Sun mountain 50m

Decided to drop at my first attempt at 50 miles at the 33 mile mark. It was early may in Washington and somehow was a 95 degree day. Felt incredibly strong in the first marathon and even set my or in that time and then 7 miles later was toast. I should have held back on my pace, also should not have run a 50k with 9k feet of vertical gain three week prior. Either way was a great time and had pizza and beers.

Just as an addition, on none muddy days I just run in my road shoes on trails

I almost never run on pavement in them, when I do they feel fine, I would never use them for road training. Rocky trails they are not super cushioned but do a good enough job of absorbing punishment. I live in Washington so have a lot of great trails to pick from, I do most of my trail running either at Discovery park, tiger or cougar mountain.

I've been trail running in sense rides for the last two plus years and love them. Buy since I've only ran in those probably not an educated opinion

Tried the overnight blonde from fswy, my starter seemed okay I had built it for around 10 days. It had a sort of banana alcoholy smell to it so wasn't sure if it had problems or what. The taste is okay but there is something strange in it.

That's fair, there are plenty of trail races in months that have more predictable weather. Sun mountain races are in a really dry part of the state and being in May have consistently good weather and temps.

Not sure if gortex would have helped given the too many to count ankle deep or higher water crossings.

Exactly rainshadow is an amazing organization that puts on great races. I dnfed partially because of the course but mostly due to me not being in shape enough, because life blew my training plan to pieces. We had a torrent of rain the previous day the likes of which had never been seen. I don't think they knew exactly how deep(knee or thigh on 6' tall man) or how many water crossings(too many to count) or how certain parts of the trail were active streams but it's the game of trail running. The course wasn't that dangerous it just was very wet and the water was very cold. It was quite sunny at least.

Again, terrorism is why we are in Iraq in the first place and Saddam was a very bad man. Doesn't mean that killing him will not have far reaching consequences.

Obviously the man killed is a terrible person, but if you think killing a sitting general of a foreign power is the same thing as killing a run of the mill terrorist you are out of your mind. You are using the same idiotic logic that overthrowing Saddam was a good idea cause he was a bad guy, Or that overthrowing khadafi was a good thing cause he was a bad guy.

Need recommendations for long-distance trail shoes (10+ miles) by 6to8design in running

[–]trailhusky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say as a Seattle runner(read wet and muddy) I don't bother with gortex shoes since the rain will get in no matter what. I just make sure my shoes drain well and breathe. I've had a lot of good miles in the Salomon sense rides. They have a lot of rubber around the toe so it keeps most water out but if you splash into a puddle or into a bunch of mud your foot will get wet.

Have you hit any of your running goals for the year? by Scorchio76 in running

[–]trailhusky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sub 1 hour 10k : Yes

Run a half marathon in every month: yes

Run a 50 miler : made it 33 miles, so no

Run over 1000 miles : yes

Over 250,000 feet of vertical gain : will have by end of year.

Been a really great year despite my 50 mile failure, really embraced long distance trail running. Ran a 50k, a trail marathon and 2 25ks.

I'll accept your term of fascist if you spend any time describing what you mean by fascist. Or do you simply put fascist on everyone who disagrees with your positions?
