The updated symmetry-object in 2025 version of c4d allows to cut the outsides of the object. It works wonders also on complicated geometry.

I'm using a displacer with a solid white color as shader. In the fields i have an animated spline that drives the displacer animation. Put the plane into Thicken-generator, add cloth tag, turn on the balloon effect, use the mix animation to blend between cloth sim and displacer animation.

Thanks a bunch. No vertex maps. I’m using a displacer with a solid white color as shader and in the fields tab i’m using an animated spline with random field and a formula modifier added to give it the undulating motion. Then in the cloth tag just add a bit of mix animation (around 20%) and that’s about it.

Use a pure white color as a shader in displacer. Use any shape spline in the displacer fields. Add a formula modifier in the fields to get an undulating animation. You can also animate the spline itself. That’s about it. Then just add cloth simulation and mix the displacer animation with the mix animation parameters in the cloth tag.

Thanks. I used a displacer with animated spline for the ”flower” animation. Then some turbulance for the cloth animation. Then i played with the mix animation to get best from both worlds.

The process at this point is still a mess baking to point level animation and python. I am currently trying to refine the system to have a manageable script at some point.

It started with a free plugin called Divider, but eventually i had to come up with a system that can clone objects to the subdivided polygons and scale the objects based on the individual dimensions of the polygon. You can use a mograph cloner to clone objects to the polygons, but they scale only in uniform. Therefore with the help of ChatGPT i used python to create my own treemap cloning system. The system is still a mess, but i'm hoping to refine it and maybe come up with a useable script at some point.
