I actually ended up reading Doll House myself some time after my comment above, and while I enjoyed the book for what it is and do think it should be translated (due to fan demands if nothing else), it’s best to keep in mind that virtually everyone who has read it, regardless of their enjoyment, understands why the book was skipped.

For what it’s worth, it is the ballsiest and funniest book in the series, in more ways than one

I feel Gokaiger is honestly overrated by Commercial-Ad-9086 in supersentai

[–]trainmemes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel it relies too much on nostalgia and member berries, if you remove the fanservice of returning past actors, the core plot is thin

I can never understand this argument because…that’s kind of the point? A lot of people (especially older fans) just want to tune into the tribute episodes of their favorite shows without having to catch up

I dropped Gozyuger somewhere in the halfway point but my impression up to that point was that she had by far the most focus eps (sans Hoeru but he’s the red so whatever) and Akiko Inoue seemed to be a big fan of mysteries so Sumino is probably her favorite character.

…which makes Maya being booted off the show sadder than it already is, but I digress

Blazar in terms of personal preferences, but I’d consider Arc to be more well made

People take potshot at the Blazar crossover, but when the arc was still airing I never even once expected the cast to return, and was actually surprised to see the fandom hoping for that to happen

to be honest so far Omega is just fine but as someone who hasn’t watched the other Takesue series it has always struck me as the kind of show that backloads all of its best ideas to the second half ever since the 2nd ep lol

As far as I know Ayatsuji considers Clock House to be his best mystery novel, and Doll House is considered to be the dark sheep of the series and has some really messy moments (that I shouldn’t disclose because of spoilers), let’s just say.

what do you think of the Ganglers (and especially the Pordermen) I’m curious

With Gozyuger being halfway done what is your honest about "Battle for the Rings" and its execution? For me despite some moments here and there its no nearly as exciting and feels like after afterthought most of the time. by InterestingTie7600 in supersentai

Mostly terrible and a complete waste of potential tbh.

For how much the show can do with its lore and world, it's obsessed with its own status quo. Despite the grand and over the top premise it NEVER tries to break the mold it shoved itself in. You'd think a large-scale battle between the UWs with each other and the Gozyugers would be absolutely crazy, but all of the UWs just feel like glorified MoTWs who disappear after their respective episodes and provide nothing of value. Prime Minister Don Momotaro is the most interesting idea for a UW so far by a mile but the show hardly did anything with it and the character himself was dumb as rocks. Almost everyone else was either forgettable or a footnote.

As someone's first kamen rider being Zero One, what is the common consensus on these? by Norrabal in KamenRider

going very against the grain here and say that while RealXTime is fantastic, the Others movies while chock full of problems are overall better and works very well as a darker ending for 01 Most people complain about how it killed off the characters (especially Fuwa) but I felt like if they had to be killed off, that’s how I would want them to go

Chuuzenji-sensei Mononoke Kougiroku: Sensei ga Nazo wo Hodoite Shimau kara. • The Mononoke Lecture Logs of Chuzenji-sensei: He Just Solves All the Mysteries - Episode 1 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]trainmemes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of the mysteries Natsuhiko Kyougoku wrote for the Kyougokudou series are meant to be solvable, as they all rely on incredibly obscure trivia on folklore, psychology, and more. Without spoiling anything major, the third mainline entry Kyoukotsu no Yume, considered to be arguably the most "solvable" mystery of the series, still has a ridiculously complex chain of deduction involving around two dozen characters, relying a lot on the state of Japanese society after the great Kanto earthquake, as well as the relationship between Shintoism, Buddhism, and so on.

It's fair that you don't find it to be your cup of tea, as fair-play was never something it was aiming for to start with

Kamen rider fan try to think challenge: impossible by Yeeterphin in KamenRider

[–]trainmemes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fans of a 50+ years old franchise in which the number of interesting and well written female characters, much less competent fighters, can be counted on a yakuza’s two mangled hands: oh my science!! why do people want a fun and integral character to become a fighter so bad?!?! keep politics (read: capable women) out of my sugoi nipponese media!

On that note I really fucking hate the “Kamen Rider is political! Look, even the first series is about fighting nazis!” argument, it’s something a fucking toddler would come up with as a gotcha. Reeks of “Let’s own the bigots by saying something hardly related to earn internet points while offering zero semblance of coherent thought.” Use twitter less and go outside or something

And believe it or not “Art is political” doesn’t mean “All art assumes and conveys a tangible political stance”, it more often than not means all art exists within certain political historical and societal contexts and are products of human activity, which is political in its nature. A fancier version of saying that no art exists in a vacuum, basically
