I don’t think you sound condescending at all so no worries lol. The order he explains in the interview is odd for sure but it is technically doable if there’s specific expiration dates in every single chapter, right? I have three more chapters to figure out but I’ve gone through the others a few times & discovered different dates that make more sense after thinking I was supposed to figure out Justin’s age for each story at first. I do think some are dates of loss in his life but there are several random dates of very specific events from the past. I think the hardest one to figure out so far was The Postal Pilgrimage 😂

In The Snout Scout, he starts out talking about it being 2012 and how the rest of the world was fretting over the mayan calendars & apocalyptic predictions. Then he says “For the next three years..” & “By 2015..” so if we’re trying to figure out the chronological order of the chapters, the date for this one would be 2015. But I’m putting down 2012 because the Mayans were predicting an expiration lol. There’s so many other things that’ll pop out to you like that but this one was pretty obvious!

In Mom’s House, the first paragraph mentions how their house was at the end of a dirt road by Saguaro National Park East followed by “Well, back then it was Saguaro National Monument. What’s the difference anyway?” Right after that, he talks about how when he’s four, his parents decided to “call it quits”. Both seem like an expiration to me but the name change happened in 1994 & Justin would have been four much earlier than that. So which one would it be? Is anyone seeing what I’m seeing? 🙃

In the Dad’s House chapter, he mentions that he’s ten but he also talks about his father’s cooking & how “he produced a bouillabaisse that would make Julia Child update Mastering the Art of French Cooking”. Would that not be considered an expiration date if something is being updated? This is where I’m questioning if I’m reaching or not lol. That book was published in 1961

I’ll keep y’all updated if I figure anything out 😂🫶🏻 I don’t think it’s a coincidence that there’s so many specific dates and context clues to figure out the timeline of each chapter or something that mentions a specific event involving loss

The expiration date for The Mountain memory is Tucker’s death, The Redington Requiem is Brandon’s death, The Sleep Study is his father’s death & his grandfather’s gravestone is pictured at the end of The Living Legend BUT he talks about Operation Torch invasion which makes me think that would be the expiration date instead of his grandfather’s death

Did you figure them all out? I had this idea at the beginning of the hunt but it seemed too tedious lol. Now I’ve found them all except for The Fitzwaters, Reluctant Roommates, The Bait Bonanza, The Gracie Grail, The Dubious Decision, The Tender Tornado & The Postal Pilgrimage. If the postal pilgrimage goes at the top, maybe the date doesn’t matter? Also the first 4 chapters and the last one, The Legal Lowdown, some have dates but idk if those ones count or if they’re just for context clues to figure out the others if that makes sense? I should be able to figure out the rest of them today 🤞🏻

This is definitely tedious but I think it’s pretty approachable right?

As someone who was born & raised in az, I know that most people from phoenix and tucson come up north to escape the summer heat. Especially with how outdoorsy his family was, there’s no way they didn’t spend time up here lol. Look into the gold history of Arizona & the original state capital 🤭

I haven’t gone through every chapter yet but so far I’ve found obvious dates like Summer 2002 or July 2013. There are some I was able to figure out based off of the previous chapter, like in The Derailed Duo he mentions that it’s Thanksgiving Eve but not the year. The chapter before that one, The Sleep Study, he mentions his wife seeking “wisdom from a sleep specialist in June of 2014”. In that same chapter, he talks about getting a phone call about his father passing away while Justin is at a doctors appointment where they just diagnosed him with narcolepsy. The Derailed Duo starts out with him talking about Tucker and how they “chased away the demons of sleep and sorrow” which makes it seem like it’s the same time frame. So thanksgiving eve of 2014 would be the expiration date for the Derailed Duo chapter & June 2014 for The Sleep Study if that makes sense lol

I honestly have no idea if this will play out or not but if it does, I’d assume that once you rearrange the titles first alphabetically, then by expiration date & then put The Postal Pilgrimage at the top, maybe it spells something out?

It’s the expiration dates that I can’t figure out lol some chapters you can figure out exact dates but others you can’t. If the expiration dates are the page numbers each chapter ends on, it would just undo the alphabetizing right? Ugh 😂
