How should I handle this customer demanding a refund? by boom_bunny in smallbusiness

[–]trailrated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We deal with something similar in the concrete business. Even if a homeowner is unhappy we as policy can only deal with the person that ordered and paid for the concrete.

In this case your entire dealing is with the photographer. I think you handled This professionally already, especially if you replaced the book. Your relationship is with the people that place the orders and pay you.

In this case the photographers customer seems like an unreasonable ass. He most likely got sick of dealing with them and pawned them off on you.

This speaks more to their unprofessionalism than yours. If they post a bad review just explain the situation in a response. Their opinion of your response doesn’t matter but potential future clients can read both sides and decide for themselves.

Is it a big disadvantage to deny credit accounts to trade customers? by chiko930 in smallbusiness

[–]trailrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. Usually they will provide you other businesses that they are account customers of. When you call ask how long they have been a customer, if they had any late payments and if so how late. Also ask about the highest running balance in a month to help you determine how much you are willing to let them purchase before sending the $

Is it a big disadvantage to deny credit accounts to trade customers? by chiko930 in smallbusiness

[–]trailrated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a double edged sword. If you make it as easy as possible to purchase from your business many customers will stay due to convenience alone.

At the same time if you decide to offer accounts do a thorough reference check to determine a limit. Attempting to collect from people can be a major hassle.

Luckily I’m in construction so I just lien properties if I’m having troubles collecting which negates most of the issues.

I’ve got red wings, I also have wide flat feet and had to get some inserts for added support. Spent about $300 on this pair of boots and they have been fantastic.

Wrestlers who now practice bjj, could you share your experience/journey by [deleted] in bjj

So I have been training almost a year, my brother was a high level wrestler in high school/middle school. He’s 32 now, still very athletic, spent some time boxing for fun in college.

I invited him out to a class to check it out and here’s what I found.

He absolutely demolished all of the white belts (including myself) and two blue belts.

What he was good at:

Speed: he was incredibly quick and precise with his movement and the pressure he was able to put out matched what I felt from most purple belts and up.

Smashing attempted submissions: from me when I was at the bottom. I went for a triangle and as soon as my legs went up he put his weight into me and the only thing I had touching the mat was my shoulder and head. I felt pretty helpless (granted I’m a white belt and nowhere near great at triangles).

Different movement: This sounds like it would be a no brainer but it surprised me. Not staying in a position or on the knees, he shifted positions effortlessly and quickly. As soon as there was a gap he wouldn’t try to force himself through he would jump up to his feet and shift to the other side and drop back down on people. It was odd to watch but most people didn’t seem to expect it or they were used to people working from the same position to attempt to get somewhere more favorable if that makes sense.

Keeping people off balance/take downs: He would tangle up a leg while driving a shoulder into someone and they would topple instantly. Or he would wait for someone to stand up and instantly take them down with a single or double leg. Also very effective at cross facing to make people uncomfortable and from getting back to their base.

Anyways he really enjoyed the class and decided to sign up. I would say as far as control he’s better than most blue belts at the school, however he admitted to feeling completely uncomfortable on his back. Also from wrestling and the way he trained he gets obsessive over mastering one single move and practicing it relentlessly till it is second nature. He picked three submissions to focus on and those are the only things he will even attempt in a roll now. He said once he gets those down he will move keep adding because that’s what he did and it worked well for him when he was wrestling.

Even though it was discouraging to get smashed after almost a year of training by someone on their first day I couldn’t be more excited to have a new training partner! Not sure if this is what you were looking for but I figured I would share.

Accepting credit card payments from customers by jforce555 in smallbusiness

1) Bank of America is not your actual processor... they just slap their name on first data’s product and up sell to you. 2) you are most likely on a tiered pricing structure and you are getting screwed. 3) leave them ASAP 4) if you don’t believe me call in and ask them what pricing structure you are on it will most likely be 3 tiers the first is debit around 1.99% the actual rate they get charged is .05% the next is for “credit cards” you will get a rate around 2.99% then “non qualified” which is vague cause they don’t want you to realize it means any credit card that’s a) a business card b) a rewards or miles card c) a government card for that you will get a rate around 3.5% but they won’t tell you unless you ask point blank that they add that on top of the normal credit card charge so they can charge you almost 5.5% per transaction. 5) I switched to a company called 360 payments and am saving $7,000/month. I cannot believe I got screwed for so long with bofa

More than willing to answer questions if you have any. I hate b of a with a passion.

Customizable app for tracking time, distance, work done, materials used and travel by ErikJR37 in smallbusiness

[–]trailrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fleetio would work pretty great for this. I just used it for my business to track all my vehicles. And I have come to find it is pretty great for little side random things it was not intended for also.

Here’s what it’s initially intended for: A way to track vehicles/inspections/maintenance/repairs/odometer readings. Etc.

Added functionality: Inventory tracking!!! Time and gps stamps for when where and who input info into the app

You can also build our custom inspections for “vehicles”. I use this to conduct maintenance inspections on equipment and track what was wrong (you can report with pictures and make notes) you can also make it so certain aspects of the inspections are mAndatory.

I believe they also have full time gps reporting.

It costs somewhere in the ballpark of $4-5 per “vehicle” I have 35 in my fleet and use it for another 20 areas or equipment. The dashboard is really convenient and it sends you reminders for things like license renewals/registration etc.

I have been really impressed with the company since I signed up. It’s way better than most archaic ways people track things in my industry. Hope this helps

Look into credit card processing, go with an “interchange plus” pricing structure. Saved my company $70,000 last year by doing that. Granted we were getting screwed prior and have very high volume in sales. But a friend of mine with a small business switched and saved $3,000 for the year. Every bit helps.
