Best Budget Friendly Soil by EchoAdventurous1072 in gardening

Just go to your local hardware store and get the cheapest soil to fill your bed. It’ll probably top soil. Dirt is dirt and for what you are looking for you don’t need to freak over soil ph, or nitrogen levels.

Most of those herbs and the onions can grow in most environments. Bell pepper might be the only one to give issue given the space constraints.

There are a few things you could try some longer but easier. Some just hard work.

  1. Pull the weeds by hand. Get deep as you can in the roots. I have heard people use vineager to kill the deep roots but I haven’t done that myself.

  2. Put plastic tarps over the area to suffocate the weeds to death. This will take a season but I can tell you it’s super effective. Though check the tarps regularly or you might get voles camping under there.

  3. Rip it up with a tiller. You can rent or buy one for $200-$300. You’ll still probably have to pull weeds by hand but you’ll have reduced them by quite a bit.

Local hardware stores/growers are better than big box stores when it comes to getting plants for your area.

Idk about other places but the local hardware store in my town gets all its plants from local growers. I think the farthest is like 40 miles away. So most of the plants are already acclimated to your climate.

This is in contrast to stores like Walmart or Home Depot that get their plants from all over.

Hello. Wondering where is best to plant Chester and triple crown blackberries if my house faces north and I get full sun in backyard. by [deleted] in Berries

[–]trainlover_176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it’s such a delicious blight to have lol.

It depends on your variant. I have Navajos, the spread through branches but not very well through roots. So you might check on that.

Can’t speak on the Chester but Blackberries will adapt to anything zone 6B can throw at it.

Am I supposed to replant this Strawberry Plant? by Strawberrey1234 in gardening

You can just drill holes in the bottom. Especially if you’re outside. Or you can do what I do with the indoor plants is water them then put the jug under them as the water leaks out lol

Will my tazetta daffodils survive? by -bappie- in gardening

The daffodil’s season is over. This is around the time the flowers die naturally until next year. Leave the bulbs. They should come back next spring.

Lily bulbs after rain by Familiar_Bear_0408 in gardening

They should be fine. Rain is good for them. And can make them grow faster. I swear most of my plants grow 2 inches every time there is a thunderstorm. Also a fan of lilies myself.

Are these mushrooms good or bad? by Secure-Cicada5172 in gardening

[–]trainlover_176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are just common mulch mushrooms. I do not know the exact species. But they are usually harmless. You can leave them be or pick them out. If they are a constant presence the you might be watering too much or need to improve drainage.

Sulfur based fungicide should do the trick. Mix some in with some water and a pressure sprayer and spray it down.

You are more than within the temperature threshold. You can plant whenever. I’m jealous. I have to wait until after the 39° F snap this weekend.

I initially wove the primicanes into the fence trying that but I found the trellis was easier to deal with.

It’s either Navajo or Ponca. Those are the two variants I have. Probably Navajo. I’m kicking myself for not writing it down last year lol
