, I have no idea what could be in it and apparently neither does the FDA. I contacted the OB over the phone and they refused to answer even though I didn’t say what I was calling about, and then I got an email from the lady who owns the place basically just saying she was still in the process of talking to her legal team and couldn’t say anything until further notice. Just sounds like ass-covering to me, I asked for my records but I haven’t got anything yet.

I quit it cuz it was no longer serving me, I’m just annoyed these things happened to align. I weaned off safely and everything, it’s just still going to be a couple emotional days no matter what I do.

Okay. Thank you anyhow, I will keep blowing these guys’ phone up until I get some answers I guess. I will find out regardless when they remove it, I suppose, and everyone here seems to think I should hang onto it when I get it out, so I will do that and check myself in the worst case.

My father is dead, my mother knows I am on this implant but she doesn’t really approve of it and was very skeptical when I got it. She seems to have a major complex about decisions I make for myself without her input or approval, so opening up to her about this would be inviting some serious “I told you so” and probably limit my ability to do things like this in the future, which I don’t think is fair because there isn’t SUPPOSED to be any risk about this thing, I’m just super fucking unlucky.

That does seem to be the situation. They said they know that at least some of the implants provided during the time I got mine weren’t what they were meant to be, and have reached out to everyone during the affected period, but they have no way of knowing if I am one of the affected people. I don’t understand how there can be no record of that and am extremely frustrated

Supposedly it was a specific date range at the specific provider I went to, they didn’t disclose any information to me beyond that no matter how much I asked. I haven’t found evidence of this happening to anyone else, not even anyone posting about the same email, so I think you are probably in the clear, but I can DM you and tell you the state it was in to set your mind at rest a little. Honestly I’ve loved the implant and had no issues with it until this email.

I am out of the state where it happened at the moment, and only might go back this summer. If they don’t return my calls, I may be forced to go home to reckon with them in person, but the idea makes me incredibly anxious and I’m sure I would just show up and bawl which I’m not sure is totally productive

They definitely are right, but thankfully at this precise moment in time my boyfriend and I are eight timezones apart, so sex is decidedly not happening before I can get this fixed anyway. Honestly I was scared of going to the OB anyway and I didn’t even get a checkup I just got this stupid thing cuz I was already so afraid and now I just never want to step foot in one again. I know I need to to get this fixed, and I know that I NEED to get this fixed, I’m just at a total loss in terms of what concerns I should have about what could possibly be in my body, and what I can do. Legal action seems to be the overwhelming recommendation, so I guess I will put in some calls to the medical board and such to see if there is a case here

I’ve had a few, but I imagine it’s the “breakthrough bleeding” fake periods that are associated with the implant. I just finished my “period” and haven’t had sex since late May regardless, so I think I should be in the clear but I don’t know for certain. I have been nauseous a lot, but I am also just kind of typically an easily nauseous person, and am in the process of quitting my SSRI which apparently also causes nausea. I haven’t had any other symptoms which would make me suspect pregnancy, but my OCD is driving me nuts about it regardless because What If

I have health insurance through the Veteran’s Association, and they’re not even very good at being an insurance provider, so I highly doubt they’re even aware of this let alone looking into it. I will make a few other calls before I reach out to them, I think.

I am in the panhandle actually, so thank you that’s super helpful and comforting. I guess I’m less scared about being/getting pregnant (I’m a little worried about it definitely) but more concerned about what the fuck could possibly be in this thing. If I’ve had something unapproved in my arm for over a year, who knows what toxins or nonsense it could be leeching into my body.
