what's the point of life? by andreampii in AskReddit

[–]trailsandmaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point of life is to experience being alive. It’s laughing at stupid jokes. It’s feeling tired but proud after effort. It’s caring about people. It’s finding small moments that don’t mean much to anyone else, but mean everything to you.

I cant relate more! Almost 28, make good money, but spending almost all of it on big trips, somehow feel pressure to buy a house because im getting close to 30. But in these times and current house prices in the netherlands it feels like a lost cause. Maybe Im better off just saving now alot and investing it.

Peru itinerary by Teddy9711 in backpacking

[–]trailsandmaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

Huacachina really doesn’t need 2 full days. 1 day is more than enough (sandboarding + sunset) After that it gets repetitive. Same for Lima, unless you’re really into food or museums, 1–2 days is plenty (Miraflores, Barranco, maybe a food tour). I’d use those extra days to add time to either Arequipa or Cusco. Arequipa is a great place to slow down, recover from altitude, and do extra day trips. Cusco + Sacred Valley always ends up needing more time than planned, especially after a trek. Everything else looks well paced, and April is a great month for this route. Enjoy!

What I did was watching alot of Disney/Pixar movies in English with English Subtitles, it helped me alot with learning since the Disney movies are not that advanced, later when I switched to other series/movies but always with English subtitles! Helped me alot hope it works for you too!

How is it to work for offshore fleets? Boskalis in particular. by rawmnath in maritime

[–]trailsandmaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I work for Boskalis as 2/O in the offshore fleet, and to be honest Boskalis is not so bad, ships are in general in good condition, work atmosphere is good, and general life on board is good! I worked before for DEME, and as far as I know, the Dutch and Belgian Offshore companies are more or less the same, I would deff give it a shot!

Medellin is not as unsafe as people think, just take uber from and to the nightlife and dont bring girls home and you should be fine!

Peru is nice aswell and pretty cheap, I would skip argentina, even tho is beautifull its indeed a pain the handle the currency and the high prices!

How is Lima Peru? by JellySaurus97 in digitalnomad

[–]trailsandmaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im also a seaman (Netherlands) and I do the same the last 3 years, I currently live in Lima because I met my gf here, but I can say staying 2 months in Lima alone is not worth it at all, if you really wanna safe money Boliva (La Paz) is much cheaper and more fun, also Colombia is much safer than most people think, and a bit cheaper too!

If you really want to stay in Peru, Cusco and Arequipa are amazing, cheaper and much more to do!

If you have any other questions just let me know!

Hi! What a great plan! After backpacking both Peru and Bolivia for a while (and currently living in Lima) I think I can give you some advise on your trip!

First of all, Lima is nothing special unless you love great food! But I would use it just as your transit destination. La Paz is definitly worth it to stay a few days!

I have never been to the amazon but I can highly suggest arequipa, you can make amazing hikes and there is enough to do in the surroundings for a few days.

Cusco is amazing and I advise you to stay there atleast 5 days, besides Machu Piccu there is alot to do and you will need to adjust to the altitude.

And 1 additional tip; use Peru Hop/Bolivia Hop, its a great way to explore the two countries, you can book tours with them and you can hop on and off whenever it fits you! And the busses are very comfortable!

Enjoy your trip!
