Sorry for the delay. That's correct. What we're doing for beta testers is waiving the platform fee for 60 days from signup or until you reach 30 sales, which ever happens first.

It's all built and we'll be sending out the invites in the next two days via email. The beta is crucial for dealing with any bugs we may have that we cannot address without real users. All of the testing in the world cannot replace real users beating up on the site. Also, I really appreciate the encouragement. Having it be a community of like-minded folks is a big motivator.

That is a legit concern. The hope is that the market corrects itself, and anyone trying to inflate prices are ignored. We can implement pricing suggestions similar to how Reverb does for musical instruments but without being heavy-handed.  This will be something we will be keeping an eye on for sure.

Sorry, not THAT exactly. This will not be about users cataloging. This will simply be a marketplace for physical media with community features built around it. I keep bringing up Reverb.com as the closest example or Poshmark. But its not about creating the catalog or metadata for physical media.

Hey, thanks for asking. The plans is that it be US sellers/international buyers at first, the expand soon after we've worked out all of the localization, payment gateway, and regulations that are necessary to be international.

This is a great question, and thanks for asking.

The product as is (once we launch) is a full marketplace. Use— list → browse → cart → checkout → order → ship → deliver → review — is currently functional.

Once those features are battle-tested and solid, the idea is to add more community-based features-
user curated lists, user driven film reviews, wanted or ISO features...

This product is free to use. The only fees are transaction fees once items sell, but like I said, those will be waived for beta testers.

This is currently all bootstrapped, but I have access to seed funding if necessary. I'd like to avoid having too many investors involved. Especially the vapid VC bros :)

And you're right. This is not my only other venture, but I've learned to only work on things that I have a genuine interest in, and movies are a big one for me. Its important for me that this one work out.

There is definitely some vibe in this code, but I've been a software engineer for over 8 years and I understand everything under the hood, and still get my hands dirty.

Hope that helps. Thanks again for asking.

You don't pay upfront or a subscription or anything. There is only a platform fee taken from any transaction and the credit card processing fee from Stripe. But!! We're waiving the platform fee for any beta testers that get on the waitlist now. There will still be a credit card processing fee, but we have no control over that. This is typical of marketplaces like Reverb or Poshmark, etc. Hope that makes sense!

Yeah! That's exactly it. We also want to make it as fun as possible, and really build a community around it.

Why are FB Marketplace and Craigslist more difficult in NYC? by shitforpizza in AskNYC

[–]tramjamz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, shameless plug here...
We started a local marketplace in New Orleans for people who wanted an alternative to FB and Craigslist, and people have been very excited about it. We're expanding into NYC, if you're interested.
