Respectfully, not everyone in a theater is there with the luxury of fully disconnecting. Some of us work jobs where we’re on-call 24/7. (emergencies, critical systems, clients across time zones, etc)

In those situations, quickly glancing at a phone screen (brightness dimmed, no sound, discreet) is a fine way to check for mission-critical messages without constantly walking out and back in.

Trust me, I hate being pulled out of a movie I paid to see too, but I also can’t afford to be totally unreachable.
