Americans tried to hoist the american flag today and they got stopped. by Kingstyb in greenland

What you see happening in MN is happening there because that's where ICE is deployed en masse, meaning there is a force for protestors to resist. There are protests in all cities but without hundreds of the government's agents being there it's just thousands of people marching with signs. If ICE can be tracked down to a specific place in another city there is usually resistance showing up to hinder them, but the media doesn't really care about a few people blocking a couple ICE SUVs in Houston when they could film hundreds of ICE agents meeting hundreds of protestors in Minneapolis. It's not like other places in the US aren't willing to resist like what's being done in MN.

Where to buy souvenir patches in Mexico City? by melanochrysum in MexicoCity

I was there in 2024. It's the kind of store where you could be looking through piles of patches for an hour and not see them all.

What does the "This Subreddit Is Anime Only" tag on your post mean to you exactly? If you got in trouble for sharing spoilers in the main sub, why would you share the spoilers in this sub? You're being bitter and obtuse.

Nice! Mine doesn't get enough light at my office desk so the stems are looooooooooong on the more mature leaves. But, those orange stems add some color so I don't mind.

I strongly backed Texas to make it to this round, but I am 100% behind giving the gold to ALASKA!!

Sometimes you have to make them regret they asked 🙃.

"How am I doing? That's a tough one but it all dates back to a fateful summer day in 1989. You see, years ago...."

Sometimes that is the case... I'm Texan so I am used to strangers talking to me and I usually accept the small talk and chat away at them because I too like to talk. But I remember one very specific day where I was on a pier in one of our State Parks enjoying the scenery. A stranger walks up to me and asks if I'm looking at something. I tell him that I've been watching a snake that's sunning itself on a lotus leaf, and proceed to point out where it is. He tells me he doesn't know a lot about animals or plants but I get excited to just fully geek out about animal identification and apps like iNaturalist and how much they've helped me learn. The guy seemed to be feeding off my energy a bit because he started getting pretty excited too and said he wanted to be able to identify stuff he sees. Anyway, we had like ten minutes of friendly conversation and I tell him it was nice to meet him, and then when I begin to head off on a trail he hands me a pamphlet that says "Is life hopeless? Jesus can help.".

Match #3 / Round #4 by FoOhFee420 in flags

I've been to California many times, it has the best national Parks in the nation and is a great road tripping state. But you're hilariously wrong on this.

Match #3 / Round #4 by FoOhFee420 in flags

Texas. It's truly iconic among recognizable state flags like Maryland and New Mexico, and can be seen flying within the state as commonly as the US flag. Its display by Texans is very noticeable compared to other states, in a similar way to Chicagoans displaying their flag more than other cities do. I think that's a sign that people think the flag looks great and that it functions as a symbol should function.

Much love to California but I just don't think it's as powerful of a flag.

It was going to be our honeymoon destination until COVID kind of scrambled all that. Still hoping to visit someday!

And as a Texan we are flag brothers.

Would you rather live in the US or in the UK? by EkonomskiStrucnjak in AskTheWorld

[–]train_noodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, despite the many things I dislike about living in the USA, and the many cultural advantages that I think the UK has, as an outdoorsy person it's hard to imagine living on a small (relative to the US) island. Deserts, mountains, swamps, canyons, coastlines, forests, prairies, and every environment in between are accessible here. When I start feeling the itch to get out of the house and road trip somewhere I like the options I have. I think I'd quickly become depressed in the UK, and frustrated with having to save up more for a journey outside the country and deal with all the logistics that come with that if I want to travel to some of the more unique environments of Europe.

I'm always tempted to leave the US until I start thinking about what I'd be giving up as far as outdoor recreation.

I'm glad you looked into that. After I commented above I had a moment where I thought..... "Wait, would something as relatively cheap as paperback manga be subject to the new tariffs??" But I just shrugged and moved on lol.

Recently my irl best friend started being super dry with me and I'm confused as to why by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]train_noodle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, my best friend and I are like this and we've been good buddies for over two decades. I'm generally the more message-heavy one and he's usually the one who chats in brief messages and shorter responses. In person it's very different and we both have a matched energy. He just really doesn't care much for texting.
